Status : Offline | Eeerk, enemies leveling with the player? *acquires a look of distaste* That's almost enough, I think, to prompt some second thoughts about this game... :/
I believe that I want to see earlier enemies becoming relatively weaker. I want to be able to easily trounce that foe who so easily bested me previously. If I do more side-quests than expected, then I want to be relatively more powerful - and in a game that, I imagine, presents levelling as an increase in direct power, I don't want that to refer only to increased tactical opportunities, I feel. :/
MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
*ahem*
Sorry.

Well - it's too late for me to pull out of this one now... I went and paid for my copy yesterday - they don't do refunds...
Posted by: XerNosam Posted on: Yesterday at 3:16pm I figured I'd start a new, fresh thread for all things Dragon Age: Origins, seeing as it's coming TOMORROW! Hooray!
Boo! I'm envious.. [img]http://www.mindspring.com/~markparrish/Mumbles.gif[/img] Mine is only arriving on Friday. (I'm hoping tho that it will come in early, and that if I call them Thursday evening, they'll say I can collect : )

Oh, I'll probably still get it - but that it a fairly large negative point to my mind, I think, and has to some degree spoiled my anticipation of the game.
I do hope that the story is what you say it is... <_<
Of course, trust you, Evil Ines, to defend a game with levelling enemies! ;P

I've read both Dragon Age books, so if the story in the game is anywhere close to as engaging as the books were, it'll be phenomenal!

Now my game's arrival seems to have been delayed until Monday, btw... [smiley=cry.gif]

Nah, sorry - I didn't do that on purpose -it was just the first game that popped into my mind, because although i had found combat pretty easy enough in the introductory chapter, by the time I was in my third and fourth areas in the game, I was really finding myself having to redo some battles over and over again because they were so hard - in some of them all of my party members would die, every time.
Since I don't enjoy playing against such hard-to-beat odds, I had actually searched around for a difficulty setting, and found out that there isn't one. I usually play my first playthrough of an RPG on the default setting, and see how it goes - if too hard, I'd set it easier, and less often, higher if applicable.
I'm not shy to admit that with Drakensang, I would definitely have set it to "Easy" if I could have!

Yeah, me too! :'( ...and frustrated, too! [smiley=hair_pull.gif] I'm going to try and make a plan to see if I cannot cancel with the place who is only getting the game on Monday, so I can try to get it from a place that already has it...

Status : Offline | I've been playing the digital deluxe version (only version that comes with Wardens keep, which will cost 7 extra for anyone who wants it from the other versions of the game) and so far I'm loving it.
I'm playing through as a Human warrior. My only complaint is the lack of origin story for a Human. There is only one story for humans (human noble) unless you pick a mage. I would have much rather had my characters backround be a bit more humble rather then what you get, however the story is still great and has a lot of personality.
The dialogue and VO is great so far, it does seem to be a small step back from the likes of MAss Effect though since your character has no voice and you simply go by the text though.
I have found myself actually smiling and laughing at a few things, the writing so far has been great.
I'm playing on the Normal difficulty but I watched a preview before it came out and the guy was playing on normal and almost died like 3 times in the beginning mission so I knew it'd be good on normal instead. There's still things likle Friendly fire (it's only off for Easy difficulty) only it doesn't do 100% dmg to your allies rather a little reduced but the game is a challenge still.
Combat is fun if you are into the BG and more tactical approach in other Bioware games like KOTOR, etc. I have found t his being vital to winning many fights to pause (as your party members seem a little slow compared to the one you're controlling, they lag behind a bit, maybe a setting for that I don't know about). Each class has a great set of abilities. I almost went a rogue for the simply fact that they have a kick to the groin area .
Speaking of the more recent violence and such that has came up on this forum recently the game is actually quite bloody. When in combat you land good hits there's blood clouds from the strike. Also after reach battle your characters will have blood splattered on their clothing and bodies. However if you don't want it on you (it stays for a little bit, so you'll see it in cutscenes if they are shortly after a fight) you can get it off by talking to your dog and asking him to "take care of the mess," .
Atmosphere wise it's great, the area after the origin stories is set against some ruins and you can see far off in the horiozion against mountaintops and forest below. Graphics wise it's so so, it looks a little outdated compared to newer games, mainly because of hte lack of true shadows. You will walk under a dark area/shadow but it doesn't show ony our party members or anything. Performance wise it runs fine for me on the highest settings (E8400, 9800gx2, 2gb ram).
I've yet to really dig into the game (only have one party member, my dog) but I can already tell it will be an epic game that I'll be investing a good 80+ hours into the same as fallout and other good rpgs.

(the dog licking off the blood and gore), sounds a bit sick to me... [smiley=eww.gif]
Anyway, my curious nature will not be put off by anything, and I'm still rearing to get hold of this ASAP...
Thanks for the input, Stiler!

Well it doesn't actually show him doing it, you just say it then the game does a quick fade out and in and it's gone.

The blood does sound to me to be a little more than I'd prefer, but not terrible enough to put me off, I don't believe.

Status : Offline | As for the blood staying on you, after a fight, there should be an option in the game's controls? to turn this feature OFF. (or you could just Dog to do it - by licking the blood off you, I mean ).
If you any dlc items from pre-ordering etc. please b aware of that when you paly a Dwarf Noble, something will happen to this dlc. (You can't access it) It's a small comfort that this only happens on the PC, though.
Spoiler AlertThe reason is that as Dwarf Noble, you'll loose your gear, at a certain point during the origin.
There's a thread at the Bioware DA forums that talks about this.
http://daforums.bioware.com/forums/v…orum=145&sp=30
You'll need to find the entry (post) from OriginalBaern to learn how to stip this from occuring.
Nathan Frederick, a dev. from Bioware, has confirmed this problem. And they're looking it (to fx it, I hope?)
Sydney Tang, another dev. from Bioware, wrote:
I am told that this bug was fixed for the console versions of the DLC items. The issue was found and fixed while testing the console port of the DLC, but the Windows DLC had been finalized by then.
I just thought I let you know. Just in case you were wondering where all you (paid) dlc items went, playing a Dwarf Noble.
---
edit:
From varius posts at both the Bioware social site and the Bioware DA forums, I get the impression that certain quests are no longer available to you, if you say are a warrior and are asked to do a specifik quest for another class, say a mage. Even when you get the mage, this questline will be closed off for you. Rumours have it, that the same happens when you fail a persuasion check?
