I loved Risen, just wrapped up the game about a month ago. I've been playing DAO since then. But the ending was absolutely horrible because you went from playing a great RPG game to some kind of FPS/plat former. I was totally unprepared for the twitchy game play. So for me, the end game knock the game rating down from an A to a B. I could recommend the game to anyone who likes RPGs but be prepared for a horrid ending.

Status : Offline | May I just mention that I loved Risen. If you liked any of the Gothic games, go for it.
Arcania is very pretty, but I'm finding it unplayable due to the choppy framerates it's giving me. Risen, on the other hand, had lovely graphics and a cool gameworld.
Yes alright the ending was a bit of a bummer, but I'd even forgotten about that because the rest of the game makes up for it.

Status : Offline | Just wrapped up Arcania about a week ago. Nice RPG but its "NO" Gothic (although it is technically Gothic 4). Unlike Traveller, I had no technical problems with Arcania at all. And Kudos to them for having the absolute best sunrise and sunset in gaming to date.
Still, this thread is about Risen and you should definitely pick it up, especially since it is at a reduced rate and the year old (?) game might run pretty well on your rig. But be prepared for a horrid game end.

Hehe - ok, see you found this thread. Post more questions once read.
Btw, looks like a spot of spam in the poster above me's post , huh?  I mean the post with the shoes link in the sig.)

Ah well, - I'll just enjoy the ride for a change...
..and btw, sort of ignore my early post quoted above. Even though slightly easier than the earlier Gothic games, Risen is still pretty hard regarding combat. You still have to run away from beasties at the beginning. I think I did that post while I was still busy with the tutorial area - me and my big mouth...
PS. see P.5 of this thread for a mini-review of the game.
