Risen is defnitely already out, at least here in the states. It's available on Steam as well as Direct2drive (cheaper then steam).
lol yeah... we were talking about Venetica

Hee hee, sorry, Thaumaturge, but it does help to just quickly scan a thread to see the progression of the posts, especially on JA, which is notorious for wandering off-topic.
Here is your clue:

Venetica seems to have a strong story, and you get to play a girl in it.
..and you can see it a few posts up, there >>> http://justadventure.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1254324774/18#18 :

Oh, and for what it's worth, Thaumaturge, I had saved myself 15% off the cover price of the game by pre-ordering it online. 8-)
Heheh, with me, it's either that, or if I'm not sure of the game, wait for the price to go down again. I think I was pretty sure about this one though, because German gamers were apparently giving out good reports, and the websites that feature RPG's were all praising it, and likening it to the early Gothics, so... that one was a pretty cut and dried decision for me.

The monsters and beasts make for pretty hard combat though...- I take it back if I said this game is easy, - I suppose the beginning was just a sort of a tutorial, you know...

I did see the mention of Venetica, but somehow managed to not connect the two. :/
As to how you were playing it, I think that I recall thinking about that, and may have considered the demo as being a possible solution.
Thank you for clearing that up.
Heh, it's probably too late for me to get much off via pre-ordering, since it apparently is out, so should I take it that you were just trying to rub it in? ;P
As for my getting the game at all, I think that I'm still going to wait until I've played the demo; your recommendations are encouraging, but not having played Gothic at all, I don't think, I'm inclined to be cautious.
MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
*ahem*
Sorry.

Aaaw, no not in a nasty way, in any case. I was more patting myself on the back after I had seen current prices for the game.
As for whether you would like it, I do recall that the Gothic games had the RPG community reasonably divided. If you enjoyed Morrowind, though, chances are that you'd enjoy Gothic too, though there is less scope for character customisation in the Gothics - you have one human male with basic stats and one "look" to start off with; a bit like The Witcher in that sense.
There have been TES lovers who disliked Gothic for the latter reason.

Heh, sorry, I think that that was my deeply-tired attempt at playful humour. I should perhaps have remembered that movement - both physical and mental - becomes more clumsy when so tired. ^^;
If you enjoyed Morrowind, though ... Morrowind, of course, is itself waiting to be played by me (in this case as a result of my not yet having the game)... ^^;

I've never played the Gothic games, sadly, and probably never will... but I'm excited to play Risen. Not being able to customize the main character, while cool, isn't a necessity for me, or a reason not to play it.
I'm a sucker for open-world, sandbox games - mix that with an RPG and I'm all over it.
Playing: Skyrim: Dragonborn/Dawnguard; Torchlight 2; To The Moon; Far Cry 3
Finished: HomeFront; Far Cry 3; Dishonored
Always Playing: Half Life 2
Looking Forward To: BioShock: Infinite
Reading: BioShock: Rapture; SW: Revan

Hey Arkadia, I aplogize for not replying, I'm visiting a sleepy seaside village far away from internet cafe's, so am mostly without a connection. Will be back by the weekend, and will in the meantime ponder the question.
IIRC, you did enjoy Morrowind, didn't you?

I've been wondering where you were. Glad it's something lovely and not something my paranoid mind entertains when people whose company I enjoy mysteriously disappear for a period of time :-* Silly mind. Where are you exactly? I hope we'll get pictures
I absolutely loved Morrowind Much moreso than Oblivion, for similar reasons I think you've voiced before.

Grr, I cannot believe what you said about Risen being banned, Arkadia.... What on earth would the reason be? I haven't encountered anything yet that would even put the game in the "mature" category, let alone having it banned...

ah! I thought your absence was due to Risen
..at this stage I'm really starting to wish it was the reason, as I am here without even my laptop, which (in)conveniently broke a few days before I left. :'(
I'm starting to go through PC withdrawal....

I do hope that you're enjoying your trip anyway, more so than not, at least. ^_^
On the subject of Australia and games, I think that it might be worth referring here to Yahtzee's fairly recent writings on the Left 4 Dead ban that is apparently also in effect there. As he describes it, the situation there doesn't leave me without concern. Perhaps he over-inflates it, but nevertheless, the regulatory body there does seem to me to be somewhat... controlling, perhaps.
Of course, if you follow that link, be aware that it is Yahtzee writing, and so be prepared for potential profanity and offence.
MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Our classification laws here are extremely outdated, hypocritical and controlling. I recently wrote a term paper on the subject, so my blood is still boiling about it. We've had some of the biggest games banned (the bans often get removed), such as Fallout 3, GTA IV, Left 4 Dead 2 (as Thaumaturge mentioned), F.E.A.R. 2, Silent Hill: Homecoming and others as well. The problem is that Australia has no 'adult' rating for games, if a game isn't suitable for someone under the age of 18 years, then it isn't allowed to be retailed.
Recently our government's Attorneys-General held a meeting to review our video game classification guidelines, and support for an adult rating was unanimous for all except one person - unfortunately, if one person disagrees he has the ability to stop the change from happening. This man's name is Michael Atkinson and he is depised by Australian gamers, he is basically the Jack Thompson of Aus. I think our government system is broken.

It is easy to imply such things without using the full abilities of modern computers to push ones nose into it, and i certainly think, after many years of careful study and research that violence is indeed coming to kids thru games and influencing them to take life and bullying, harm and hurt far far too lightly. I fear that we are sowing the seeds of our own destruction, like the monsters from the ID . so i say , good for him that one brave man in Australia who stands up for decnecy and for the good. We have so many ways to enjoy our games without such need for speed, violence and harming others. Sadly, i fear, my words will fall on deaf ears for most of us are hardened and habituated to violence far to early and far too deeply. nuff said. but it needed to be said.

It can be good or bad that is, and yes, I have seen 10 years old carrying around GTA IV but then again, at that age I used to play GTA I and II and to this day I haven't ran over anyone...

May I ask what study and research have led you to believe this? I've looked for unbiased reports before but haven't found anything that would conclusively lead me to believe that violence in video games affects one psychologically (any moreso than violent movies, anyway).
While I agree that violence is too needlessly gratuitous and widespread in our entertainment media than is neccessary, I don't think it should be up to one man to decide what's best for others, especially when many disagree with his point of view. Where would one draw the line? Many people are utterly convicted about their religion, but just because they believe you shouldn't have sex before marriage it doesn't mean they should be given a pat on the back for abusing their power when their opinion is in the minority. Censorship is abhorred because for each person who will take a step, there is one who will take a mile.
