I'm creating an adventure game using the excellent AGS engine. It will remind you of classic point & click titles that were published in the late eighties by Sierra and LucasArts. The first two chapters are ready and I would appreciate it if you downloaded the demo and tried it. I think it's not too bad if you're not too picky on the graphics department! The interface in this demo is kind of dodgy and I have improved it a great deal since then, but I'm afraid the later versions are for beta testers only and that's the only one I can show you without spoiling too much.

I can promise that this game will be finished some day. I'd love to hear your suggestions when you complete the demo, all opinions are welcome, positive or negative.
Sound cards are the source of most bugs of the game, so before telling me that it doesn't run or that the sound quality is bad, try experimenting with the Setup file first. Speaking of Setup, don't forget to run it first in order to change the game's resolution to 640x400! Please read the ReamMe.txt as well before beginning.
You can find it at my homepage:

Signing the guestbook would also be nice.

looks great man! before i found this site i was adventure starved. i had no friends who likes the genre and lived in a place where adventure games are hard to get hold of. THANK YOU SO MUCH! to the creators of this site the members, and this bloke here who is making his own adventure games! this site is the best.

You finished it in two hours??? I'm impressed.. I mean the demo is not difficult but you have no idea how many people get stuck. Did you figure out the hidden message on the computer screen? And if yes, did you manage to do as it said? Although there are no dead ends in the game, moving on without soliving all the puzzles is possible.
Gimme more please.. what else did you like? What didn't you?
I'm halfway to completion and I'm quite satisfied by what I've done so far. I can't tell you the number of chapters yet as I'm not sure myself.

"You finished it in two hours I'm impressed.. I mean the demo is not difficult but you have no idea how many people get stuck."
*psybafires head gets bigger*

i got stuck for a few mins on the password question. i was trying the release date on the film poster and the road they live on.

Did you figure out the hidden message on the computer screen?

nope what was it?

do you mean on the word document? yeah i got that straight away. i was tying to disconnect the curtan to get it but i found out i didnt need it

And if yes, did you manage to do as it said? Although there are no dead ends in the game, moving on without soliving all the puzzles is possible.

i thought it was slightly easy, but thats understandable seeing as it was right at the begining of the game.

but one thing you do have to look at tho is making all the possible exits from a room clearly visable with a symbol or something.. i didnt have much of a problem with it but i did wounder what i missed out on

"I'm halfway to completion and I'm quite satisfied by what I've done so far. I can't tell you the number of chapters yet as I'm not sure myself."

is the whole chapter thing a good idea? i think it is but you might want to think about what others will say about it.

overall i am really impressed i found it really funny. i think you should make a website just for the game, and get a decent domain name.. freeservers.com has som epretty good ones and they are free.

i cant wait to play the whole thing!...

You'll be glad to know that in newer versions the Walk icon changes to an 'Exit' sign when placed above an exit. It was a pain in the butt to make it happen but everybody asked for it so I sat down and wrote the code.
As for the beginning being easy, I like games that don't get too hard very soon before you get the chance to get accustomed to the general idea. Don't worry, you'll be begging for hint later on.

As for an Other Worlds web page, I don't know if it's worth the trouble I mean how many people are going to play it? For instance, this is an adventure forum and yet you are the only one who tried it.
I'll pm you about the puzzle you missed.

So does that make me the second?

The game is kinda neat. Reminds me so much of all the classics... of course it took me only about one hour to finish. The only thing I couldn't figure out pretty much right away was getting into the mansion - I simply overlooked the fact that the gate bars were not uniformly spaced.

I must have overlooked the secret message on the computer too. But since sis said something about getting into the computer and certain time... well, there was this stopped clock on the wall... so that was the first password I tried after '1234'. I was honestly surprised that it worked

So when's the next chapter coming out?
I forgot my sig.

Thanks Michael. OW won't be released in chapters, the next public version will be the full game. In the meantime, feel free to propose as many improvements/suggestions as you like.

'Not uniformly spaced'... what a nice quote! Mind if I use it in the game?  :

I managed to play the game until the second chapter - then I just had to use ctrl+alt+del to get back to Win, because there was actually no way in getting ahead of this "Chapter Two" screen. So is there a special combination to be pressed in order to continue the game? I have no idea how I got ahead of the first chapter screen, but when I restarted the game, then I couldn't get ahead of it anymore too.

As for being stuck - the only thing this far was finding a room with a computer

It took me many exploring to actually realise that there's an exit at the bottom of the screen inside the house. So putting those "exit" signs to all the available doors/exits in the full version of the game, is really a good thing.

I really enjoyed playing this game - and I'm usually happier with 1st person games.  I think I got stuck more than others, because I couldn't leave the house in the beginning.  I've got the car keys, but everytime I try to use the car, the message says I don't need to.   I'll keep exploring the house further.

I loved it when you pet the cat and he purrs, and then after you feed the cat and you go to pet it, he sounds angry, and the message said never mess with an eating cat.    This cracked me up.

Keep up the good work ! !

Evil, which version did you download? If you got the DOS version try the Windows version instead. Which sound card do you have?
And Milly is a she, thank you.

I only downloaded the Windows version.
Actually I already solved my problem - I just had to wait until that "Chapter" screen disappears by itself. So I was curious about it and tried it again later and clicked both mouse buttons, pressed Esc, Enter etc. and then I couldn't get ahead with the game. I dunno if it's a bug or if it's just a conflict with my computer/configuration, but you should check it out.

Anyway, I managed to complete the demo. It was really easy, IMO, but as you said that it gets harder later on - then it's ok.

One question though - what was the purpose of that bum? You said before that it's impossible to get ahead without solving all the puzzles, but there's a way to get into the mansion without giving the money to the bum. So if he's help is needed afterwards but I haven't given him the money, will I get stuck?

No you will never get stuck, there are no dead ends in my game. However, the more puzzles you neglect to solve as you go along, the more difficult alternative solutions you will have to find. It's my way of rewarding the careful player.

Hi, I really enjoyed playing your game!!! I chose the windows version and played in a PIII 1ghz. I had no problems installing but a few crashes during playing (specially in the close-up of the hood). The games runs smooth and loading times are reasonable. It took me about an hour and a half to reach the end. The story is quite good, but I think that the start is a bit rushed. I liked the style of the texts. They are clear and do not involve use of jargon (Is my opinion that an amateur developer should consider that his/her game can played everywhere, for example I am from Argentina, and the type of English must recognized this issue). The conversation at the end is really hilarious!!. I hope the rest of the game will maintain this type of humour!!. When considering the puzzles, they are quite easy, but I think they will became harder as the games progresses.
I would suggest changing the design logos for the "load", "save", etc, that appear in the top bar. Another suggestion is to include a sign to indicate where you can live the rooms (I think I have read in another post you have already made this change, Could it be possible?).
In summary, your game is a very good one, quite above the average for the ones made with AGS (and I have played a lot of them). I look ahead expectantly to the final version!!!!

That's because the introduction is missing! I will add one later.

I'm doing the best I can.

Indeed it gets harder, I didn't want to discourage inexperienced players with early tough puzzles. The next chapter is quite challenging.

That's right, the whole pop-up menu was redesigned and it's much clearer now, and there's a sign for every exit when you move the cursor on it.

I've just finished your game, the first I've played that used AGS, and I was impressed. The Chapter 2 conversation had me laughing the whole time, and I liked the little touches you added: The extra responses when I used items in odd places, the various comments about your house, and how could I not like a game has references to 7th Guest, Monkey Island and Spaceballs! The only thing that disappointed me about the game is that it ended so soon, but I'm glad to hear you're working on finishing it up! Keep up the good work! (Now, I just have to go back and figure out what that hidden computer message meant before the next release...)

I've finished  the demo yesterday...It was GREATT!!
I did it in 45 min
......i got stuck a little at the computer password fase and at the mansion gate .
I was surprised to find out that the game also works in Windows Xp (Professional)..
The graphiks aren't so bad..the caracters look like Leisure suit Larry 3 caracters...but the bakground is okay.
The conversation in the beggining of Chapter II was hillarious...(really liked that code thing 1-2-3-4-5-6)
I dunno if this is a flaw or my computer is banged up...but when I got at the mansion...I couldn't return to the house...and whazzup with that bum??
Still the game was great...keep up the good work and gimme a mesage when the full version is finished(at least an updated version)
P.S.  ...Nice car...
...oh..I really ,really hate Myst (I really enjoyed that crack about it)

Don't ask me for a hand !!

Unfortunately, it doesn't anymore.
For some reason, I've been unable to create Windows executables after some point at the game, the game crashes on every machine. I'm afraid the full version will be DOS only.

It's neither. You're not supposed to return.
