Just for the record, your little anecdote was the first thing I read yesterday AM and it really made me chuckle and certainly nothing that you should ever have need to be apologetic for. Perhap it was just some key phrases used that really painted the picture. Please, no need for all those blushes and continue on keeping this forum an interesting and enlightening experience. Ahem.

| Deleted User | Why Caroline, whatever led you to believe that I would have been a participant in such activities back then in my youthfull college age years, with leftover beers? : Gosh, it's hard to believe that it's been almost twenty-five years since I was in on that scene. For the purpose of clarification though, please allow me the liberty to describe precisely what I meant by a left over beer.
Leftover beers: Any amount remaining of cheap keg beer dispensed in a 12 oz. plastic cup. Back then for college freshmen, beer was priced accordingly with our limited budgets, usually around five beers for a dollar.  exception, since it was an engineering school, the few female's beers were always free) Even with this discount it wasn't unusual to abandon a half filled warm beer in exchange for a fresh cold one. Thus the presence of many leftover beers. And just to sweeten the pot, quite a few of the leftover beers had been used as.......To Be Cont :

I don't think university students have as much fun now as they did back in the days of free education - 60s, 70s & 80s. For starters, at my uni, no one lives on campus so everyone has to pay real rents which they need to earn (or have rich parents). It's rare for uni students to go interstate to study due to these costs; cheaper to live at home with the old folks.
There are almost no organised social events now that compulsory student union membership has been abolished. Most of my younger classmates have part-time jobs and no free time at all. Certainly they don't talk about losing their weekends getting smashed but rather about fitting their jobs around class times. Perhaps they'll make up for it in their 20s?

Well, yes, we've had a bit of a Swine flu epidemic rush through, but taking into account that we've had university students in their late teens and early twenties dying of it, I don't think I did too badly. I was only nauseous for one day, had bad stomach cramps on and off for two or three days, and had about 4 days downtime. I'm not even coughing badly from it.

| Deleted User | Thanks, Caroline. I admit that I been feeling a bit depressed lately, so since i was feeling pretty grumpy this morning after a session at the dentist, i decided to treat myself with a bit of retail therapy at a 2nd-hand bookstore on the way from the dentist.
Guess what I found there? ...a great big Myst strategy guide! [smiley=happy.gif] 8-)
And, in my search for the elusive John Brunner's Traveler in black, a few horror, fantasy and SF anthologies, as well as a dictionary of Star Trek and an illustrated guide of Star Trek and Star Wars (which, once discovered, was immediately annexed by a certain little boy that I know). I also found an anthology of Sherlock Holmes stories that I didn't have before: - so now I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself. 8-)
(Of course, most of these books will just sit on the shelf and look pretty for a long time, but I'll at least read some of it.) :
So, now armed with these Star Trek tomes, you might find me posting a few tidbits... -like, did you know that Paramount studios actually sued the publishers of a parody novel titled "Captain Smirk"? Couldn't have found a better name for William Shatner myself... /me ducks from the rotten tomatoes being thrown by JKing, in defense of his hero....
Um, Caroline, I hope you are/were not also a Shatner fan... *decides to wait for the reply before posting more "Smirky" comments..*

Kirk was handsome but cheap - any semi-naked woman could have him. No, I wanted the difficult prize - the one all the nerdy girls were convinced they could melt.... [smiley=rofl.gif]
(nothing to do with an ear fetish I assure you.)
So continue on with your jokes my dear horned one. Cheer yourself up and let's see how cross JKing can get. [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]

They were all 'perfect'. Riker was better.... especially with the beard. I bet he has a hairy chest..... [Caroline stops to mop up the drool] .... and those twinkly eyes.... irrisistible. [img]http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7307/tngriker2.jpg [/img]
Picard by comparison comes over as being too stiff for my liking.

I liked the look of Dr Bashir and I loved his fantasy life as a psuedo James Bond.

This must be noted down in history as the one instance that you and I actuallly agree in our taste in men, Caroline! I had always had a secret little "thing" for Spock...
As for your later Star Trek taste, there I agree with Mara. Patrick Stewart/Picard just had something appealingly subtly sexy about him. (Had you noticed, btw, that he has naturally pointy ears? : [smiley=laughing.gif]

Probably...., but in many scenes when he leaves a room, his head is slightly tilted to the right and his right hand does a gesture that to me anyway is a wee bit feminine.
Picard on the other hand is very sexy!

The role called for Riker to refuse offers of his own command in order to remain on the flagship and this made him appear weak and unambitious and hesitant (all cardinal sins for a hero). In fact I remember this being talked about in a couple of episodes. From a script-writing point of view, they needed to keep Riker on deck because he was the main heart-throb. Millions of girls/women like me would have been very annoyed to see him leave.
Picard always struck me as too much of a father figure with an inability to really relax. In a relationship situation I don't think I'd have much influence/power with such a stern fellow. Much more fun frolicking in the bubbles with the bearded one.... [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]
They had a similar 'emasculation' issue with Chakotay in Voyager. There can be only one Captain and the No.2 has to be weaker which more or less condemmed Chakotay to being neglected most of the time. When a male character cannot be the manliest hero, he has to assume the role of being the kindest, most empathetic and that - in my opinion - makes him a better mate but a weaker character. Men don't aspire to being the No.2 male.
[Caroline forcibly stops herself from discussing this riveting topic because if she doesn't, she'll keep going all day..... ]

I've been trying to eek out my life in a world that really doesn't want me around . Strange as it may sound . Just the facts , jack .
My language aquisition is fine . Livelihood consistent . Miss my home a bit . Sounds robotic , because it is .
Been here in Shanghai for a little while . Reminds me of a Nazareth tune ...
I rarely come on here - but I always enjoy the friendships I've made here .

No it's not my birthday until November. I've decided to stay on the same number for a while that's all.
If you are feeling the job is a bit stale can't you change career? Lots of folk do. And won't Mrs Allanon enjoy living in Canada for a change?
