I have to agree with you there Lurker. That female character seems to make this game look overly cheesy. If the desire was to attract young male gamers, you'd think they would have gone for a unique attractive look as opposed to their sister's Barbie dolls.

One thing though.
Genesis Works, whose mission is to "create interactive games that stimulate Christian spiritual growth.

Have to admit I'm rather curious as to how well this will handled by the community in accordance with forum policies etc.  Reading what just happened in Off-Topic.....
I take it you weren't around the last time a thread on this game was started. Some things appear to have improved, for example, their website is now set up in such a way that you can get past the introductory video on the main page to something that could actually be useful, although having said that, their web page design and coding is still awful.

No kidding. I hate these flash websites that throw everything in your face like that. They're such a pain in the butte to navigate too. What's wrong with using good old-fashioned html with the option for a large or small version of the screenshots?

Unfortunately I can't remember enough to comment on whether the model for Axis character has improved, but I still thinks she looks more like something out of a male fantasy than an actual woman.

She still looks just like a Barbie doll.
According to the ***JA preview***
The young grandmother character Axis, which some forum posters have scoffed at as being Barbie doll-like in appearance, is meant to be an idealized version of how the grandmother would have liked to look like...

I hope they deal with why the Axis character would think a Barbie doll is a physical ideal. Where did she get this Barbie fetish?

Deleted UserHaving looked at the website a little more thoroughly, perhaps I may have jumped the gun on this. What I’ve been able to assess so far:

Yes, the web page is not easy to navigate, having to watch (fast-forward) through the videos to get the main page is a nuisance. Perhaps there is a way to do that, but it wasn’t apparent to me.  Whether or not Axis physically fits the description of a heavenly male fantasy, I’m not really qualified to say.  :
What I will say is that her expressionless features aren’t very impressive and almost seem rather cold.  A shame that the developers might have focused less on environmental glitter and more on character personalization.

Surely there’s a difference between religious themes in games versus religious themes projected as an advertisement to their cause.  Listening to Axis spouting off (while she prances about in the background) catch phrases:  g will be with you, g wants to heal people, time is short, etc. might be somewhat objectionable to some. Especially if such presumptions have influence in the course of the game.  Btw, if this is any indication, her voice acting is horrendous.  I ssspppeeeaaakkk EEEnnngggllliiissshhh.  Geez.  Hmm, almost certain I spotted a ‘Simon Says’ game pad in the Control.

Sorry.

Having had a decent look at the website, I am certain my initial impressions on this game, which I stated in a different thread some time back, were correct. I suppose it could still be enjoyable, or at least midly interesting if they've done enough with it, but my hopes really aren't high.

A lot of attention seems to have gone into making the game look pretty, but I can't help thinking that it's come at the cost of other aspects of the game. Is it just me or is there only one creature that's been tweaked slightly for different animals?

Looks that way Lurker. While I am impressed with the visuals (even though they are way too clean and shiny - which I don't like), I can't help but feel like it all looks the same with a lack of variety. I could be mistaken, but even with the new footage, I feel like I'm not seeing anything different than what we saw long before in their previous trailers. :-/

I'm still undecided on how I feel about this game.  I don't have any real problems with their depiction of Heaven, from what little I've seen, however.  Why not use a literal depiction of Heaven as described in the Bible? I don't think that it's been done before, at least not that I recall, making it seem to me to be different to the usual sorts of depiction.

Nevertheless, this has been sitting on my "games to watch" list for a while now; I may well not end up buying it, but for now, at least, I'm keeping an open mind towards it.

I do think that the lion-creatures are all kinds of cool, however - something about their design (the three pairs of wings included) appeals to me.

I'm not a huge fan of their website flow and design, however.  I wanted to take another look, especially to find he Paradise Island shots ta I recall being mentioned earlier in this thread, but gave up after a second cinematic seemed insistent on loading, without a "skip" option that I noticed. :/

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

*ahem*

Sorry.

If you go to the "enter site" > "enter" > "main" > "about" > the leftmost button at the bottom of the page after the trailer stops, it'll take you to a page that says the game (and the graphics) is based upon Biblical content - yes, it is literal, according to the Bible (book of Revelations).

Heh, I realise that - I was responding, as I recall, to those who seemed unimpressed by such a depiction, and was asking "why not?" instead of "why?", I think. ^^;

One of those god guys looks like one of the Titans in Might & Magic 7. And isn't one of the music clips from Omen 1? And it looks like Heaven is only filed with sexy model types. Still, this game looks great. Although I'll probably have to clean a few extra toilets in purgatory as penance to make up for playing this game.

Oh no! I hope I won't have to go to Purgatory let alone cleaning toilets!

My Avatar says it all, shocked, mad and then wildly amuses at this amazing world. It's early in the game yet. Maneuvering through the Heaven's the Game website is very cumbersome with all the streaming videos on each page.

Besides,  I'm starting up Memento Mori today, ummm ahhhhhhhh
Heaven can wait . . .

Deleted UserWell, whatever you paid towards making an acquaintance with Heaven - I do hope you get it all back.. (if not eventually the game itself, that is)   :-/

Anyway- I hope you enjoy Memento Mori. I think I'm starting to near the end of MM myself now, and I've rather enjoyed it so far. Just be careful about any choices you make in the game... -luckily the game seems to autosave quite often.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear it, Dajjer. :/

I am confused, however, regarding what they mean by "postage destroyed" - did they somehow damage the postal address, stamps or various other marks and indicators that are involved in shipping, or do they mean that the package was destroyed for some reason? o_0

Either way, I hope that the matter is resolved in whatever manner is best. :/

(And I'm glad that you at least have Memento Mori to play.)

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

be alarmed if you get a notice saying shipment was cancelled. I got an email saying the game was shipped and ten minutes later another e-mail saying it was cancelled because postage was destroyed. That was about an hour ago. Sent e-mail to developer asking "what the?" Within ten minutes got a response,

"Sorry for the mishap.  Your game is being mailed out on 9/1/09.
There was a misunderstanding in our postage dates.

Don't feel bad, Dagger - I've been lurking over at GB now and found someone over there has had a similar experience - I'm sure you'll get your Heaven game ok. It's just a glitch in their computers. See - I'll prove it -

I sent them an e-mail before seeing the second confirmation notice in my pay pal. Within ten minutes the game site sent a response saying they had a glitch in there mailing and it will be mailed on the 1st. Nice to see they responded so quickly.

Thanks K5 (hey, do you have a relative that used to hang out with a Time Lord?????????)

I knew such a public post could not be ignored because as far as Adventure Games goes, this is probably the premier web site on the planet. Still, I don't have the game in my hands and I have yet to receive one of those nice little Oops-we-goofed Emails.

Dagger, Sept. 1 is tomorrow, and there's still a bit of time to wait until the game actually reaches your house. Remember, the games (my pre-order included) arn't being shipped until Sept. 1.

I'm still wondering how postage would be destroyed.
What would they do? Rip up the stamps?

A computer glitch would explain why the email would be sent out.
How would it explain the wording of a form letter, unless by "glitch" they meant "virus."
