[size=22]The new Monkey Island episodic game.

http://www.telltalegames.com/

[size=22]I enjoyed it to a certain extent.

Great voice work, graphics are ok, it certainly has the Monkey Island feel (unfortunatly it's more MI4 than MI2). The humour is present although nothing that would make you split your sides.

The new mouse control is rubbish, but you can use the same keyboard control that Wallace & Gromit uses. Like most Telltale games the lack of locations, character models and shortness make it a fun, but lite version of Monkey Island.

I would give it a 6/10 but with hope that the niggly bits will be improved in the next 4 episodes.

Well, I loved it!

For crying out loud, I LOVED A NEW MONKEY ISLAND GAME.

I was sceptic at first and, while I agree the characters and story are merely "OK", so far the puzzle design and humour more than made up for it. Actually, I'm tempted to say those were some of the best puzzles seen in quite a while. Somewhat leaning on the easy side though...

Initially the humour was run of the mill but I'm happy to say that I laughed quite a lot. The cannon gag was unexpected and one of the highest points of the chapter for me (yeah, I'm a sucker for those things).

So yes, I loved it! I would like to hear your thoughts Alkis. Hell, this was a 4-5 hours of solid entertainment! A very strong first chapter and we can only hope they can keep up with the rest.

Gets a nice and well deserved 8/10 from me.

PS: I didn't mind the control system - admittedly weird, but you soon get used to it.

Maybe i'm being over harsh with the score. Who knows maybe it's more of a 7. I did have fun playing it, but it had a lot to live up to and I thought it fell short slightly.

There are some great puzzles in the game. In particular the surgery chair puzzle was a lot of fun and the "get the pirate off the boat" puzzle.

However, they overused the wander around the jungle puzzle with 2 map puzzles and the idols.

I've only played like an hour of it and I'm loving it. It's so different and such a feel good game... it sure makes one feel somewhat happier when playing it!

I also love the new interface, although at times Treepwoods face when he's walking looks too much like a stone.. hehe

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

I needed a little time to warm up to it at first, but by the second half I found myself enjoying it a lot. The puzzles were better than I expected from a Telltale game. And though not all the jokes worked well, those that did were pretty funny. I loved all the nods to the earlier games, and was tickled to see a Spoiler AlertWallace and Gromit joke, where Guybrush does Wallace's trademark hand gesture after getting the cheese.

A few  complaints:

When I select "no hints" from the options screen I mean "no hints"! A few times Guybrush would pipe up anyway with something like "I wonder if X is connected to Y?" Grrr....

The soundtrack was, at least on a first playthrough, unmemorable. A minor point, perhaps. But the music from the Monkey Island games has always been among my favorite game soundtracks, and I was hoping for more here.

The crazy control system. The "drag Guybrush around" option is ridiculous. The WASD option is better, but I would have liked a traditional point and click option. I can't figure out why they didn't include something as basic as that.

But overall a fun return to the world of Monkey Island, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next episode.

Loved it, though I am a fan of the old games as well.

Good stuff
- MI vibe is back
- Nice puzzles
- Keyboard controls and shortcuts (to examine)
- Character design of the main characters

Bad stuff
- Mouse controls are possibly the worst I ever used
- Character design of all the other characters. You'll see the same head model on at least 3 characters, and it is a poor model (lacking details)
- Minor issue: reuse of 1 puzzle. That might work in a 15 hour game, not in a 3-4 hour game

I'd give the game a score between 7 and 8. The extra point is for sentimentality, when I forgive Telltale for the subpar character models.

Hmm a got a question.
I bought the 34.95$ package of Tales of Monkey Island, but I had the impression that you had the right to download one episode from other series with this purchase?

Maybe im wrong because I can only download the TMI episode (and the others that will come obviously)...

If you preordered it then on the confirmation email you got there would have been a free game code that you use to download another episode.

I had this same concern and sent an e-mail to TellTale yesterday.

According to TellTale's order page the offer still appears to be available when you select from the games links on the left side of the page.   I think the 'pre-order' was just an advertising  gimmick.  :-/

Seems you'll always get a free episode, regardless of having a pre-order or not. So like Lucien said, the confirmation email should have a code to claim a free game. I guess the only difference is the cover that'll be shipped with the dvd. Oh, and access to the Private Pirates Club on the forum.

You were right! I just noticed I got a serial that I can use in any episode game from the site!

Avast, ye scurvy sea-dogs. I'll wager you've got booty on your mangy minds and we here at Telltale don't aim to disappoint you on that score.

Ye'll get a Free Game: Why ye would be wantin' to play a game without pirates, I surely cannot fathom, aside Use the coupon code to get a free episode of your choice from the Telltale store:

I'm really looking forward to Episode 2. This was a pleasant surprise out of nowhere. Other than W&G I'd been seeing less and less adventures I feel like trying. Then BAM - 5 months of Monkey Island goodness, along with the remake tomorrow. Thank you very much Telltale/Lucasarts!

As much fun as this episode was though I kept wondering what it would be like to see KQ, PQ or Quest for Glory continued.

PQ was an awesome series back in the day, if they made a new one though It'd probably be more akin to the PQ "Swat" games like the third and fourth ones (which were great, but nothing like the old PQ adventures).

SWAT 4 is a great game for what it is. Especially in co-op. Though what I wouldn't do for a new adventure game. There's a cop game here and there, but they never really go into as much detail as PQ did. I don't mean the annoying PQ1 "safety check" either....haha.

lol, you didn't enjoy having to walk around your police cruiser everytime you went out on patrol? lol, yeah it didn't do everything great. Though I still remember the fun we had in school with it (that's where I first played it). In math class the teacher had it on a compuer and we'd play it after lunch when he'd let us, everyone always tried typing in stupid things during the shower area to see what they'd say and such.
