Just a heads up, if any of you were on the seat about  Majesty 2 gogamer is having it on sale for 21.90, that's about half off (at least from what I paid on steam, 39.99).
http://www.gogamer.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=84051007&extid=Sept2309

Wish I waited a week or so
, still a good game and easily worth 21 bucks and change.

Deleted UserAh, thanks for the info, Stiler!  8-)

Well, if it's already gone down that much in price, who knows what might happen if one waits even longer.. - it might just go down even more .....    [smiley=angel.gif]      [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]

itr hasn't went down any, that's just gogamers 48hour sale they have and generally include just one-two new games in it. After the 48hrs it'll be back to it's original price.

It will probably take a while for it to reach that price normally.

Or up in about 40h
Well, it will most likely drop in price in about a year or so.

Anyway, I just got addicted to another game: Blood bowl. It's based on an old board game which simulates rugby/american football (or something almost similar), but with fantasy creatures like elves, orcs, dwarfs, trolls, ratmen and so on. The turnbased mode of the game is really good (it's basically the board game with nice 3d graphics), but the real time part is a real stinker. Still, as the entire game can be played in turnbased, I don't see any reason not to play it like this. I'm usually not a fan of sport games (in fact I hate them, not counting Mario kart), but this game is wonderful, filled with quirky humor and the gameplay requires a lot of tactics.

and as for the board game itself:

Alright, I just finished majesty 2. It was a good game, one that I can recommend to everyone. I still prefer majesty 1, and the main challenge in majesty 2 came form the fact that on later stages (in particularly one where you are surrounded by two other factions) you simply can't use your tried and tested strategies used on the first handful of levels. Not an incredibly difficult game but still hard enough to be fun. I also found a bug on the last level that makes me wonder how well they playtested it. Still, I enjoyed the ride. By the way, the last level is not the hardest one, nor is the level before that. The two levels that you have to finish before unlocking that level are harder.

Apparently it got some good reviews so far...    [smiley=happy.gif]

Yep, Risen is out in just a few days
. Not sure to pick it up digitally to get it quicker or through a store for a little cheaper.

Where did you find any reviews? The only reviews I could find were two small blurbs on metacritic about it (Both 8/10) but no full reviews (in English that is) that I could find.

Oh, agreed, no full reviews in English, but a German magazine, Games Aktuell, gave it an 86/100 - i'll link you to the thread for the great screenshots
http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/risen---first-review--86-100/919692?page=1

Also,  this Italian review gave it an 8.  http://www.spaziogames.it/recensioni_videogiochi/console_multi_piattaforma/9667/risen.aspx

..and this is from a thread that  I'll link you to at RPGWatch:

----------------------------------
The following articles are in German, with one notable exception.

Let's start with the print mags. GameStar uploaded a site-seeing tour split into 4 videos. Their review, not online yet, rewards Risen with 87%. "Risen is no unofficial Gothic 4. Risen is the return of Gothic 2. […] The best Gothic so far […]"
PC Games says something similar: "[…] the title is exactly what Gothic fans expect." - 86%
360Live gives the console version an 8.3/10. Their 2nd opinion 7.8/10. They praise the captivating gameplay but criticise the outdated graphics and the small font size.
According to GamePro Risen deserves 80%. "A fine RPG with lots of details, but also with a few quirks blurring the fun."
GamesAktuell thinks "Risen has become a very good RPG […], only suffering from minor weaknesses." - 9/10
And now online press. DemoNews offers positive first impressions without a rating.
Gameswelt likes Risen. "At the end of the day Risen does a lot [of things] right and few wrong." They like the usual Gothic formula and criticise a thin story, a couple of logic holes and minor technical glitches like sporadic clipping errors, incorrect camera position and frame rate drops in the city.
Xboxdynasty gets the credit for the first roasting of the XBox 360 conversion. They say the game has some interesting points, but the visuals doen't reach current gen niveau, which impacts the fun. "[The] graphics clearly kill the atmosphere and the mood of the game."
And finally an English article. World of Risen published a translation of their detailed Risen review. Clever as they are, the fan site left out the rating part. The piece is relatively spoiler-free and very informative. Especially the page about the technical stuff.

Has anybody looked into King Arthur yet?

I have been lookign at it, it's gotten fairly decent reviews with only complaints mainly around how hard it can be (The mission structure is open ended and you can find yourself facing a very tough army early on).

However gameplay wise it looks quite fun and all of the rpg elements make it seem very in depth with your knights (hero units) and having items/skills to learn.

I'm hoping it'll be one of the games on sale from Steam for their holiday sale like last year (almost all games were on sale, bioshock was like 5 bucks).

Has anyone tried King Arthur yet? I'm quite tempted to give it a shot, although I don't know if i'm prepared to spend 400sek on it.

I have it in my 'to play' shortlist; I actually have it in my possession; but I've been too busy to game this past few weeks.  Will let you know as soon as I get to it..

I just found out that there is a demo for it, so I'll give the game a try that way, once i'm done with ME2. Thanks anyway.

Well, I finished ME2 today (staying home because of a darn cold really helps when it comes to finishing games faster
), so I gave King Arthur a chance. The demo made me interested enough in the game to actually buy it.

The game is not flawless, the AI seem to be rather bad at dealing with archers (my archers always get the most experience from each battle, and with a handful of archer units, i'm able to take care of larger, more experienced and more powerful armies), so I have to limit my own archer use to make sure that the game stays enjoyable, and magic is a bit annoying. The game itself feels a bit like a mix between mark of chaos & total war. It has a bit more of a tactics focus than total war, but a bit more of a strategic focus than mark of chaos.

Calling it a roleplaying game feels a bit misleading tough. It's a strategy/tactics game with a leveling element. It has a story with story missions, and a more open strategic map. It's a strange mix, but it actually works.

I can't understand why sites like Gamespot claims that the game is hard to learn, or very difficult, because it's not. At least not on normal. The AI is not that bright, and you can use it's mistakes against it. If you conserve your units, they grow in power, and soon they become killing machines (archers in particular). The game might take a turn for the more difficult a bit later on, but up to this point I have not had any problems at all.

I'm not too familiar with the legends about king Arthur. I do of course know about the basics, I have seen a few movies about king Arthur, read a bit about it, but i'm not an expert in the field, so I don't know how close the story of the game actually follows the countless legends about king Arthur. It is refreshing to see a low fantasy strategy game tough. Most fantasy strategy games seem to be very high fantasy, with dragons, magic & orcs everywhere, and while this game has a little bit of magic, and some mystical creatures (many are from folk lore), the focus is still humans and human conflicts.

It's an rpg in the sense of how you can build up your knights, set up their abilities, who they marry, etc in how you want them to be.

I bought it back during the Steam holiday sale and had fun with it, but Dragon age kept  me away from it a lot and now ME2.

Well, it's a very shallow in an "RPG" sense. You have a little bit of character development, and you also get to chose if you want to be a benevolent ruler or a tyrant, Christian or pagan (depending on who you choice to help in each mission you will get points in each category, if you get enough you get access to new units). It's a solid strategy game, but games like Age of wonders offers deeper character development.

Hmm, have you gotten that far into it? I have a sense that you haven't really got to the whole knights of the round table part of the game yet, that is where the "rpg" comes from mainly and this is something you get into later on into the game rather then near the start.

You have a whole wealth of things to learn for your knight's (powers, etc) as well you can find artificats which you can equip for them.

Starcraft was the first RTS I'd ever played.

Since, up to that point, I'd only played platformers and FPS's (and mostly action-y games) it took my by surprise, and I found it boring. (I know, I know - lame - but it was my first foray into computer gaming after being used to console stuff and I wasn't familiar with its 'unit management' aspects)

Then came Age Of Empires II.

AoE II lit my RTS fire, and is still my fav (though I really, really liked AoE III as well).  I loved the settings and the gameplay, though I can only play RTS's now and again.  I just can't seem to keep playing them beyond a week or so.

I've never played a turn-based strategy game, as they never appealed to me.  I may give one a try some day though...

Has anyone seen Ruse?  The gameplay vids I've seen look incredible.

Playing: Skyrim: Dragonborn/Dawnguard; Torchlight 2; To The Moon; Far Cry 3

Finished: HomeFront; Far Cry 3; Dishonored

Always Playing: Half Life 2

Looking Forward To: BioShock: Infinite

Reading: BioShock: Rapture; SW: Revan

Deleted UserWhy don't you try RON: Rise of Legends, Xermosam?  I have an idea you might like it.  If you ever wanted to try out turn-based strategy, you should try out Heroes of Might and Magic 5.  It's probably the most graphically pleasing TBS out there at the moment, with the most fun and variety in gameplay.

Yes, RUSE does look yummy.

Grrr, all the above King Arthur chatter is really making me feel frustrated that I don't have time for gaming at the moment - in fact, I started feeling depressed about my lack of gaming-time a few days ago already.

I'm going to really rush through the work and stuff that's been keeping me from gaming and jump back into Div 2 as well as start K.A. this coming weekend!  >

Well, Wales is beginning to fall, after they decided to declare war on me because i picked the christian side, so i'm not at the very beginning of the game. The RPG elements still seem to be rather weak. A bit stronger than say Mark of chaos, but weaker than Age of wonders (if you count character development as being enough for it to be called an "RPG", which i really don't feel it does, after all, there is no roleplaying in it).

I've never played a turn-based strategy game, as they never appealed to me.  I may give one a try some day though...

There are so many different types of turnbased strategy games that it's hard to judge them after only having played a few. Some are very easy to get into, like Heroes of might and magic or Age of wonders, others requires hours before you begin to get anywhere, like Emperor of the fading suns, Master of orion or Korsun pocket. There are also a lot of different types of games. Games like Chaos gate or Incubation are tactical games where you control a small squad of troops that level up and grow stronger as the campaign progresses, while in a game like Korsun pocket or steel panthers you move a large amount of squads and vehicles on a somewhat larger map. Games like Emperor of the fading suns, Civilization or stars! on the other hand focuses on a grander strategy, where you lead an entire nation/empire and you try to conquer the world/galaxy. The differences between different TBSs is greater than between different RTSs, even though there is quite a wide spectrum of different RTS types out there.

Hands down, THE greatest turn based strategy game ever is Shogun: Total War. It has just the right balance between Strategy and Tactics, resource management is minimal and you actually learn a lot of stuff about 16th/17th century Japan..fabulous game!
