well i think its called that?

im pretty new to adventure and just the title of this game makes me want it.. is it worth hunting down (whcih will be real bloody hard. london is crap for finding old games) or should spend my few coins on one of the bellow titles which will be a bit easer to get hold of.

syberia (about £25)
sam and max/day of the tentical (about £6)
jack orlando (£10)
day of dreuids (i think its called this? heard it was awful but adventure beggers cant be choosers at £11)

so err.... back to question. is this game something I need as an adventure fan? will it be worth the effort of getting it? is it on abandon ware?

thanks

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, yes, that's the title. Difficult to recommend or not recommend. It completely depends on your tastes. You might hate it or you might love it. It is a rather macabre game.

Make sure you get Day of the Tentacle, it's one of the funniest adventures ever. Well worth six quid. Sam'n'Max is in my opinion not quite as good but definitely worth playing.

If you mean Mystery of the Druids... most people disliked it, I thought it was okay.

Haven't played the others yet (though Syberia should arrive any day now) so I can't comment.
I forgot my sig.

Try Ebay.com. The other day I buyed Kingdom O' Magic (another rare gem) from UK.
I Have No Mouth... is one of my favorite adventures but I recommend it with reservations. Its one of the most disturbing games I've ever played... and I like that

I also recommend reading the short story by Harlan Ellison. It has a terrible ending (way more disturbing than anything in the game!!).

It is a good game, scarey and strange, that was about the time I started playing games. That one along with Dark Seed I and II.  Oh, how I loved those games and Dark Eye too. Oh and Shivers too!

My question is, will those games run on today's computers.  I mean a quality that would be okay, some computers won't accept the old games and if they do, it winds up being a bunch of little squares.

There are a couple of tricks to make an old game run under new systems. VDMSound emulates a SB card and works fine in many cases. Another choice is Virtual PC. Almost every game I tried worked excellent with this app. It, as the title suggests, emulates a PC with an S3 Trio64 and a SB card.

YES!! And now that you mention it, the Tex Murphy series work great with this application. I was playing Pandora last week under XP

The digitized sound was a bit grainy perhaps but nothing critical.

Well I can send you the app by icq if you want. Its shipped with a version of PC DOS so you just start the "virtual" PC, load Pandora and play! Keep in mind that you need to disable the EMS memory from CONFIG.SYS. Thats it!

have you tried Sanitarium if not then you should by all means do.... you won't be disappointed

IHNMAIMS is in my to-play list (a rather long one!) but i've heard pretty good stuff about it... can't give you a personal opinion though

between Sam'n'Max and DOTT i would get BOTH!!! Well SnM first, i found it better that DOTT, but they both are great fun

about the other games, maybe you should check the Syberia threads in this forum... personally i recommend it but i always warn that it's TOO DAMN EASY, especially to experienced adventurers... Jack Orlando was nice but could be very frustrating at times with its dead end situations... but it has an easy level that could be, well.. easier! i liked it anyway... as for mystery of the druids, i liked it at first but then i got bored of it and left it halfway thru... i am still planning on returning to finish it, i just don't know when... keep in mind that it contains one of the most shocking scenes (imo) of all time!!!

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

"I have no mouth and I must scream" is very hard to find.  When it sells on ebay, it usually sells for a lot of  money.  If you have the game, you might want to hang onto it.   I like science fiction, and Harlan Ellison, but the game appeared to be too depressing for me.

Deleted UserIMHO I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is what I  would call a riveting game.  Some people find it depressing in it's intensity.  Most people that I deal with have loved it.

I haven't played I have no mouth and I must scream but it sounds interesting.

From the ones you wrote, I bought Syberia, loved it, in my opinion one of the best games ever and would recommend it to anybody with a desire for good stories. Day of the tentacle is also an excellent game and it has some of the most original puzzles ever.

Sam and max didn't appeal to me but it did to others. Mystery of the druids... I consider it as one of the worst purchases I have ever made. If I knew how bad it would be I wouldn not even want it for free. Jack Orlando...I have it but never played it :-).... I'm a busy man.

Yes!
Just wait a couple of days. I'm going to let only two people to download it at the same time (you and Psybafire). If anybody else is interested I'll see if I can hold it a while longer.

I posted this in a previous thread when Wolfboy was asking where you can purchase IHNMAIMS:

www.harlanellison.com/herc.htm

It sells (brand new) for $32- U.S.

The only caveat... they won't ship this game outside of the U.S. - but you could have them ship it to a friend (or a friend of a friend) that lives in the U.S. and have them forward it to you.

Personally, I enjoyed the game, but I must admit I've liked every horror adventure game I've played (except maybe the last half of Phantasmagoria 2).  The plot and the (old-style) interface are great but the game has some frustrating dead-ends, so it might depend on how much you like the genre.  MichalN was right, you'll probably either love it or hate it.  Now getting it to run in a non-DOS environment...

Good luck!
