A upcoming episode of Law and Order SVU involves a situation of something called sexting.  Sexting is probably bested discribed as sending sexually explicit pictures of people, mainly teenagers involving themselves, over cell phones or other electronic devices.  What is shocking is that the teenagers themselves are charged with child pornagraphy and can end up as registered sex offenders.  I ask how far can this go?  For example, should a 11 year old be treated as such?  This is fairly new and laws are being passed to deal with this situation.

Like you said, chronotigger, it's a new situation for the judicial system to deal with.  I guess we'll find out as it unfolds in the courts.

Personally, I think parents should monitor their children's cell phone usage more carefully and make sure nothing like this is even an issue (easier said than done, I know).

Similar laws exist here and the govt is currently running a campaign to educate the school kids about the dangers involved in sexting.

I think the problem occurs with the circulation of such material.

Ahh.... the perils of being a teenager.  When I was young it was only sex, booze and drugs and possible rapists you had to worry about.  Now it's your mobile phone ....   :

Actually, I wasn't that clued into sex at that age and I blame co-ed schools.   [smiley=nono.gif]

Also school shootings, metal detectors and teachers sleeping with their students.
