I can appreciate that FMV games are not to everyone's taste but I found the game excellent. The plot is very interesting & for me the game ran so smoothly & flawlessly. The acting is excellent (professional actors were used) & there is a nice mix of reading, dialogue, inventory manipulation, & more challenging logical puzzles. Also if you are interested in the location, i.e. the town of Eger, you learn more about it during the course of the game & can go walkabout if you want to although there is a nice map feature if you don't fancy sightseeing! The game, I think, would appeal to anyone who enjoyed the Carol Reed series.

Sherlock Holmes: the Awakened and Martin Mystère: Operation Dorian Gray, for me. Found them in a special promotion in a general electronic store and just had to buy them....

Why? Because I "Gotta catch'em all!!!"

"What I really want is to get a copy of Shadow of the Comet, but I can't find one for a reasonable price Sad And by reasonable I mean under $25, because I'm cheap like that."

To Arkadia: If you want Shadow of the Comet, you can download it for free here:

http://www.abandonia.com/en/downloadgame/237

Donations are optional. I know lots of people don't like direct game downloads, but I played this recently and it runs beautifully on DosBox and I think you could do worse than to get this long, terrifying, difficult and ultimately satisfying game for free. (I'm cheap too,  I suppose

The graphics are indeed spectacular and the puzzles were mostly fair imo. I don't think you'll regret buying it Shany.

Thanks, Jelena.

@loobiloo - I don't mind FMV. I'm worried about the comparison to Carol Reed. I find those games dull - people who are so bored that they solve murder mysteries for fun do not interest me much. The scenery in those game is lovely, though.

I usually don't get 3rd person games, but I remember you saying you really enjoyed this game, and that swayed me. Don't worry. I won't hold you responsible if I don't like it

The reason I compared the games was more to do with the sense of immersion in a real place - somewhere in Hungary, Sweden, Capri etc rather than the plot!

There is a difference from The Carol Reed Mysteries in that they are static photos (beautiful & well put together) & in Yoomerjuk's Ring it's entirely FMV. There is no murder in YR -  it's a mystery that leads on to an 'informal' 'investigation'. I don't want to spoil the plot Shany, but it's not about solving a murder mystery - there's no murder!  There is nothing gory - it's about an American born man trying to find ancestors of a man who mysteriously disappeared & wrote to his grandfather about what he was involved in. The man who wrote to him was a scientist and had been ridiculed about his theories on time travel......            It's an engaging game!

Just got Nibiru today. Seems like a very linear slow paced rip off of Broken Sword at the moment lol.

Just returned from NYC (to Europe) and took the opportunity to get some games at low cost (they are about 50 percent of the price over in the US).

Dead Reefs (terrible reviews, but I'm willing to try)
Martin Mystere Crime Stories (ditto)
Agatha Christie 3-pack (AttwN, Orient, Sun)
Dracula 3 (including Ressurection and Sanctuary for 15 US!)
(Murder in) The Abbey
Sinking IslandEverlight
Dream Chronicles

You see my problem here?

Um.. my heavens, Cultura, with the exception of Dream Chronicles, I have the exact same lot sitting on my shelf, waiting too!  Let's play Dracula 3 (or maybe Sinking Island, since it's been making waves?
) next!

Oh, just remembered: I have Scorpio Ritual too, and I might have So Blonde arriving with my cousin, who might be bringing me a copy from a store near him in Cambridge, next week..."

After not buying any new games for quite some time -- I'm just a poor but honest gamer
-- I went for DF Pins and Needles. It was way too good a thing to pass up.

Then a couple of weeks ago, I found Culpa Innata on eBay for $5. Only one copy was available so I pounced on it.

CI had been on my mind ever since I first posted info about Culpa Innata 2. It not only looked quite interesting, Aya simply raved to me about it.

I'm playing it now and I absolutely love it. There's a lot to this game and I'm taking my time and soaking up as much of it as I can. It's one of the best AGs I've ever played. Phoenix rocks!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I need to play this again. I got to day two and had no idea where to go or what to do next. I like the concept but the game is very clunky imo.

You should regularly trawl the net for bargains, Karla!  Many online stores also have a "bargain bin" or a marked down section. Though you have to check reglarly, as those bargains tend to fly quite quickly.   ...um wait - that's why I have so many games...

[smiley=shudder.gif]...beware of those $1 games tho - got to be something wrong if nobody wants to buy a game even when its only $1...  :-X

I bought Nikopol and Moment of Silence for $1 plus shipping in the last month on ebay...

 Gee!
 good find!
Were they new, though?

I meant those "new" (unused) ones at regular stores, that after having been marked down to $1 many months before, still are lying there, untouched. I noticed, for instance, that  American McGee's Bad Day LA seemed to be such a game.  Now, I have nothing at all against the game - in fact, I was often tempted to buy it at that price.  Yet, the fact that nobody else seemed to want it, just sort of put me off...  :

EDIT: Oh, which was a very good thing, actually, because after I had read a few reviews, I realised that there is a reason for the laws of  supply and demand to work the way they do. From what I had read on those reviews, the stores I saw the game at, must have a policy against marking games down to under a dollar, because that's where demand would have placed it - well under a dollar, in fact.

Actually, I had a very brief moment of suspicion about CI being sold new for $5 -- I'm not too trusting these days and I figured there had to be a catch. But the seller's rating was 100% positive so I decided to go with it.

The game arrived quickly and in pristine condition as advertised. That, combined with the great quality of the game itself, makes it one of my best-ever purchases.

I just love it when something good happens.

EDIT: I forgot to mention one of the best things about CI: No DRM!!!!   [smiley=clap.gif]

I hope you enjoy it immensely, Karla.  I, of course, cannot wait for the sequel.

Deleted UserI always wait for games to get marked down.  There seems to be a crucial moment (which I sometimes misjudge either too soon or too late) when they get old enough to go on sale, and often get marked down twice, eventually.  But,- if you wait too long for the second markdown (which might never come), with a good game,  it can result in it disappearing off the shelves, or it attaining "collector item" status.

Anyway, good buy, Karla! I paid a good deal more for my copy, (having bough it quite long ago), but I hope we both get to enjoy the game a lot.

ok traveler, I just loaded D3 into the tray. Opening cinematics: nice!

Now wandering around town finding the inn.

(must admit I do not have a lot of time on my hands this week, am opening my second cafe in my hometown, still a lot of work to be done....)

Deleted UserWell I've just entered the Inn. I do have other games to finish as well, though. I wonder if we should do a playthrough thread- that will be fun and might motivate other people to join in the fun. In such threads where a few people are playing at the same time, one unfortunately has to be careful of giving away spoilers.
However, I've done them before, and it can actually be rather fun to see if the other guy knows what you are talking about, if you only give cryptic clues about your location in the game...

I absolutely loved Dracula 1 and 2, too bad I haven't picked up the third one or I'd give it a go with you guys.

Let me know how you like it, I haven't heard too many good things about the third installment so I've been avoiding it. I hope it's better than I've heard it is, I did so love the first two.

Will do. Started a seperate thread for Drac 3 now, to keep us motivated. You might want to avoid it in case of spoilers, though..   :-/

I'm planning on avoiding the thread, however I do expect a full report on how enjoyable you found the game when you finish it  8-)
