the initial oddities of the dialogue; discussed already ad nauseum, do not seem to impinge on my consciousness as i pursue the designated route. perhaps i am deaf to them?

Perhaps I was also.
All in all I noticed less than half a dozen slight oddities, only one of which throughout the whole game I thought was out of place.

There were quite a few good cracks... not uproariously funny but mildly anmusing and wittty.
Some fell rather flat.

But by & large I thought that the translators from the Geman did a really excellent job --- and quite honestly, if I hadn't known, I would have thought  that the dialogs had been written by a true Englishman or more likely an American !

leng, i am very happy with the game. i consider that the expence is already well justified. i am in the uk and paid about 18$ delivered for the experience! i think that this is good value for the outlay.
i have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending an attractive pc game.
also playing:
keepsake, secrets of da vinci, so blonde, myth of the illochim and a couple of rpgs: two worlds and titan quest.

WOW ! You ARE playing a lot of games simultaneously.  I can't do that --- I forget what puzzle I'm trying to solve, where and why ! [smiley=grin.gif]

Can I ask whereabouts you've got to in Secret Files 2... and how's it going ?

I don't remember being in Jersey (i.e. the Channel Islands) but maybe I missed the name of the location.

I'm now playing the full game too and enjoying it in the main. The actress voicing Nina is a little better than in the first game although I agree with richmcd that the translation is still a little wobbly in places.

However, as in Tunguska, the impressive graphics and excellent intuitive interface outweigh the negatives in my opinion.

I've recently acquired and started playing the game. I haven't got very far, but I do have a couple of initial thoughts. First, it might just be because I'm playing the PAL version, but the line that read "a certain [name]" seems to have been changed to "someone called [name]". Second, I don't recall Nina being quite this bitchy. Yes, I can see why she would be upset or suspicious about the events that have happened so far, but IMO she does seem to be overly confrontational. On the plus side, she has some good lines, including Spoiler Alerta variation on Monty Python's Dead Parrot Sketch for the bell in the laundry room on board the Calypso.

Excuse ignorance but what IS the PAL version ?

Maybe they told her to act somewhat bitchy. Actually I'm not surprised.
I would also be bitchy & confrontational on the boat if I'd come for a quiet peaceful cruise --- as mentioned in my posts http://justadventure.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1240561285/60
( As is well known here --- it doesn't take much for mre to be confrontational ANYWAY !!!  [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]  )

I think maybe Lurker01 has the Wii version of the game? which is indeed the PAL version if you live in Europe (most of it anyway)

The voice actors for games do get small comments above or under their lines telling them how their characters moods are for example.
I would be very upset, too, if my baggage disappeared, then suddenly re-appared again...

PAL is a code that means the game is only designed to work on hardware made in a particular area. In this case, the game I'm using has been set to run only on Wii consoles made in Europe.

I get your point about being bitchy and confrontational, but she's still a little too aggressive for my taste. Then again, I'm not an aggressive person by nature, so it's probably just a case of personal bias.

Deleted UserAhhh ! ------------ Thanks
Not having used a console, including the Wii, I was confused.
I know tvery well hat European [size=16]TV's work on the PAL system, and I should have realised that you were talking about that and anything about or if it comes over better or worse than the PC version).

P.S.
Yes, that (Spoiler) line is a whopper !!

Len, as the Wii still relies on analogue output via composite or component interface, the machine's hardware must be able to output its video in a form the TV will be able to use.  There are many differences between what are commonly called the NTSC and PAL, systems, as I'm sure you know (60Hz refresh versus 50Hz, 480 lines versus 576, and so on), and since games are responsible for sending data already interlaced to the framebuffer and so forth, the software must also be tailored to the output device.

Fortunately digital systems remove this annoying complexity.
You can't kill someone in a studio.

Deleted UserThanks for the info JKing.

Yes I knew about the difference between NTSC & PAL TV, or more accurately I knew about the 60 vs 50 Hz0 but had forgotten about the interlacing difference !

I don't intend to try the Wii or any other console.  At my age it's difficult to adjust to new systems and even my new all in one HP printer (Printer, scanner, fax, copier) iseems to be at least a half dozen times more sophisticated & complex than my previous 3 year old similar type which I had to junk a couple of months ago.
Not too nice getting ancient !![smiley=cry.gif] [smiley=cry.gif]

We bought a nice plasme 42" sony TV about 6 months ago. At present it is working on (PAL --- cable) analogue but for a relatively small additional monthly payment we could switch to digital.  I don't really intend to do so since nearly all of the prorammes here are so abysmal that we watch very little.
In any case I'm slowing down with computer games & activities and I find that I resent wasting the time on (mainly) rubbish.

Suppose however I do switch to (PAL --- cable) digital.  How would that affect the Wii and other consoles --- not for us but for out great granddaughter ?

I finished the game yesterday and while I did enjoy it, I thought it suffered from many of the same problems as the first game. Again, the weakest parts were probably the dialogue and voice-acting (though on the plus side, I found Nina's new voice actress far less annoying than the previous one). The majority of puzzles (with a few glaring exceptions) seemed reasonably logical, but they seemed to get more and more disjointed towards the end of the game, and the ending sequence slowed the storyline to a crawl just when it should have been picking up the pace. It says a lot about modern AGs that I was prepared to overlook this out of joy at actually having some puzzles to solve.

Overall, I'd say this game was pretty similar to the first Secret Files. If you liked that one, you'll probably like this one as well, and if you didn't like the first game than I doubt the sequel will change your mind.

Deleted UserI finished the demo a few days ago and I am looking forward to continuing this adventure.  I'm inclined to concur with some of the general comments regarding voice acting, she (Nina) seems to speak slowly and more emphatically than one might normally expect in a natural dialogue.  Her general attitude sometimes takes on the impression of excessive negativity at times especially with some of the other characters. Then again, she is a somewhat attractive young lady and has perhaps seen her fair share of nuisances.
The game (well at least the demo) seemed to be somewhat on the easy side but it's probably a bit premature to comment further.

The good news is that my retail version just arrived today.  If anyone in the US is interested, I took a chance and purchased if from these folks:

http://www.sendit.com/sendit/10034776.product

Delivery took exactly seven days and the price ($21.95) seemed reasonable.  Back to the games.

Edit:  Having just started the second chapter, the voice acting for Sam and Max is so much better.  Go figure.
