| Deleted User | I saw this in the news as an upcoming game and thought it looked strikingly creative. It's called Machinarium. It's an adventure game. Here's the vid: Creative is the right word. Adbventure (game) is not !

Sure !
From the look of the video it gave me the impression of being a platform game and not a (Quest-)Adventure. Maybe I'm wrong !
In a similar vein :- Not to me personally it didn't ! I'm fairly poor at games that involve hand-eye coordination and getting worse with increasing old age ! Also I'm not very good at fairly fast reaction & timing, I got the impression from the vid that these aspects are paramount in Machinarium ?!?
Again maybe I'm wrong. ------- and if so please correct my incorrect assumptions and I apologise for giving a false impression.
P.S. LATER --- after thinking things over a bit more !!
I never watch the videos of games --- in fact I think this may have been the first time. Maybe the fast somewhat jerky movement is how ALL vids look ???
I DO download very many Demos --- in fact every game before I buy it. I want to know most importantly if the game will at least run on my system --- I recently bought one that didn't (at considersble expense), and then to see if it's the sort of game I'll like. Neither of which can I see on a video !!!

Status : Online | Have you played Samorost? http://amanita-design.net/samorost-1/ Machinarium is made by the same people, and looks to be in the same style- point and click with surreal environments. There will probably be puzzles that depend on timing, but I don't think they will result in a Game Over.
Having an older computer, I always check system requirements, and sometimes even while it passes the minimun requirements it still doesn't work, so demos are very important to check these things. Though I've just bought a new computer (should arrive this weekend) so I won't have to worry about system requirements for a bit.
Out of curiousity, which game was it that did not work?

It sounds like they're not creating another puzzle game in the vein of Samorost. This one may fit the description of Adventure.
Len, it's my guess that you probably won't have to worry about quick reflexes or fast mousing. I bet you can take the game at your own pace with intellect and intuition being the most important skills to finish the game.
Then again, I don't really know - but neither do any of us. We'll just have to wait and see. To me, it looks amazing!
Len, when I read your first reply, my initial reaction was, "hmm, that's pretty pompous.". But after I read your second reply I realized that that was not the case. That's what I love about this place. It's not populated by jaded gamers and self-righteous internet junkies. Considering all the hardcore gaming forums I hang at, this place is very refreshing!

Shany, next time please don't link to interesting demo's that lure you into trying them out, and then get you intrigued, and waste your precious and very important internet forum reading and posting time.. ...um, now please excuse me while I try to figure out what I need to do with the little goats on Samorost... : *cough*
EDIT: Ok, got past the goats - now we need to figure out what to do with the gears and the snails... heheheh this is fun!
EDIT: [smiley=rofl.gif] Brilliant! Just got past the owl, woodpecker squirrel and worms... and I'm officially hooked!
What makes this a brilliant little piece of software, is not only is it cute and intrigueing, it doesn't need language, so anyone in the world can play it; and it seems to be pretty addictive - it's drawing me in...aaaaarrrggghhh!
Now for the anteater and ants... [smiley=rolleyes.gif] ..ok got past that, but for the first time I'm a bit stumped, with the steam pipes. I saw I can regulate them, but... um, nothing seems to be happening. Hmmmm.
Oh, ok! Yes very cute, but of course extremely short. I take it there's more? Much, much more?
