I liked the original AvP as well, Ivinia. Not as much as the first movies that spawned the idea (Alien, Aliens and Predator). But IMO it was better than at least one of the films in the actual Alien series and nearly as good as Predator 2 (Danny Glover made the difference in that one).
Of course, I also loved the original AvP shooter. It had one of the most intense fear factors in a game ever.
Cheers, Terry

Let's see here, the weakest Alien movie of the series... I'm thinking #3 when she was in that prison and shaved her head.
I haven't seen AvP2 yet, but from the clips I saw it seemed to go into the stereotypical campy teen horror flick route.

I missed AvP2 (both the film and the game), but wouldn't mind watching / playing them at some point.
Heck I even enjoyed Jason X when it was shown on regular cable TV. Yeah, it was kind of a ridiculous sci-fi departure from the earthbound slasher series. However the FX were quite good and the acting wasn't all that bad. Well, at least good enough for a mindless two-hours of cool popcorn escapism with plenty of action and gore. Same goes for Freddy vs. Jason.
Cheers, Terry

AvP 2 The Movie on the other hand, I quite enjoyed 8-).

As for the Alien series I didn't like the 2nd movie too much. Very military.
As for the Alone In The Dark, I have to admit Ivinia that I spent watching it 10 minutes of my life. It was extremely preposterous.

I'm absent here for a long time, and what do I see when I get back? One of my all time favourite movies being thrashed! I guess that makes Alien3 my entry in this thread. Regarded as the weakest of the series by most Alien fans, and generally seen as a mediocre science fiction film, I couldn't disagree more! Yes, the story line got butchered in the editing room when the producers stepped in and the director quit, but I found what was left was still incredibly impressive, the atmosphere unmatched and the ending was simply outstanding. Plus, the extended edition on the Alien Quadrilogy dvd set greatly improves on the story and removes most plot holes.
Haven't watched the Alien vs Predator movies, though I still plan to. And as far as Alone in the Dark is concerned, when Uwe Boll appears on the credits of a movie, you better run, fast!

The opposite thenomenon sticks in my mind, however: I sometimes loathe movies which are regarded as classics. Brazil immediately comes to mind here.

My favorite types are always the ones where a group of people are in a situation where maybe their trapped somewhere and there's something that's killing them one by one until only one, two or sometimes three survive by killing the thing or things and escaping to safety. My all time favorite is the movie Aliens.  Also my #1 favorite movie.) However I don't really like slashers. Way too predictable and the thing that's killing everyone is always the same thing. Some movies I've seen that probably got bad reviews are Doom, Virus, The Cave, Alien 3, Alien vs. Predator, Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
