Just been meaning to say I finished Syberia last Saturday.  Gosh what wonderful graphics I was sort of expecting to be a bit disappointed after people raving about them - you know how you can get your expectations up and the game doesn't always appeal to you in the same way as it does to others.

I loved the game and the atmosphere and the only complaint would be that it was far, far too short.

The puzzles weren't really puzzles and certainly were easy, although at one point I missed something because I went too fast with the cursor and wasn't really watching properly - hence more walking around than I needed to do.

Now I'm just hoping TLJ is just as good, haven't really been able to get the feel of it yet and finding having to listen to all the dialogue a bit much.

In my opinion TLJ is much better... but that's just an opinion. It is however an undeniable fact that TLJ is much, much longer than Syberia.
I forgot my sig.

I have to agree with that but you have to admit that Syberia was (and still is) one of the best adventures ever

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

A lot can happen in one year ..... I want it now. To be honest, I wanted it last year really. I mean I pay for mammoths, not for the troublesome experience of a young woman 'finding herself' and taking a, for her, unexpected path ...

I'm a bit harsh here. I liked Syberia, don't get me wrong (played it in the wrong season, full summer. It's more wintery in character I think). The graphics were great, the story was compelling. I was really getting in to it (and looking forward to the mammoths) and then it ended. I was so dissapointed.

see narji? i told you you'll finish syberia in no time!
and you'll find TLJ is way better, a bit more challenging (not difficult though) and A LOT longer!

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Actually I loved the ending - but of course by the time I played the game I knew there would be a sequel.   Would have been very upset with the ending I think if there wasn't a sequel.

It's summer here in Australia - thought it was good that it was a "cold" game so I didn't feel so hot sitting in front of the computer.

Really [s]hated[/s] disliked this game. There's practically nothing of an adventure game in it, no puzzles, no solidity, square logic, no challenge, no story (good initial idea, but no plot)... Syberia is to a real adventure game like the Survivor show is to the Indiana Jones movies. The only thing about Syberia is that it is graphically beautiful, but just as terrible art doesn't make Leisure Suit Larry (text version) a bad game, brilliant art doesn't make Syberia a good game. Besides art for the sake of art by itself belongs in museums and galleries, and that's where I go to "simply" appreciate art, I certainly don't sit in front of my computer screen to do so (what a depressing thought). An adventure game must be more than that... it must be so much more that Syberia is practically nothing.

On the other hand, The Longest Journey is indeed a masterpiece. While it lacks a bit of challenge, it's compensated by the amazing story, solid and complex characters, good humor, so on... it's imho a MUST have.

Cheers

Deleted UserMy girlfriend and I didn't dislike Syberia, as feel a little bit cheated. There were too many fundamental flaws within the game that spoilt enjoyment at certain times.

I'm a graphics junkie, and appreciate the fact that games can be artistic unlike Philohippus. It's just that in this case the art far outweighs the playbility.

I think the problem is that with so little in the way of good adventures out there we all make do with the merely "OK", and Syberia is just that. Just OK.

Yes Sarah, I'm in chapter 2 in TLJ
just after she comes back from Arcadia) but still feel I haven't really got into it properly yet partly because I just haven't had the time to sit and play it long enough each time - if you know what I mean.  Whereas is Syberia I was just able to keep going longer and it was just like a book I couldn't put down.

You have explained how I feel about Syberia perfectly. I know there will be those who say, here we go again on the Syberia discussion again, beating it to death. However, I don't think this game should be hailed as the coming of Christ just for superb graphics.
