I'm going to start playing Riven (yes, I know I'm waaaay behind on my games!), and I was wondering:

Are there any can't miss things to do or see in the game, that are not required to progress the story, that I should make sure to do or see?

You know optional things that might be off the beaten path. Everyone here seems to know their adventures so well, I thought maybe you could point some things out for me not to miss.

Thanks in advance!!

None in particular. Just some advice. Go slow and enjoy the views. Check out everything. Pay attention to sounds...they may be clues. There are a few Easter eggs in Riven, but to reveal them here may spoil the game for you. Check them out later (Search: Riven Easter eggs).
If you have played Myst, then you pretty much know the plot. If not, go to the Myst web site and read up before playing.

Actually, I just finished playing Myst yesterday (I know, I know). So I'm kind of looking forward to getting into Riven.

Thanks for the advice bistro!

The diff is that you won't be jumping around Ages so much. Everything is pretty much there in Riven. Again, taking your time is key. Enjoy it.

Wait 'til you get to MystIII...

If you ever want to do Myst again...try realMyst---360 degree fluid movement and an additional Age.
