Hello everyone

What is the best adventure game producing company today? I would have to say Telltale Games and I have a feeling a lot of people are with me.

Only a few years ago, the whole genre was in a real slump, and we all would be hysterically enthusiastic about lone gems in the desert such as Syberia or Runaway. Now, there are many good games again, but I think the most entertaining ones are from Telltale.

Really looking forward to the Wallace and Gromit game...

Um, sorry Merete. I don't think it's quite that - sometimes the site is a bit slow in replying, um.. and for me, you have posed a difficult question, actually.

Sam and Max are certainly fun, but I didn't like the direction Telltale took with the two CSI games that they developed.

So I think they are Ok when it comes to light humor, but when it comes to grinding out the kind of dark twisted story that keeps me intrigued...  - they're not so strong there.

There seems to be such a lot of smallish developers around, that have been doing rather good work, and that we might see more good stuff from in future.   I imagine that you will find that people will differ wildly on this topic.

Traveler is, I think, correct that the predominance of small development houses makes a favourite hard to peg---or at least harder than it perhaps once was.

That being said, I have played a couple of games by Frogwares, and while they may not be the best ever, they do have a certain sort of appeal to me for reason I am not entirely sure of.  They're probably the closest I could come to picking a favourite, if only because they stick in my mind while others do not.

Had you asked a couple of years ago I would have answered Detalion effortlessly, but sadly they are no longer a house of "today".

You can't kill someone in a studio.

Deleted UserYes, I know many people who cling to the "old game" formula are not enamoured by Frogwares, but I'll second you on that, JKing. Wether they are the best, might be debatable, but I love their games, and still have to find one that I don't like.

Mind you, I have not played "Around the World in 80 Days" yet, and have heard that it is quite buggy; also I was not too mad about "Mystery of the Mummy", but to me they have greatly improved since then.

By Frogwares I only played "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silver Earring". I found the many puzzles and action elements frustrating and unnecessary, so I haven't played any other games from Frogwares.

They'd have been my favorite too.
I can't really think of any current companies better than Frogwares at the moment. Frogwares keeps trying to improve to make their games more accessible. I don't know of any other company that created an updated version of a 1st person game that allowed a 3rd person option.
If Kheops had stuck to the formula in Return to Mysterious Island, with multiple solutions to puzzles and different ways to combine inventory, I might have considered them.
Telltale is limited to humorous cartoon games -- OK for once in a while, but I don't want to play that type all the time.

I have played at least the first quarter of this game - I didn't find it buggy - just incredibly boring! I liked a lot of the features of the game such as being able to travel around on e.g. a flying carpet & the graphics were nice but the game just didn't grab me one bit - one of the rare games I just had to abandon! I may try again in the future.

Not sure who the best is but I'd say kheops studios are amongst the most prolific, bringing out games quite regularly each year. And they've always made excellent games if sometimes a bit on the short side. Voyage and safecracker remain as two of my favourite games of all time.

I also love the sherlock holmes games by frogwares.
