Um, sorry Merete. I don't think it's quite that - sometimes the site is a bit slow in replying, um.. and for me, you have posed a difficult question, actually.
Sam and Max are certainly fun, but I didn't like the direction Telltale took with the two CSI games that they developed.
So I think they are Ok when it comes to light humor, but when it comes to grinding out the kind of dark twisted story that keeps me intrigued... - they're not so strong there.
There seems to be such a lot of smallish developers around, that have been doing rather good work, and that we might see more good stuff from in future. I imagine that you will find that people will differ wildly on this topic.

That being said, I have played a couple of games by Frogwares, and while they may not be the best ever, they do have a certain sort of appeal to me for reason I am not entirely sure of. They're probably the closest I could come to picking a favourite, if only because they stick in my mind while others do not.
Had you asked a couple of years ago I would have answered Detalion effortlessly, but sadly they are no longer a house of "today".
You can't kill someone in a studio.

Mind you, I have not played "Around the World in 80 Days" yet, and have heard that it is quite buggy; also I was not too mad about "Mystery of the Mummy", but to me they have greatly improved since then.

They'd have been my favorite too. I can't really think of any current companies better than Frogwares at the moment. Frogwares keeps trying to improve to make their games more accessible. I don't know of any other company that created an updated version of a 1st person game that allowed a 3rd person option. If Kheops had stuck to the formula in Return to Mysterious Island, with multiple solutions to puzzles and different ways to combine inventory, I might have considered them. Telltale is limited to humorous cartoon games -- OK for once in a while, but I don't want to play that type all the time.

I have played at least the first quarter of this game - I didn't find it buggy - just incredibly boring! I liked a lot of the features of the game such as being able to travel around on e.g. a flying carpet & the graphics were nice but the game just didn't grab me one bit - one of the rare games I just had to abandon! I may try again in the future.

I also love the sherlock holmes games by frogwares.
