But we can - Vote realistic, I don't know if there is any political party promising nothing but since that's what we're going to get anyway (at best) they'd get my vote.

Exactly! Rage is not a very positive emotion. Better to solve problems calmly and rationally... And if it's something you can't change... why get upset about it? It won't do any good.

Yes I know you wrote it generally but I just want to state that I am a positive person and I rarely get mad .  >

Wrong smiley there

Okay JP and Michal, how about this?

After some time and many horrors three great friends fall in the hands of the Vietcong and are brought to a prison camp as POWs.  They wait in the wet and gore filled pens while other POWs are forced to play Russian roulette against each other.  Above the gunshots, they can hear the incessant cackling of the Vietcong soldiers who are making bets on who will get the bullet.  Eventually, the three friends have to play against eachother; they are the last POWs left.  Would you be able to sit there carefree and not worry while the laughing and smiling fills the room wanting you or your friend to blow a thick hole in their head?

This doesn't go for Vietnam but all war...

Probably not. But I still don't see how being enraged would help there.

Rage is definitely not an emotion you want to indulge in everyday.  It's one of those "flight or fight" emotions, for survival use only. Big abstract issue don't enrage me.  Bush doesn't enrage me. War with a captial W doesn't enrage me. Intimate, up close, one on one violation of human dignity does enrage me. Stooge's scenario would enrage me. Doesn't matter if it would help or not. Logic has no place there. It's cellular. If you have ever experienced it, you'll never forget it. It's really quite amazing actually. The few times I've experienced rage it was like an invisible giant's hand had reached down,  picked me up and shook me. I had about as much chance of controlling it as turning back the tide. You don't reason yourself out of something like that. You just hang on and try to make it out the other side.

Exactly fucking right scout...

Most likely you'll die anyway...let you fightorflight system take over and you could greatly increase your chances or survival but if you're waiting there to die, your body won't do anything else but sit either.  It's all about utilizing the hard wired structure of our body for when the time really comes...When the things people are doing aren't logical and you can't make them become logical, let your body take over and not your reasoning...

OK this is a slightly more extreme situation in which you are hypothetically involved, but I still dont think enraged is the right emotion -
upset and crying, terror maybe, because you're probably going to die,
but there is no use being angry or enraged - whats going to happen is still going to happen!

Tricky topic - but an interesting one! Good call.

I try to avoid getting too involved with things that really make me want to take matters into to my own hands, because that can't ever be a good thing.....

However, some previous comments made me consider and a couple of things start to send me that way -
Injustice, ignorance, self-obsession. Three of my pet hates.

Another thing I really really hate is the British tabloid press and the way they treat people like dirt just for their headlines, often ruining good peoples lives. Only today was I reading about Matthew Kelly - a very popular long-time television personality and actor if you don't know who he is - who was arrested a couple of weeks ago following an accusation of paedophilia. Of course, everybody automatically assumed that he'd abused this kid because the press put the knife in to get a sensational story, and a previously popular guy is turned overnight into a figure of public hate and a depraved inhuman animal etc etc.

Well today the police announced that all charges had been dropped because when they arrested him they did not have a single shred of evidence to back up the accusation . Kelly has been exonorated but at the cost of his reputation, cause stuff like this sticks for good in our society. This really drives me up the wall. What was "MATTHEW KELLY ARRESTED ON PAEDOPHILE CHARGES, HOPE HE BURNS" front page is now a page two column "Matthew Kelly freed, charges dropped (damn)." Our press just has too much power. Even if it's true, shouldn't it always be "innocent till proven...."? Unfortunately a large majority of the population haven't learnt to question everything that they read, as I was fortunately taught, and sadly they have their opinions swayed by morons and parasites on a daily basis.

Mini-rant there, but I'm done. Basically I'd drag all the journalists who have willingly and knowingly wrecked lives into the street and string them up.  >

*ahem*

Peace, peace, love.....

Is d*mn really considered a censorable curse in this day and age?

Don't get me started on censorship, I was trying to promote inner peace again.... you're upsetting my equilibrium.....

JP, upset, crying, and terror are all precursors to the core of the moment...
Do you know what the "fight-or-flight" system is?  You're still telling me that you'd sit there allowing all that you see continue to happen until you are dead?  You wouldn't want to at least try?

This brings a quotation to mind, "Nothing is a worse as the person who did nothing because he could only do so little."  I saw this quotation in the SanDiego Zoo (I forgot the guys name)  If you want, place yourself in another "less hypothetical" situation in which you or your friends or innocent people die like little pesky mosquitos...you'll still sit there?

I gotta code...

I flip into a (temporary) fit of rage when I see or hear about animals getting hurt. I think it's so unfair. They can't defend themselves (if they're not of a predatory kind, that is and even then ...) and probably due to evolution, somewhere along the line we got the right to do with them what we want for whatever reason we want. Now that can't be right.

I think people who hurt an animal (especially domesticated animals) intentionally just for the fun of it, are absolutely out of their minds.

Actually male cows aren't allowed to smoke those 'special' brands, only milk cows (high meat you know).
