Anyone know what happened to this site? http://www.adventure-eu.com/

It's the one DimiDimi...started.  I didn't go there much, but it seems to have disappeared. :-/

I never went there much. The only decent thing was "The Inventory", but then they shut that down.

Didn't he try to move into game development with those episodic games (The Exchange Student)?

Maybe they didn't sell that well.

Hmm, never went there much either in recent years.
I tried it on the Exchange Student Webpage but there is no news since Oct. 2007.
Guess I have to finally log into my Microsoft Messenger soon and find out myself what happened.

Besides a notice: In the Exchange Student review here on Just Adventure is stated that the Inventory was shut down because of lack of interest of the "staff" - this is plainly wrong! I and the other authers were pretty sad when it closed down. Dimitris wanted to make adventure games and had no time to do both and also additionally Adventure Europe.
I was recruited to work on Adventure Europe as well till I recognized how much work it would mean that had nothing to do with adventure games but marketing and similar to get people to go to Adventure Europe and hopefully - and I guess that was the hidden idea - promote The Exchange Student. Because the helpers didn't get any benefits, thats when I decided to quit.

I get a 'forbidden' message like 'you don't have access to this site.' Based on former experience, I'm guessing the site is under maintenance or taken down for a while ?  :-?

The Internet Archive Wayback Machine shows the last www.adventure-eu.com page from January 11 2008.

Has it really been almost a year before anyone noticed it was gone?

If it is that sure says something about the site sadly enough.  It was so rare that I even went there and it seemed too geared in one direction.  No point in bringing up the past. Any AG site (whether good or bad) that closes shop isn't a good thing.

Looks like 2008 was a very bad year for AGs. In addition to not having many memorable games that came out - with the exception of The Lost Crown, IMO... which is based only on games I played last year - we lost The Adventure Lantern, Quandaryland, and apparently Adventure-Europe as well.

The loss of Quandary was the worst. It's been moved over to www.metzomagic.com but I'll miss Gordon and Rosemary's contributions.

We were sad to see Adventure Europe and Quandaryland close down in 2008.

We had a great time at Adventure Europe's Adventure Developers' Online Conference, and the staff we dealt with were helpful and always quick to respond. I never understood why their forums didn't get more traffic. There were plenty of visitors during the conference, but any other time I stopped by their forums it was surprisingly quiet.

Quandaryland, of course, was practically an institution. I think I first stumbled onto it during the '90s and can't even guess how many adventure gamers have benefited from their articles. It was very generous of Steve to archive the content. Lots of classic stuff in there.

Two great sites created and run by some truly dedicated adventure fans.

[ edit: uh....what year is it?

Adventure Europe had mostly the highest-resolution Gray Matter picture galleries on the web, and The Inventory remains a worthwhile achievement, enjoyable on its own terms and with all its idiosyncrasies, and particularly good with the interviews.

Can anyone provide a current link for back issues of The Inventory? I have all the issues on hard disk and also printed out,* but it would be nice for anyone else interested.

* Definitely more enjoyable than staring at a screen for hours on end.

P.S. Incidentally, on one possible reason why the remaining adventure gaming sites seem to have little interest in making downloadable magazines or collections of their articles, see this post from an Adventure Gamers thread from 2003.
