This is the all new thread for new members to introduce themselves! 8-)

Hi all!

My name is Melly and I've been playing adventure games for longer than I care to admit...lol.  I stumbled across this site and have been lurking for some time now.

I'm currently playing Blackwell Unbound and re-playing all my old favs from the King's Quest series.

I should also mention that I'm deaf and have been from birth.  This has presented some challenges as far as gaming goes.  Beyond the usual mandatory auditory clues some games present, I've recently discovered some newer games won't even run without detecting sound hardware.  (I never bother to install something I can't even use!).  Anyway, while I was searching a walkthrough for auditory clues I may have missed in a game, I found JA!  So I guess it all worked out okay!

I've avoided forums in the past because of all the trolls/flaming/general hatred, but I've seen no evidence of that here.

So, that's me in a nutshell.  I look forward to getting to know all you!

Welcome, Melly!
It's always lovely to see new faces here, especially those who have an appreciation for adventures of all types and vintages.

If it's any consolation I couldn't solve an auditory puzzle any more slowly if I were deaf.
Shame about the silly requirement with regards to sound hardware, though: I'm disabled myself, and while I'm lucky in that it doesn't prevent me from making full use of my computer, I've oft had to put up with thoughtless and pointless obstacles of that sort.  You'd think programmers would be a little brighter sometimes and fail gracefully.  Sheesh.

Anyway, again: welcome!  I think I speak for everyone here when I say I hope you stick around.  We can always use more [s]victims[/s] friends!

Deleted UserNo matter which website you visit, you're never going to get away from a weird sense of humor, it seems....   :

Anyway - yes, although we do have quite strong differences of opinion here, most of our members are quite mature, and it doesn't tend do degenerate to the depths that you see on some sites. In fact, we have a generally rather polite bunch here..   (if you can look past the odd sense of humor
 )

Melly, a lot of us who are not even disabled in any way, (unless tone-deafness or colour-blindness counts
) also struggle with some of these weird puzzles that some devs manage to come up with, so never be shy to look for/ask for help here with us!   [smiley=blahblah.gif]

...and welcome to the site!    [smiley=smiley.gif]

I have lost my hat, madam!  It didn't seem right to have the signature without it.

Thanks you for the very sweet and kind offer, Traveler, and thank you, Caroline, for finding my dusty old thing (not to mention the... fascinating alternative), but I am a man of the 21st century.  Hats started going out of style a hundred years ago, and besides something pointy like that is bound to make you some enemies if you're careless how you move your head!

Nonsense! I know for a fact that people in Canada wear hats; warm woolly hats with bobbles on the top and flaps for their ears - or big fluffy ear muffs like woolly headsets.   I've seen pictures.

People here wear hats too - nice wide brimmed creations to shade our faces and keep the sun out of our eyes.  I have several and never go out without one in the warm, sunny months (approx Oct- Apr).

I'm not exactly new, per se, but i never really introduced myself properly...i just sort of barged in and started posting like some sort of barbarous philistine.

Anyway, I'm Aubry and I'm in my early 20's. I started becoming interested in adventure games when my Montessori school had them on the computers. I was about 6 or so, and there was "A Castle Adventure" on the Dos computer, and King's Quest VI and King's Quest I remake on the windows 2.0 computer :-) My grandmother also had on her computer (because my uncle put it on there) "Under a Killing Moon". These experiences as a kid always stuck with me, and it became a thing for my mother and I to play these adventure games together. It's one of the ways we'd spend time with each other.

As i got older and the games got more and more violent, I still had this soft spot for adventures, even though they are not extremely popular anymore. I go about them as if they were a mixture of a good novel and those variety puzzle books you can get from the supermarket. My mom and I still play together sometimes when i'm around :-)

Anyways...I shuffle between Israel and California...my dear friends and beaus (and some family) in one place and most of my family in the other.  I just graduated from UCLA and i am moving to Chicago in 2 months to go to UChicago for grad school studying middle eastern languages and history. I know Hebrew, Persian (farsi), French, and some Swedish and Arabic.

Well, now that i have all the time in the world (at least for the next few months) I figured i'd get myself in a little deeper on the forums i'm involved with and get to know some peeps better.

:-)

well probably...

you have a population of people who actually enjoy using their brains critically rather than mindlessly shooting at things.

my mother btw has a doctorate and is a university professor...<---case in point.

Welcome to the forums Stupot!  You are supposed to give us your age, rank, occupation, and various essentials. Caroline will require information about your personal life (what you collect, what you might be studying, favorite authors, etc.), but don't worry. That's normal!
