I have to admit, for me, 2008 was quite adventureless... I only played one for real and that was Broken Sword 4. But since I've  quite a lot of promising adventures on my shelf that I need to play I want to spend 2009 less time in MMORPGs and more with single player games, especially adventures again.
And besides all the ones I already bought but didn't play, yet there are also some on my "definetely need to buy" list including Jack Keane und especially Perry Rhodan (I read probably a quarter of the many thousand episodes long series for many years till about ten years ago when I still had the time - less internet, less computer games and more reading, then).

Below are only games I've played till I saw the ending. If I'm even one click before the final resolution, it's not included in my 2008 list.

Bone 1 + 2 B

I'm still not certain if I should group these two together, or rate them individually, but I did play them in sequence one after the other, so  [smiley=shrug.gif] . The first game is not without charm, but also has quite a few flaws, the second is significantly improved, bringing the overall score to a solid B. I certainly wish Telltale could finish this series...

Carte Blanche C

Cleopatra: A Queen's Destiny B-

Culpa Innata A

Diamonds in the Rough A-

Dracula Origin B-

Jack Orlando: Director's Cut B-

Leather Goddesses of Phobos

I won't give a score to such an old text adventure, but I liked it. A lot.

Lightbringer B+

Lost Crown, The A-

Moment of Silence, The B+

Mystery of the Mummy, The C+

Next Life (aka Reprobates) B

Nikopol C+

Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy B

Paradise C

Sam and Max Hit The Road (replay) B

Sam and Max Season 2 A++

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened B-

Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin B+

Sherlock Holmes The Case of the Silver Earring C+

Space Quest 1

Space Quest 2

I will refrain from rating the two games above due to their age, but I was not impressed.

Syberia 1 (replay) B+

Syberia 2 B

A very good year, overall  8-).

Perry Rhodan - best adventure of 2008, hands down. epic story, clever writing, sarcastic hero, beautiful graphs.. A
Lost Crown - another great adventure from Boakes. very good story and atmosphere. A-
Edna & Harvey: The Breakout & Tale of a Hero - two funny adventure games from Europe that I really enjoyed. A- both

Sam & Max Season 2 - sometimes funny, sometimes not, very easy and too short. B / B+
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Season 1 - the first and the last one, I hope. no fun, no interest, bad in every aspect. D
Vampyre Story - beautiful and nostalgic, but the weak writing ruined it for me. B-
So Blonde - one word: frustrating. again, ruined be weak writing and design. C+
Murder in the Abbey - surprisingly strong writing, but half of the game was flushed into the toilet, agh. C+
Ankh: Battle of the Gods & Jack Keane - the first was the worst in the series, the second was the best Deck13 came up with. D / B-
Simon the Sorcerer 4 & Everlight - both games are very similar. fantasy adventures with some nice touches. B+ / B
Penumbra: Black Plague & Penumbra: Requiem - enjoyed the sequel, but was surprised how bad was the addon. B / D
Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy & Dracula 3 - the first was tiresome and uninspired, the second was a really good, intelligent horror. C / B+
Dracula: Origin - no effort was put in the story nor in design and atmosphere. boring as hell. C-
Fenimore Fillmore's Revenge - nothing here to talk about. awful. F
Nikopol - interesting premise, but poor, short game. C-
Overclocked - very interesting and gloomy interactive movie. B
Killing Time

I just began playing full games again in September when I bought a decent pc at last. I then went out and bought lots and lots of games but have only got through a few of them so far.

ART OF MURDER - C

I wanted so much to like this game as it was one of the more expensive titles I shelled out for. Sadly though, neither the plotline nor the main character gripped me and I resorted to a walkthrough on a few occasions.

BELIEF AND BETRAYAL - D

The subject of this game had me very excited. It sounded similar to Broken Sword 1 and I love conspiracy theories and religious mysteries. However, the main character just bored me to tears and I found a lot of the gameplay quite tedious and very linear.

ANNACAPRI THE DREAM - A

This was probably my favourite game this year. I loved the photos and got very much into the plot once I realised the dual reality of the story. It was a huge game and I resorted to the help of a walkthrough a few times. I have seen lots of poor reviews for this game but I just can't understand why. I would have given it an A+ were it not for the resolution issue and some of the quite monotone voice work.

BLACK MIRROR - A

This was another game I thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere was amazing and I found the puzzles just right. They made me think but weren't too tough. I particularly enjoyed the long introduction in chapter 1 without puzzles to solve but lots of plot to immerse one in the story before the real challenges. Again, I might have given an A+ if I didn't have to die on occassions to progress.

AURORA - THE SECRET WITHIN - E

This was probably my least favourite game and I couldn't play it through to its conclusion. The premise was very interesting and it looked as if it could have been a decent title but it was let down by an awful translation that was really laughable at times and incomprehensible on occasions. The dialogues were not spoken neither, but one had to read the text which sometimes flashed off before I was able to get through the sentence..

MYST - MASTERPIECE EDITION - A

I started playing this on my old laptop and was thoroughly enjoying it when my machine broke down. I had been to three ages and was in the underground maze in the last age when my machine irrecoverably gave up on me. I decided to buy a decent desktop with good specs but sadly and frustatingly, for some reason, I couldn't get Myst to play. It just crashed at the beginning and even after tweaking I still got nothing more than a blank screen with sound. So I couldn't finish it, but read the final section on the net. In 2009 I am looking forward to playing the other four Myst titles which were bundled together in the 'Collector'e Edition'. Riven, with a small tweak, works fine on my new machine .

ATLANTIS EVOLUTION - C-

Parts of this game were fantastic. The beginning was amazing and truly captivating and the music was wonderful. In fact, it was exactly the type of music I have in my record collection. However the plotline was very weak, bordering on the ridiculous and the action sequences and early eighties arcade games ruined it for me.

EVIL UNDER THE SUN B+

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot in this Agatha Christie mystery and the graphics were lovely. Voicework was strong and puzzles were not too tough. I did keep on getting stuck though and found progress could only be achieved after absolutely every predetermined action was accomplished, no matter how trifling.

In 2009 I am looking forward to playing lots more of the titles I have bought over the past few months (more than 50) and I am currenly playing Beneath a Steel Sky which was given as a bonus game on the Broken Sword trilogy (1-3) disc.

aubstopper, i am amazed! your top and grades are, with a couple of exceptions, almost exactly like what i would have come up with... are you my long lost twin or smth?!

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.
