I once read this thread on a Radiohead forum. Of course, everyone agreed that "Climbing Up The Walls" was the scariest song ever. BS
I really like Thom Yorke and Co. but c'mon that can't be the scariest song. I'd go for early Pink Floyd. Perhaps something from the demented mind of Syd Barret - "Astronomy Domine" could be. Or maybe "Interstellar Overdrive" (do you also get the funny idea that you're floating in space while riding a Cadillac when you listen to this song?). I think I know which song could be - their Ummagumma record is really scary but "The Narrow Way" stands out from the rest. Also, the middle part of "Echoes" (the one with those bird-like noises) was very scary also.
What do you guys and gals think?

I am not scared or afraid of anything that exists on our planet (Earth i mean
).

this means that a simple song isn't able to scare me!

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

No, I don't get that idea... I've never driven a Cadillac and never floated in space
But it sure is a pretty darn weird song.

Depends on whether you mean scary musically or with the lyrics. If lyrics, I'd go for another Pink Floyd magician, Roger Waters. I mean, isn't something like The Final Cut just wonderfully depressing? Dammit, I just gotta go listen to the closing song, Two Suns in the Sunset.

The sun is in the East
Even though the day is done,
Two suns in the sunset
Could be the human race is run...
...
You stretch the frozen moments with your fear
And you never hear their voices
And you never see their faces
You have no recourse to the law any more...

As the windshield melts and my tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend
Finally I'll understand the feelings of the few
Ashes, diamonds, foe and friend
We were all equal in the end

(might not be perfecly accurate, I just wrote that down now while listening to the song)

His solo albums might be even better, namely Amused to Death. Not exactly an optimistic outlook on the human race. Wonderful music, depressing lyrics. Not recommended to people with suicidal tendencies

I forgot my sig.

Jennifer Lopez has some pretty scary songs... at least for me, when i hear those i always cover my ears and desperately look for a sound-proof shelter! :

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

The ten most Scary songs right now:
1   Jennifer Lopez ft. LL Cool J - All i Have
2   50 Cent - In Da Club
3   Ja Rule ft. Ashanti - Mesmerize
4   B2K & P. Diddy - Bump, Bump, Bump
5   Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River
6   Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
7   Christina Aguilera - Beautiful
8   Aaliyah - Miss You
9   Missy Elliott - Gossip Folks
10 Dixie Chicks - Landslide

Happens to be the same as the US-top-10 list ???

After the trauma from hearing this kind of music the only thing that helps is listening to Crade of Filth, Morbid Angel or Mörk Gryning.

Yeah well... I scream in terror when I hear Enrique Iglesias

Good point, Michal. Musically scary or lyrically scary? I guess I was mostly meaning musically since I mentioned "Interstellar Overdrive" (BTW, that's the reason why I left the Drugs thread yesterday, I was floating in space
).
As for lyrically scary, I'd go for either for Joy Division's Ian Curtis (very, very suicidal too) or Tool.

You're breathing so I guess you're still alive
even if signs seem to tell me otherwise.
Won't you come just a bit closer,
close enough so I can smell you.
I need you to feel this.
I need this to make me whole.
There's release in this sodomy.
For I am your witness that
blood and flesh can be trusted.
And only this one holy medium brings me piece of mind.

Got your hands bound, your head down,
your eyes closed.
You look so precious now.

I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this
sh*t blood and cum on my hands.

I've come round full circle.
My lamb and martyr, this will be over soon.
You look so precious.

If that's not scary, I don't know what it is

the whole album "them" by king diamond can be considered lyrically scary - as in horror-scary (awesome cover too!)

i agree with rael about joy division's lyrics being lyricaly scary - as in psychologicaly scary... Directionless so plain to see, a loaded gun won't set you free........ so you say

That's a nice one!

When I was a kid I was pretty scared by "Mother" (Police-Synchronicity): can't really say why, must have been all those yells!
Later in my life I've heard to a lot of very disturbing songs: 2 for all Angel of death (Slayer, with that cd cover that seemed an image of Dante's inferno) and Heartwork (Carcass, with a terrific video featuring a lot of H.R. Giger's weird inventions).

I was listening to the soundtrack to Michael Mann's "Heat" for the first time recently on the underground in London, and I tell you there's a track on that album that made me go cold - it's basically some extremely demented screaming over a creepy, trip-hop style track. It may be fairly tame comparative to some of the death/thrash/homicidalmanicmassacre rock that some of you guys may be into, but it deeply freaked me next to some pretty mellow Brian Eno stuff on the CD.

As for the original post - I think Climbing up the Walls is a great song, and not even slightly scary. No song with that good a bass-line could induce fear.

What is quite frightening is that boy bands can release any old sh*t that they fancy and their hordes of loyal thirteen year olds will put it at Number One. The power of mass culture scares me. Talk about a cultural vacuum. What will the 21st century be remembered for in music......

The cover version.

And singing through your nose a la boybands the wide world over. Sorry "singing".

Tra la laaaaaa.
