Oh well, "Never too late to learn" --- but like many English sayings... the contra, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" ! :

Thank you, Shany, for bringing this to my attention!

I played the first couple of hours of Indigo Prophecy, thought it was going to be brilliant and just out of interest watched the 3 different ending movies on You Tube, I then realised it wasn't worth playng through to reach any of them, I would have been so disappointed if I had...
Yes, I know this is like looking at the last page of a book just after you start reading it, but I thought it would be good to see what I was trying to avoid in the 'bad' endings :-/

| Deleted User | Please excuse my ignorance --- I'm an old fogey after all and not always with it ... especially as far as recent Net "applications".
I thought that You Tube dealt with relatively short snippets (I never access it myself, but often get emails with You Tube attachments).
But Quest Adventures usually take me 2, 3, or 4 dozen hours of concentrated playing.
Do you mean that you can "PLAY" a game for something like that number of hours on You Tube (Not that I can envisage much fun from that) !!!???

I'd also only played about halfway through when my female detective (irritating whimp that she was : ) decided to pack her bags and "go to daddy". So I never felt like battling through all the action sequences again, in case I got thrown out of the game again after all my efforts. Perhaps I'll just end up doing what you did, Steve.
In fact, I think I will.
LadyK, -you are so knowledgable and cool. :-* :-* Why can't more ladies of your generation be like you?

| Deleted User | Lady kestrel, How the heck do they do it ? I'm only talking about Quest-Adventures ! Do the the people who "produce" these things visit all the many locations in the games, conduct all the dialogs, solve all the puzzles (so that the viewer can see how to solve them) --- etc. etc.? Assuming that the answer to the above is +ve, what's the point of that? Who makes the segments and why? I'm approaching my mid 80's... rather than watch that wouldn't I be better off becoming a couch potato and watch non interactive TV which whatever its content is directed and produced for people who want to sit & watch but not DO anything or activate their brains in any way?

Status : Offline | Hmm....I watched a speed run of Riven once. But that's about it.  oesn't really appeal to me, I'm afraid, at least where adventure games are concerned. I could see watching one out of a sense of nostalgia for a classic game. Or perhaps if I were sick of a game and just wanted to see an ending, without any more time wasted, maybe. But that doesn't happen that often. I'd probably go to a walkthrough first.
Of more interest to me are the speed runs over at the Speed Demos Archive. Watching someone tear through an game, particularly an RPG, that took me countless hours to beat is incredible! (And a little depressing, maybe.)

Status : Offline | LenG: Some of them simply play trough the game in the fastest way possible, others take their time to explore the game & explain what they are doing (note tough that i have yet to watch trough an entire AG playtrough, I have only watched the first and sometimes second part, to get a feel for the game, so that i know if it's worth getting or not).
Speed runs on the other hand can be really entertaining to watch. It's always interesting to watch someone plow trough one of your childhood favorites.

I checked out the Speed Demos site Andromus, and tried to play some of the files in VLC but nothing happening.
How on earth does one play those Speed Demos Archive files? I was trying to do the fast (without the bunny mod) Halflife one run.

| Deleted User | I'd like to see one of those playthroughs for my general computer game 'literacy' I'm ONLY interested in "pure" Quest-Adventures (i.e. with little or no 'action'and very little or no 'timed puzzles".
Would someone do me a favour and send me one link to a well known game please ! TIA --- Len.

That one ran fine for me using the MP4 version on the QuickTime player. Between that and Windows Media Player, I've been able to play any file on the site I tried out, so far.

Oh, ok, I'll try one of those then, - thanks Andromus. It's rather a pity for me, as I've come to hate Qtime. Oh well. I'll try Media Player first.
