I'm not sure why I wasn't looking for something like this for all this time, but a buddy sent me the link and I read most of it in one go. I was into CYOA for a short time, then the novelty had worn off pretty soon. This is not CYOA (except one brief experiment), but IF. Well, lately it's more of a console RPG send-up, though.
The home page is set to Problem Sleuth. You should start with Jailbreak, because this is where it all began. JB was a forum project and as the author claims it's 100% user commands. He picked the first thing that was posted, no matter how nonsensical it seemed. And this stuff is surprisingly sensible, if you take that into consideration. This is probably a one-time thing of spantaneous ingenuity. Remember, when we tried something like that here? Perhaps we should try again.
You may skip Bard Quest. The author calls it a failed experiment and I'd have to agree. The CYOA style is not working. And it just stops, unfinished. On the other hand, it is pretty short and you might just read it anyway.
Problem Sleuth is JB maxed out to an epic scope. It starts like JB, using the same running gags and paying homage to JB. By the time you "build a fort out of your desk" things start to spiral out of control. In mostly a good way. Oh whatever, just read it. There is one page later on which sums up the wackiness up to that point, I won't post it, because you should really read the whole thing. By that time we have a battle menu, several copies of characters, dozens of ridiculous items and stat thingies...you know, just like a real RPG.
The author releases several pages almost every day. There is no fixed schedule. He picks a few commands out of user input and his own ideas.
short Elfstone status update: This got me back into IF and I'm playing several right now, again. I still haven't picked up Sam & Max again, back when I left episode 4 of season 1. And nothing else, for that matter. Adventure or otherwise. I'm apparently going old-school now...very likely back to Sam & Max around Christmas.
I played Suveh Nux, which is a brilliant one-room IF with an invented language. Short, of course. Now I play Risorgimento Represso which is fun so far, richly implemented.
I got into online poker, made a little money with no deposit, then made a little more with that. Then lost it experimenting. Found a couple things I'm good at and I'll see if I can make this worthwhile without using my own money.
Oh, and I play around a little with this. I assume you all know about that already. I think these days I'm more for the quick fix than a full adventure game. I tend to leave those unfinished and don't remember where I left off.
