Well Riven is perfect but i am not so sure if you are going to like it now :-/

for its time it was a masterpiece but it is like slideshow (if you understand what i mean) thus i am not soo sure if you are going to like the graphics :-/

i believe that the only solution is to borrow it from a friend of yours, see if you like it and then buy!!

if you want my VERY personal opinion the game is perfect!!!

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

Does it have the 'feel' of Myst? For me that is running around with no idea what to do in a very uninspiring surroundings?

Is there a good story? I mean I can look past dated graphics if the story is allright (I still play FoA so ...). I can get it for EUR/$ 11.95.

Well it kinda 'feels' like Myst but it has A MUCH better story!!!

BTW i forgot to tell you that you might don't like the fact that you walk around all the time without talking to anyone (well sometimes others talk to you)

Agreed. Buggly little bastard, not funny, couldn't get it to work properly, threw it on my ever-growing pile of unfinished games and finally sold it.

Could you enlighten me why you think Riven is that good? I'm in a constant doubt whether I should buy it or not. A lot of ppl on this board speak so highly of it. To be fair I must tell you I hate (as in 'really don't like') Myst. Is it similar?

Weeeelll... yes, I'm afraid it is. Harder puzzles, better graphics, more people, more endings, better storyline... but essentially the same type of game. Don't be swayed by other people's opinion, if you hate a game, chances are that you will hate the sequel even more. I didn't much care for Amerzone, and when I'd played the demo of Syberia I knew that it wasn't my kind of game. Stupid little me went out and bought Syberia anyway.

PS: What is FoA?

Hehe... I know, I know... how's my rating?

B. likes Riven, good, +3
B. hates Amerzone and Syberia, bad girl, -5

(I should probably keep it a secret that I'm in favour of legalisation of soft drugs and that I smoked pot every once in a while when I was younger. I still love the good, strong smell of hash coming from the coffee shops along the canals on a warm summer day.)

I do it all the time. When I read someone likes The Last Express or Bad Mojo, I start reading all their posts... until I discover they don't put on clean socks every day.

Betje is right! Even though, Godfather and I have agreed that Riven is perfect, that's because we (having great insight and wisdom
)) enjoy these types of games. Since you didn't like Myst, you almost definitely won't like Riven.....what a shame!

On another matter: a little factoid: Randy has an article entitled, 'The 10 Best Adventure Games That (Almost) No One Has Ever Played'. Feeble files is one of them! But, it is getting awfully hard to find even on Ebay!

The future ain't what it used to be!

Longest game? Now there's a subjective issue... some people take ages to finish a game while others fly through them breezing away all supposed obstables... but I guess it's that subjectivity towards common references that make this a good question.
With me, the whole process of ranting and shouting out "
.a.m.n this game to the fires of hell, I QUIT" and then passing 1 or 2 weeks grudging and wondering what the solution was before attacking the game once again, assumed it's longest timespan with Riven... counting the time it laid abandoned in a dark corner of my hard-drive, it took me some 5 to 6 months to finally see the grand finale. But hey, once while talking about this game in another forum, one guy came up saying he finished Riven in 4 days.

Anyway, the head post asked to disregard Riven, so, even though I played this next one around the time it came out, leaving me clueless as to how long I'd think it to be if I were to play it today (I was 14 then... 23 today), my pick is King's Quest VI. It was my first adventure game ever (up to that instant my only other experiences with games on a PC were the commander keen series). It was love at first drag-the-log-to-find-a-box-beneath though, and that game lasted for a long long time, not sure how long, but long for sure.

Cheers
