Earlier today I had the sudden urge to bust out Aubrey Hodges' wonderful score for Quest for Glory IV, and I occurred to me I don't know how many others here share my obsession with computer and video game sountracks, be they of adventure games or otherwise.  So, I wonder: what are some of your favourite soundtracks, fine people?

As far as adventure games go I think my favourites would have to be the aforementioned Quest for Glory IV, King's Quest VI, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.  Honourable mentions go to Syberia and The Dig as well.

For other games...  Well, let's just say I'm famous for spontaneously catching a Megaman tune and rocking out, whistling for upwards of an hour.

Well, at the risk of sounding like a broken record (heh), I love the music in Syberia and The Longest Journey. These games seem to be my answer to lots of questions about adventure games.

As a matter of interest, the complete soundtrack for The Longest Journey can be downloaded for free at http://www.longestjourney.com/download/music/

I grabbed it years ago and I never get tired of listening to it. The whole thing lasts over an hour. I think it's simply beautiful.

I think my favourite soundtracks are from the 1st 2 Gabriel Knight Games.

The Gabriel Knight games, no doubt- Robert Holmes is a genius, and his music was one of the reasons for the incredible atmosphere.
Despitate that i think the Tex Murphy games had outstanding soundtracks, my favorite is Overseer, Matt Heidersī score is overwhelming and very touching for sure and iīm incredibly glad he is involved in Three Cards to Midnight as well.

I might have forgotten about Quest for Glory 4 if JKing wouldnīt have mentioned it, but i totally agree, thatīs one hell of a game soundtrack.

The same thing goes for Fahrenheit/ Indigo Prophecy. I mean the guy is part of the David Lynch crew, so i wasnīt suprised , but the way that his classical score contributes to the atmosphere is pure awesomeness.

EDIT: I probably left out quite some other cool stuff, but one thing that i definetely forgot is The Dig!

I listen to quite a bit of game music, and most of my favorite games have soundtracks I've enjoyed, sometimes in part, sometimes in whole.

Grim Fandango probably ranks first as my favorite adventure game sound track taken as a whole. As far as that goes, most LucasArts games have selections that are among my favorites. Along with Grim Fandango, there are the Monkey Island games (especially Monkey Island 3) and The Dig. Maniac Mansion's main theme was fun as well, if not on the same level as the former games I mentioned.

Syberia's music was very memorable as well, very moving.

The Agon games do a great job in using music that fits their settings well. The seond Agon episode in particular has a dulcimer piece I love.

The Neverhood had a soundtrack that was zany, jazzy good fun. I was glad to see an official soundtrack album come out a few years ago.

The new Sam and Max games have soundtracks that remind me somewhat of The Neverhood with their jazz themed goofiness. A lot of fun as well.

All the Myst games have had selections I've enjoyed. Oddly enough perhaps, considering I found the game as a whole a mixed bag, what comes to mind first for me is that wonderful vocal piece from Uru, from that gallery in Kadish Tolesa.

Broken Sword 1 deserves an honorable mention here for its soaring main theme.

But although it's not from an adventure game, the soundtrack I'm listening to the most now, and probably the most played album on my iPod at the moment, is from Morrowind.

Other than the evocative music from Riven, the only soundtrack I liked enough to try and find was the music from Gabriel knight 3. The theme song is my absolute fave.

I'm surprised by the many mentions of The Longest Journey.  For me the soundtrack wasn't particularly memorable, but perhaps I just need to give it another listen.  I am not, however, surprised by the many mentions of Gabriel Knight: Robert Holmes did a splendid job with both games, I completely agree!

Well, I'm all for the Myst tracks, especially Uru and TPOTS.

Also, I fell in love with the Colour of Murder music. Very evocative and wonderful to explore to. It reminds me in a way of Angelo Badalemendi (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, and Julee Cruise productions).  The music cuts just a little deeper than ambient effect, IMO, and is unique.  I wrote to Michael Nyqvist and received a nice reply with link to download the music:

I loved the music in the Gabriel Knight games and the Broken Sword games. I've replayed Broken Sword 1 I don't know how many times. And every time, the music sends shivers down my spine. I also find the music in Dracula 3: Path of the Dragon quite intruiging - it's rather gloomy which fits the atmosphere of the game.

I rarely find the soundtrack of an entire game memorable, but there are many individual pieces of music in various games that are I like a lot  8-).

A not very well known game that definitely deserves a mention is Labyrinth of Time. It has one of the best soundtracks ever, and it wasn't even written specifically for the game, the creators just went to a "music stockhouse" (I am not certain what that is, but I assume it's a place where one can buy the right to use certain pieces of music in a commercial product cheaply) and picked whatever they liked.

Jack Orlando: Director's Cut has an amazing jazz soundtrack written by Harold Faltermeyer. For all the game's faults, every adventure fan should give it a try, even if just to listen to it (and I'm not even a jazz fan).

There is a scene near the beginning of The Lost Eden where you descent to the deep dungeons of the Citadel and there is a very spooky music playing while you go down the steps. Definitely memorable.

I also vividly remember the music playing in Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, when you manage to get to the hold.

Faust: The 7 Games of the Soul made excellent use of existing songs for a soundtrack ("Nature Boy" being my personal favorite among them).

I like the music in Syberia and Return To Mysterious Island.
I also like the music in most of the Nancy Drew games. Particularly The Curse Of Blackmore Manor and Danger On Deception Island.
