IMO, the whole thing's a crock. Ok, ok... so minorities are less likely to get into good jobs because they can't get into the universities because they grow up in a town with a poor primary school. So, why allow colleges to bias? Why don't we attack the root of the problem? The primary schools. Then every student, regardless of race, would be truly on even footing, and there'd be no need for affirmative action. If we allow affirmative action to continue, we'll have minority students getting into a school that they can't handle and doing miserably in it. How, praytell, is this good for them? If I was a student of average calibur, I'd get a heck of a lot more out of college if I went to an average calibur college that is experiecned in teaching students of my level than going to Harvard or Yale, where I'd just get left behind in the dust.
Also, we have worked so freaking hard in this country to give equal treatment to minorities. Why not go the whole way?
I'll step off the soapbox now. I'm sure some of you will want to use it.
