Greetings.

I first played Myst around 1994, and since then I have played nearly 100 other adventure games.  But I am just about ready to quit this genre because of the chronic technical glitches these games contain!

The game that is the current problem is Nancy Drew's Legend of the Crystal Skull.  I loaded it, and started to play, but the text was blocky and there was a box around the cursor.  HerInteractive (maker of the Drew games) knew about this glitch, and their site recommended I update my video card driver...which I did.

Now the game won't load at all.  I can't believe updating a video card driver would make a game that once loaded now unloadable...or maybe I should say "unfindable"...in any case,  I click "play" and nothing happens.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times now and have done all kinds of related uninstall maintenance.

I just played another Drew game...Blue Moon Canyon...on this same computer (admittedly with the old video driver) with no probs.

I contacted HerInteractive and received exactly the response I expected...none.   Nice PR!

Off the top of my head, I can think of two activities I could engage in besides adventure games, neither of which tends to be soiled by glitches:  (1) Read a book; (2) Watch TV.  No wonder this genre is dying.

Thanks for any help!  By the way, I don't think I can roll back my driver because it asks for some disk that the driver was included on...and maybe I could find it, but at about that point, I feel like letting go.

Chuck

P.S.  Whatever happened to beta testing?

Post your PC's specs - including your video card/IGP, driver and DirectX versions.

In most of the cases I've seen the PC didn't meet the games minimum hardware requirements.

What?

Well, the Nancy Drew games I checked out actually would run on any ten years old computer... I believe they are just poorly done, technical wise.
It would indeed help to post the computer specifications, it happens all the time that a driver/hardware setting isn't working with one game or the other, especially when the game publisher didn't check them on all most spread hardware.

DirectX 9 isn't 10 years old yet, nor is XP (both are minimum game requirements)

Until you post you specs everyone would just be guessing.

What?
