Friday: I'm using Opera as my browser.  And yes, strangely, I can see others' scrolling messages when they are in the signature, not when they appear in the body of the post.
 If you have any idea why, please tell me.

That's very unlikely to make any difference whatsoever because the scrolling is done with the 'marquee' HTML tag. Which is a nonstandard IE extension and may not be supported by all browsers, although it works fine in my Mozilla.
