Getting round to playing them all is another matter but except for several of the most recent releases I've played nearly (but not all) AGs released during the last 5 years (at least)!
The most recent one's I've played include: Agon, the Lost Sword of Toledo, ND, The Phantom of Venice, Dracula Origin, Cleopatra, Overclocked, Perry Rhodan, Art of Murder, Belief & Betrayal, Darkness Within & The Lost Crown. I've enjoyed them all but was disappointed with the lack of plot clarification in The Lost Crown. I'm currently playing The Hardy Boys.
I have also got a collection of older games to try & fit in here & there if I can get them to play!

I've recently purchased Discworld Noir and, of course, it won't work with XP and, of course, all of the dozens of "fixes" (including on this site) I've found don't fix a thing--compatability mode makes it worse. It's a Copy Protection issue, as far as I can see. Plus, I can't find my copy of Windows 98 to load on my other 'puter.
...otherwise, life is good.

You own a legal copy, so cracking it ownt be illegal, and it might fix your problem.
At the moment, i'm playing keepsake, before that it was shadow of destiny, and before that syberia 2. I also gave secret of the lost cavern a chance, but i did not enjoy it (it did cost me €1 tough, so I did not waste much money).
I'm a bit disapointed with a lot of the adventure games that i have been playing recently, either the puzzles are too easy (like in syberia), or they dont really seem to fit in (like in keepsake). Dont get me wrong, i like both games, but they are not flawless (If anyone knows of a good game along the line of myst, or schizm, dont be afraide to tell me)

It's a common problem with a lot of older games. Their copy protection is not "new OS" friendly, but there are at least ways to work around it.

I don't agree with the negative reviews about this game, though. I've just finished Dracula Resurrection, and although I agree that the atmosphere was a lot more in keeping with the Dracula mythos in Resurrection, I still enjoyed Origin more. Maybe unfairly because it's more modern, and therefore thechnically (especially graphically) more pleasing? :-[ I thought Dracula Origin had very nice music, as well as nice graphics btw. It was rather heavy on the puzzle side - but that's what adventure gamers want, isn't it?
I enjoyed both Resurrection & Origin as well - each were fairly good games. I’m currently [s]playing[/s] tolerating Dracula 3: Path of the Dragon, but don’t bother, it's just plain bad. Apparently they couldn't come up with a set of good puzzles - so they substituted incredibly long, tedious, ridiculously repetitive, and completely boring ones in their place.
I’m actually considering putting it back in the case and up on the shelf – what a stinker it is…

I've had this huge huge fight with the smuggling division :exclamation of the Customs dept., who had confiscated it along with a few other games (notably Black Dahlia and Necrinomicon amongst them) while it was still en route to me.
The Customs official has finally agreed to release the package to the post office, but I have still to receive notification from them. [smiley=shaking_head.gif] Now you tell me all the trouble and waiting might not have been worth it. Oh, well - I'm still looking forward to receiving those other games..

You say this thread isn't working. Perhaps you should change its name to 'What recently released games have you played?'
|
| 22 OCT 2008 at 9:55am |
| Deleted User | Caroline, unfortunately they seem to have limited the length of the topic header.. so what I've changed it to now, is all that will fit in.
Maybe they limited it because they were getting headings like: "What recently released games that have come out in the past 12 to 16 months have you played- whether you liked them or did not like them, please let us know in this thread, because a lot of us probably (possibly) have not played all of those yet, and as most people's money is short, seeing that prices keep going up, especially with this global economic disaster we are facing, we cannot, (like some of us in the past) all afford to buy every single game that gets released these days, especially as some of them (so I've heard) have come out with crappy rushed production values or are simply just crappy games with stupid nonsensical stories or puzzles that don't make sense at all - just so we can know which games to avoid and which games are worth buying..."
Anyway... even with the header as it now is, it might still not work, Caroline, as nothing prevents people like yourself from coming along and totally hijacking the topic of conversation......

Perhaps if you made an anacronym out of it, you'd end up with something like Superkalifrajilisticexpeeallydoshious, which of course, would fit in. Only problem I could see then would be no one would know what all the letters stood for. [smiley=angel_smiley.gif]
Anyway, don't mind me..... carry on. :-*

Culpa Innata is the only newer PC AG I've bought. Before that it was Scratches and now my backlog list is getting pretty long with a few news ones on the horizon. I've also got a growing list of RPGs, action-adventures, shooters and other games yet to play.
Cheers, Terry

But it ended up being bogged down by the typical awkward writing, bland humor and tepid voice acting of today's comic adventures.

I'm currently playing Sam & Max Season 1 which is very colorful and funny, and The Art of Murder which has very nice graphics and voice acting.

Once you get past the repetitive puzzles, it gets much better. I’m at what I believe must be near the end – so far no vamps like the previous installments, and no Dracula either…
It better be one hell of an exit sequence – or I’m still going to be a little disappointed. :-/
Edit -
It wasn't, but you can make up your own mind - I thought it had potential (and almost made it all the way to enjoyable )but in the end it failed miserably.
Once you finish it I'd be curious to hear your take on it.

Traveler, do you know why they seized your games? What exactly did they think was being smuggled? How did you resolve the issue? There sounds a curious story behind this!
In regards to recent adventures:
I played Dead Reefs recently, and I don't think I've ever played a game with such horrible and buggy controls. I nearly abandoned it a few times due to this, but I felt some kind of odd rage at the fact that I might "let the game beat me" and so I perservered. Disregarding the horrendous control system (what could possibly be wrong with using the standard point and click interface? Were they trying to be different for the sake of being different?) the story was rather interesting and some of the puzzles quite fun. I'm glad I played until the end, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't have nerves of steel (so that you don't break your keyboard) and patience that runs a mile.
I also played Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, which I'm aware was released a few years ago on the PC but only recently on the Wii, which is the version I bought. I'm rather astounded they managed to make such an interesting story so profoundly boring. Apart from some absolutely ridiculous puzzles, it seemed to me to play more like an interactive movie - my character had little affect on the story.
I abandoned the game relatively early, not long after I spent roughly 3 hours wandering around in the dark, not being able to do anything because my character refused to go upstairs in the dark. The ridiculous solution to fix my darkness situation was to:
Spoiler Alertscoop the flour out of a flour sack multiple times so that I could find the batteries hidden in the flour.
I was not impressed.
I'm about to start up some newer games (I mostly replay older games) so I'll keep you guys posted

Well, it was quite a big pack of games sent to me by an overseas family member and a friend who had clubbed together to send me a few games, which came to a total of 8 games. Amongst them is Black Dahlia, which makes up 8 CDs, apparently. So I reckon it must have been the sheer size of the package that drew their attention.
They then wanted invoices to prove that the games were not stolen, which, it being a gift, was rather hard for me to produce. Apparently even if an item is second-hand, they have a problem with it. I don't know if there is perhaps a gamer working at the customs dept? :
@ InlandAZ

Will do, Inland - once I manage to get hold of it. I called again this morning, and apparently my package is still with customs!

Like I mentioned in another thread - I had also played this game, and thought that the overall design of the game structure was not very good. I too, met with frustration and dead-ends. I did enjoy the ending(s) though. Unfortunately I had to make use of a w/thru to get there, due to a ridiculous puzzle or two and a design-flaw dead-end. [smiley=hair_pull.gif]

Sam & Max 2. Best comedy game played this year. Lost Crown. Best game this year.
Nostrodamus. This is a good game in the Keops Studio line. Recommended.
Murder in the Abbey. Liked this, but character movement was very slow on my underpowered computer.
Completed Rhiannon. It's a longish game (30 hours). There are a series of scavenger hunts. Story carries you through the game. There is no conversation. Found it got easier after the first couple of chapters (out of five), basically because I got into the pattern of the game design. Ogam script features. There are a couple of surprises along the way that help to maintain interest. Ghostly happenings are not overdone. Worth playing but not a stellar experience.
Currently into Haunting of Castle Malloy. Seemed disturbingly empty and unreal at first. Got very gestucken. Found a hint (poor observation on my part!) and it's opened up a bit. Lots of puzzles with pieces missing that you need to find. Surprisingly hard puzzles at Senior Level. The Irish get a poor showing. Sheep avoid me. Ogam script features here too.
I generally post reviews in Amazon (both UK and USA) after game completion.
