Eridu, Why not start a thread asking people to contribute which recent games they've played and if they're any good. It would also help considerably if you introduced the question by explaining what sort of games you prefer. That way members won't suggest you play the wrong sort of game.
The members here will welcome the chance to recommend games they've enjoyed. I can't help as I'm replaying old games at the moment.

| Deleted User | Guys, no - I agree with Eridu. This site is pretty focused on older games, and while that is also nice, I think we should split the "What are you playing?" thread just a little by starting a more recent game thread as well.
It won't just be for Eridu's benefit; - I think there's a real need for it.
Problem is, - on this site  where some people are still playing DOS games) games from two years back might still count as "recent games"...

Is there a reason why the reviews couldn't simply be "filtered" or "sorted by" release date?
There are some good, free (open-source) database search apps designed for online catalogs, lists, etc. Perhaps one of them could be adapted to the JA+ site? That way, the user could select from a short list of parameters for searching all reviews and get a streamlined result page for only games released in the last 6, 12, 18, 24... months.
This would also spare the administrators from having to manually update the "most-recent reviews" list on a regular basis. Just give the user the option to sort / filter as they see fit and be done with it.
Cheers, Terry

One is just to list them as they are released with info, and content and qualities
Two is to have same plus reviews and comments by players. It is helpful to have that added content info and feedback, but it woulid be voulentary and therefore would not necessarily cover ALL the games, as not everyone plays all the types of games there are, for instance i wont ever be playing any gory horror titles or speed based ones...but for adventure games i think you can bet someone here will be playing anything that comes out. Just a matter if they will want to post comments. Certainly worth a thread try.

| Deleted User | You see, the problem is that most of us tend to mix old games with new. I do this myself, and as we have seen already with my attempted 'seperate' thread, this is the main factor that will produce problems with the members themselves attempting to post info.
Of course, latest releases are shown with previews/and/or links to reviews on the site's homepage; -I just don't think they keep a big enough list there. As far as I can see, as soon as they come off the homepage, they go straight into the mixed bag of recent, fairly recent and ancient stuff.
So maybe the sorting filter idea like Terry suggested? Most marketplace sites have those these days, they're quite common.
Another gaming website has quite a nice system for official <-> member reviews; each game gets its own review thread as soon as it has been officially reviewed, in it's own board on the member's forum. The specific board is purely for review purposes, and is arranged 0 -Z.

You can check the reviews on Amazon, JA, and other sites. You can look at all the screenshots available and watch the previews, then you download the demo if the developer bothered. After that, the game still might not be for you...but you're closer.
If the Upcoming table on this site can add sorting capability (perhaps also adding an icon link to each game's JA review) that seems to be the quickest fix.
I've never had a big issue with this "lack" of organization, if that's what it is. I enjoy snooping and digging out the facts, truths, demos, and dates, building excitement along the way. Hmm, perhaps that's a game in itself. :

Use Mobygames as their games DB search system is very good. JA+ should have had it's own system in place for this but that's another story.

Er, no - you don't get either groupies or gropies, you only get to stir the pot...
Anyway - no I hear what you say, Halcyon, that is, I suppose how most of us do it - one cannot really visit gaming sites regularly and not know what's new in the cooking, but there are people who get busy with work, etc., and don't have time to check as regularly and spend so much time on searching than some of us do.
What if there are people out there who want to spend their precious spare time playing games rather than searching for them?

..what...- that some people don't have the time (or maybe even a fast internet connection) to search 10 or 20 sites before they are able to make a well-informed decision as to which game they want to purchase next... -is that crazy;
or
is it crazy that you don't get groupies just because you are now a sorcerer's apprentice ? : Sorry, pal - life's tough - you don't even get a cigar for becoming a journeyman... [smiley=shaking_head.gif] ..but I suppose congratulations are in order whenever you move up one - so congratulations on becoming a sorcerer's apprentice! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] -at least that means you can now do more important stuff than intergalactic janitor work! [smiley=laughing.gif]

Yes, now you get to haul buckets of water and maybe... mop up afterwards.
Time to check out the security camera footage on what sorcerer's apprentices get up to....

| Deleted User | [smiley=laughing.gif] Heh heh -yep, we've got that Disney's Fantasia digitally remastered on disc. Apparently the Fantasia show was a big tech show-off back in the day when animation was something new and to be gaped at...... Yes, the poor little apprentice really gets himself into trouble there, doesn't he?
Of course the animation is accompanied by the work: "L'Apprenti Sorcier", by the French composer, Paul Dukas, who had based his symphonic work on a poem (on the same theme as shown by the animation) written by the German poet Goethe.
Please excuse the off-topic conversation [smiley=offtopic.gif]
