Deleted UserWith my newly upgraded system, was finally able to start Silent Hill Homecoming over the weekend. I'm only at the very early stages but can say it looks like it's going to be good. The interface is a little clunky and the Steam version had no manual but these are only minor annoyances. As long as the game gets the hair standing up on the back of my neck, I'll be happy. Happy gaming.

Thanks a lot for all of this! I'm getting more and more excited about the games the more I read about it, and I really hope that it will arrive soon.
Those screenshots really make the latest game look amazing. Those cockpit mods looks like must haves. You really must have put a lot of time into finding out the best way of playing these games.

Oh, and while we are on the topic of spaceship sims, how is Battlecruiser 3000ad going?

*edit* With X-bundle still being about a week away, and Rainbow six vegas 2 turning out to be a 4½h game, I really need something else to play.

This classic will do for now
It is the old game Sacrifice (released in 2000). For such an old game, it looks surprisingly nice, but then again, this was one of those games that could bring even the strongest computers to its knees back when it was first released.

Ooh, Sacrifice!  I really must dig that one up!  I only got it for the first time a few years ago, and was at the time swamped with shiny new RPG's and strategy games, so I only got to play it a tiny bit.

It's so nice and.. weird.   8-)

I have been circling around the X universe for some time now....so i did manage to get a lot of info, BC3000AD has not left Earth orbit yet, i have been busy finishing Anachornox and also deep in Anime research. But hopefully soon.   Sacrifice looks like it will hopefully keep you happy for a bit.

Fnord two more good helps: and some suggestion from the veteran players:

do X3 Reunion first, that way you get the story, even tho it is an older version of the game series and they learned a lot but if you use the Xtended mod it helps update it a lot.

here are two very useful tools:

Save Game Manager and  Plug in Manager:

Just wanted to list the components for my new $800US upgrade. The only items I kept from my existing system were the case, PSU and optical drives. As I'm an ASUS, AMD and NVidia fan, I went with the following:

1. Motherboard: ASUS AMD M4A87TD/USB3
2. CPU:             AMD PhenomII X4 965 3.4Ghz
3. Memory:       Corsair (4x2GB) DDR3 sticks
4. Video card:   EVGA GTX460SE 1GBDDR5
5. Hard Drive:   150GB WD Raptor 10,000RPM
6. Monitor:        ASUS 24" Full 1080P LED UltraSlim
7. OS:              Vista Business 64bit

The OS was an upgrade from WinXP which I already owned and was not included in the price. The motherboard is non SLI as I don't plan to go that route. I got everything from NewEgg and it worked first shot. I'm loving it so far and having no problems. Happy Gaming.

I agree about AMD and Nvida....since i study a range of games from old to new i have to use four different platforms with cards for sound and video that swap for specific things...  but i like your new set up that looks niffy and like you will be very comfy with gaming.  enjoy.

I'll probably play the X-games in order (although I've been warned that the very first game X-Beyond the frontier is rather crude, so if I don't like that, I'll probably skip it), but reunion will be played before terran conflict. Thanks for the X^3 reunion links though. All of this has been saved to my computer, so that I'll know where to look once I get a bit further into the series.

Also, sacrifice has turned out to be a lot easier than I remembered it. In my memory, the game was hard as nails, but currently I'm breezing through the game.

Also, Traveller, if the game complains about insufficient memory when you try to run it, download lpatcher from here
http://aluigi.org/mytoolz.htm#lpatch
and the patch itself from here
http://aluigi.org/search.php?src=sacrifice       (Sacrifice "Insufficient pagefile space" patch 0.1a)
Rightclick->save target as, don't left click on the link, as it will open up what looks like a text file.

Thanks, Fnord.  I'll see how my time goes inbetween Sacrifice and River of Time. Not sure I really currently have time for ROT, since that kind of game is rather time-consuming.

You have rekindled my interest for Sacrifice, I must say.
Sometimes gaming sites make you feel a bit torn with all the temptations, reading about what other ppl are playing...

Thanks and so far no problems. Finally getting to play SH5 after almost two years of not being able to play it on my previous single core system. Happy Gaming.

I'm now diverting myself a little from the typical RPGs.
I'm playing GTA IV, a game I feel familiarized with since I played all the other prequels, including the very first one. As I don't have a PS3 it took me a while to finally try GTA IV, as my last machine did not have the power to sustain the game requirements.
With a brand new laptop though, the story is different..  Although I can't have the graphics at full resolution, the game runs smoothly, with no crashes or anything like that.

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

Masher i had no idea you played SHV...here is my current mod list which contains the best fixes developed by the community over the past year, they released the game with a number of things unfinished due to being rushed by Ubi....so the community has fixed and enhanced a lot....PM me or post if you have questions about any of these..the names should be pretty self explanitory, and they all run well together, installed with JSGME which is a great mod installer and controller,  it works great because you can activate and unactivate each one as you want and eveyone prepares mods for the SH series for it now.

all can be found at the Sub Sim Radio Room Forum in the SH V section or by posting there or on other SH V sites...

Sacrifice is done. The campaign was not incredibly lengthy, but then again, by simply playing through the game once, you will only have seen 1/5 of all the levels.

Next up: X-beyond the frontier.
*edit* They seem to have been using the periodic table to help them with names. Xenon, Boron & Argon both races in X-beyond the frontier & elements.

I dont mind some kinds of being scared but dark and creepy is beyond my limit.

So Fnord, did the Superbox arrive? you should have no problem with Beyond the Frontier in the updated version, we used to have to do these fixes:

We used to try to get the final version: X Beyond The Frontier 1.96 - which not need to be updated.

X-Tension 1.4 - you should use the 2.1 and 2.1a updaters that are available here:
http://www.egosoft.com/download/x_tension/patches_en.php

Other uploads don't seem to have the X-Tension expansion pack so this is the version of X1 that you want.

If you were unable to choose any resolution besides 640x480 when running them in WinXP,then we had to go to the executable files (xdx6.exe and X-TENSION.exe), rightclick, select Properties, click Compatibility tab, and set Compatibility mode to "Windows 98/Windows Me". We then were be able to run at up to 1280x1024 which looks a LOT better.

And we had to not forget to set textures to 32:8:8:8:8 either!

but from what i read on Egosoft forums, that box should have versions that are all updated for you.

Deleted UserI'm halfway through Silent Hill 5 and it's really getting good. I was traversing the 'Hells Decsent' Chapter and just the sound effects had me jumping out of my chair a couple times. I've reached the boss (Scarlet, a large limbering ceramic doll) which is pretty hideous and going to be a tough one to beat. I just love this stuff. Happy Gaming.

Yep, it is all up to date and running smoothly. The biggest issue seem to be to figure out exactly what to do
Also, the encyclopedia is rather odd, I have to say. Never before have I had a book that I have to put together myself (although I know, form looking through my parents bookshelves when I was younger, that they had to do that when they were younger). They claim that it is to make it easy to update, in case future releases updates the universe (so that you can print out further additions to the encyclopedia yourself). And it is very ambitious. Nearly 300 pages, for such a small release as the superbox seem to have been.

Boo.  I've been searching for my Sacrifice disk.
My closet became all messed up a month or two ago when a cockroach flew into it (I detest cockroaches) and I uprooted the shelves searching for the blasted insect.
In a panic, and armed with a swatter and some poison, and wearing plastic gloves, might I add   :-[

After exterminating the unwanted guest, I did manage to re-pack most shelves, but somehow Sacrifice seems to have been...  "sacrificed"?

lol, just try and not to think that when you see a cockroach in the open, there's likely many many more inside your walls and such hiding until the lights are off to raid around your house.

They're not usually in the house, thank heavens, but I sometimes catch one of them raiding the dogs' food at night. (outside)  ...and I refuse to believe that they actually come into the house at night...  [smiley=shudder.gif]   [smiley=zombie.gif]
