I haven't seen any mention here of the new Broken Sword game.  It's a fan made game and it's extremely good.  You can download it at http://www.brokensword25.com/.
The dialogue is in German but there is an option to have English subtitles.  Take a look!

Cool, I knew this had been in the works for awhile, but I hadn't been keeping track of its progress lately. Thanks for the heads-up!

Has anyone had any technical problems with this? It uses too many colors to run under ScummVM so I am waiting to see if there are any bugs or problems.

Downloaded it yesterday, played and played half the night.  Finished this afternoon.   A good 15 ours and FREE.

Loved it.

I don't speak German either, just turn on the English sub-titles and eventually the German will not bother.

I died 3 times at the end before I twigged what I(George) had to do.

That's up to you.
I do not speak German.  It was a little distracting at the beginning but eventually you forgot that, read the English sub titles and  concentrated on the game.

Here's some screenshots I made while playing the game.

Do you really want to wait until it comes out in English?  :

Yes.

The screenshots are indeed nice, but it seems as if it's all familiar locations.  I imagine that's just for Paris, though?  Still, nevertheless an impressive artistic achievement, to produce something nice like that and give it away.

well, considering that i will enjoy the game more if it's in english (unless they use really crappy voice actors) and that there are other adventures to play in the meantime, i believe waiting is not such an issue - just as long as there will be an english version

Learned on the ScummVM forums that they are working on an English voiced version now. A heads up, re the cutscenes, they are 3D not the same 2D as the original Broken Sword I and 2 just an fyi.

Made by a devel team called MindFactory, with some support and permissions from Revolution.  I will wait for the english voiced versoin myself i think.

Thanks Aya re the bug free install and run status.

Deleted UserWhat a great way for me to learn some German!  But, is there a way to get to the 'main' menu, like to save the game?

Better have a fast internet connection: this is a 650mb download.

The main menu is at the top left hand corner with save, load and exit, as well as settings.
I found it less distracting to turn off "voice" in settings and just have to English subtitles, but still have the sound effects and music.

There IS a bug in the Portugal section, but this can be overcome simply by saving frequently.  Seems that when you restart the bug goes away.

I finished the game earlier & the whole game ran perfectly with no problems! (After downloading you should disable all programs running in the background before installing as per normal!)

There are a few familiar locations in it which give you a nice trip down memory lane if you played the 1st two, but there are also quite a few new locations.

For a free game there is a lot of game & I think the makers have done a pretty good job although the game is a lot easier than the earlier ones!

An English-speaking version is rumoured to be coming out next year - by then I will remember it all being spoken in English anyway as I thought the subtitles worked really well!

Another nicety is that you can copy the game to disc, & included in the download is the artwork for the CD/DVD disc & also the box cover.  [smiley=smiley.gif]

As per normal? Never in all my gaming years have I ever had to do that. Perhaps doing it with an intrusive virus-checker or the like might be necessary, but otherwise it shouldn't be necessary.

It helps in some cases and is standard practice for totally smooth install.

It may have become a standard for developer's/publishers to put it in the intructions, but it harkens back to the days of Windows 95/98 when conflicts were far more possible. Under Windows XP and beyond there should be no reason for an install to fail because other programs are running except in the case of some of the 'computer-defense' packages (virus checkers, anti-adware, firewalls). Overall, it is an unnecessary hassle- if the install fails then close other programs and install again, but you'll likely never have to.

I base this on years of installing umpteen programs on umpteen laptops and desktops and the fact that I've never come across anything substantive that gives the basis for having to do this (with the exception above that is).

i've never had an issue installing anything while running other progs... the only issue i may have encountered is overzealous anti-vir/spy progs asking me if i'm really sure i want to do this and that - and that not too often

Indeed, it's just some silly boiler-plate stuff, the original reason for which was probably simply a matter of I/O performance or to avoid pitfalls due to Windows' original co-operative multitasking implementation.  Or possibly earlier version of Windows had trouble with registry locking?  Anyway, these days installers which can have conflicts with running apps will usually prompt you to shut them down explicitly anyway, like closing Opera to install QuickTime (which infuriatingly does not tell you what it will close) or install Flash.

Here's one for your experience, please.  I'm trying to install but it is asking for the next CD, which of course I don't have.  Have I downloaded the wrong file?  I'll check.

later...
I got it to install and I don't know how. I extracted the zip file to a folder.  This didn't work earlier, but all I did differently was not choose to place an icon on the desktop, and now it installed.

maybe the first time you tried to install from within the .zip file? the .bin file included must be in the same folder as the installer (which is probably why it asked you for "the next cd"
... if you double-click the installer within the .zip file the .bin file will not be extracted and the installer will not be able to find it
