Status : Offline | It's been bad timing for me and this game in the past. I've installed this game twice, and started playing it twice, then had to rebuild my PC shortly after. I copied the save files over, but it had been a while between plays so I'd want to start over to refresh my memory on what it's all about. I'm on the 3rd attempt right now...
I just bought a house and am about to move, so I hope the cycle doesn't repeat itself again, because I'm really enjoying it.

| Deleted User | Hey guys! I suppose this should actually go in the Adventure Forum, but the thread is already on the go here, so I'll join you here, if you don't mind. I've been looking forward to playing this game for a long time, and now that I'm finally getting around to it, the free-panning mode made me nauseous on my first try.
I'm pretty used to first-person WSAD type movement, and don't normally get motion-sickness, so I was rather surprised when this happened in an adventure game.
I think there are a few reasons for this. The way the panning movement has been engineered, is actually quite different from the normal forward movement in, say a FPShooter. In Scratches (well, the Director's Cut version, anyway)the panning resembles yourself being attached to a rotating ball inside a huge hollow ball, almost like the movement joystick on a gamepad. This kind of movement is unnatural for humans, and might be part of the reason that I'm getting motion sickness.
The automatic panning when you open a door, might also have something to do with it. I was going to switch to slideshow mode, but I found some advice about preventing the motion-sickness on another forum, and decided to give the free-panning mode another go, this time taking things very slowly; before I give up and switch to slideshow mode.
I've been going for about 20 mins. now, closing my eyes when opening a door, setting camera movement and mouse to slowest, and so far so good. Anyway, XerNosam, when I saw your post here, I thought we might be able to serve as inspiration to one another with our respective Scratches woes.
I really want to finish this game, you know.
Oh, and btw - good luck with your move, Xernosam!

Status : Offline | I played the game until Monday morning (game time) then finally decided to quit. I'm literally too afraid to continue; and just not in the mood for a scare. I even printed out a WT to get me past the spooky bits, but it just doesn't appeal to me to use it. It's kind of a shame, since I bought the original, then the Director's Cut, so now I have both games unplayed/unfinished.

| Deleted User | Oh, no, Colpet! That's a shame! Will it help if I metaphorically speaking went through the spooky bits with you? (You'll have to wait for me to catch up) There were 2 games that I didn't finish because they got too scary/grisly for me: Doom3 and Call of Cthuluark Corners of the Earth.
The first I might still do using a Godmode cheat, the latter, I'm not sure I ever want to try again.

Ok. It'll be better with someone to hold hands with Let me know when you get to Monday AM. Colpet - your'e on! I personally find that doing things "with" someone can help my motivation a lot. I had become very lazy with gym, and had stopped going altogether, when I bumped into an old friend whom I had lost contact with when she started a new job. It turned out she also needed some motivation to get back into the gym, and now I'm starting to get fit again, as we motivate one another by going to gym together.
I suppose that is why dieting clubs and support groups are so popular.
Well, I vote that we start a Scratches support group! [smiley=laughing.gif]

But things are getting organized, so maybe tomorrow or Wednesday.
Keep me posted y'all on your progress... as will I.
Us Scaredy Colpets, er, Cats, will persevere!!!

| Deleted User | Hi, guys, I'm playing again, but I'm stuck! It's Sat afternoon, 6PM. I've done literally every single thing possible (I swear!) The car has died, and Jerry has told me about the safe and the murder. I've read about the murder in the paper. I've clicked over the entire house, I've even been to the greenhouse out on the grounds.
It won't let me call Barbara or Jerry anymore. When I try to write, it says he'd rather explore. When I try to sleep, it says it's still too early. I've been down in the basement, and the fuses are fine, also checked the photo's and Italian letter in the maid's room. I'm sick and tired of roaming through the place, clicking on everything possible!
EDIT: Ok, nevermind, guys -I've made it to Sunday! [smiley=music.gif] [smiley=rockin.gif] [smiley=jumping.gif]

| Deleted User | Ok, now I'm really on a roll with this game. I made it until Monday morning, and I've not been scared so far - except maybe a little with the sound effects. One actually gets more tensed up with anticipation, than anything else, and then nothing much happens. I had really thought very scary stuff was going to happen on the second night, so I must admit it was rather an anticlimax for me.
I'm now trying to figure out what to do with the Spoiler Alerttelephoning the bank monkey-puzzle.
EDIT: Ok, Now I'm getting scared. I'm wandering around outside, after getting the garage open. I've also been out the back to the crypt. I've got shivers going up and down my spine, now - how strange that I'm really getting nervous and shivery only now.... where are you Colpet and Xernosam? [smiley=shudder.gif]
