It was awesome and i had a blast, lots of great people and really interesting adventure games.
In the next days weīll upload gallerys with all the new screenshots that we received at the GC.

My highlight by far was A vampyre story, we were shown some ingame material , a new trailer and got some explanations about the gameplay. Itīs close to beeing released (german date 31.10.08, donīt know the release date outside germany unfortunately). The atmosphere is a complete overkill, the english speech sounded great and really gave Mona and Frodderick lots of Charme, the dialogues were very funny and entertaining, the optic ( big secret
) is stunning, lots of moving elements within the screens, the combination of expressive colors is gorgeous, plus some features of the gameplay we were shown looked really interesting. I already updated our AVS gallery, with new screens, new artworks and new charakter images, hereīs the link:
http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery_game.php?id=233

Despite that i really enjoyed the book of unwritten tales, itīs an adventure with a fantasysetting, that does not only look beautiful, but also the gameplay elements we were shown and some really creative ideas behind the gameplay make this one, one of the potentially biggest adventure hits of the near future fromy my point of view.
(Screenshots will follow)

Then there were the daedalic adventures, these guys are really one of the biggest creative hopes for this genre i have to say, Edna and Harvey: The breakout was a blast and the new games are gonna blow people away as well. A new beginning and The whispered world, both seem to have an enourmous atmosphere and the storys for both of these games have great potential. ( New Screens will follow)
In these 2 cases Iīd be very surprised if these games wouldnīt be on a VERY high level of quality.

Another thing was  the momentum A.S. pressconference where Culpa Innata 2 : Chaos rising was announced (fall 09 ) , the concept sounded very interesting and i think that if they manage to get out more of the potential that the first part didnīt use, this could be a really cool thing (Screens will follow).

There was a LOT more , and Iīm a bit in a hurry (what is probably reflected in my writing),so this was just a tiny  and completely incomplete summary of the GC, but i also donīt want to forget to mention the only downside the GC had to me personally and that was Gray Matter.

It was officially announced to be shown at the GC but it wasnīt.
At our appointment with DTP, there was no word about Gray Matter, so i asked about it and then i was told that the presentation version didnīt make it to the GC on time.
Then i asked if we would see something of Gray Matter in the near future and i was told that we would and that Wizarbox is working on Gray Matter as hard as possible right now.

I donīt know but these official GM statements traditionally donīt seem to lead anywhere, so I donīt believe one official GM statement anymore until i really see something of it.
THis was really a bummer, after one year of non information policy the GC seemed to become the turning point and then they donīt deliver ( ANd if i hadnīt brought up Gray Matter, it wouldnīt have been mentioned with one word).
Whatever the true reasons are, this whole project seems to deal with lots of problems, and I can only hope that in the end it will be released at all, and that it will be a worthy Jane Jensen game.
I just canīt get rid of the feeling  though that all the Jane Jensen fans got slapped right in the face once again at the Games Convention, which really sucks after 9 years without a new (despite all the casual stuff) Jensen adventure.

But anyway: In the end it was awesome at the GC and the very high number of potentially interesting adventure games is really a very good sign for all of us adventure gamers.
Cheers

Thanks so much for your report and impressions of your visit to the GC, Murphy!

I'm so happy with AVS. Watched the new trailer and was simply blown away.
Impressive and delicious (
) new screenshots and conceptual art of AVS too, thanks a LOT for the link! Very much appreciated.

The info on the other games is also great. Any word on the English version of Edna Bricht Aus?

And of course...GM. I can't even begin to express my rage over this. But I don't have any intention of ruining this amazing event with a sad discussion of a horrible publisher.

Again thanks a lot, and continue to enjoy the GC!

Thank you very much for the report!

I'm very glad to hear about the announcement for Culpa Innata 2, I was beginning to worry that the first one didn't sell well enough to justify a sequel.

I have grave reservations about Gray Matter's quality, if and when it is released, but I'll be the first to celebrate if my concerns are proven groundless.

Deleted UserThanks  so much for taking the time to give us here at JA a heads-up, Murphy!

I must admit that the weirdness surrounding the impending possible release of Gray matter puzzles and perplexes me.  If nothing is happening there, surely they would have simply cancelled it and made an announcement to that effect? So obviously they're still planning to complete and release it sometime.  I wonder what the main issues are that they are struggling with?

One of the other titles I'm looking forward to, is the Book of Unwritten Tales.  Sounds great!

Like Nik I'm rather intrigued by the possibilities for a sequel to Culpa Innata.  The game definitely cries out for one, and it's a shame we were all left somewhat hanging.

My mind spins with possible scenarios, now.

No problem. Iīm glad you liked it

I added a gallery with 12 screenshots from the book of unwritten tales, and some character models:
http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery_game.php?id=381

And here are 5 screenshots from a culpa innata2 trailer ,that we were shown at the press conference ( No ingame material) , 2 artworks, plus some character-models ( Phoenix and the second main character).
http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery_game.php?id=408
These images arenīt really telling too much, but itīs a start.

@JKing and Nik:
As far as further infos on Culpa2 go , this might interest you ( taken from the official press release):

Odessa, 2047

In Culpa Innata, gamers first met a young ambitious peace officer, Phoenix Wallis. While investigating the murder of a World Union citizen, Vassily Bogdanov, she not only identified the murderer, but also discovered a strange Virtual Reality (VR) device at the heart of a vast criminal enterprise. One that began in the vast reaches of the Rogue States, reaching deeply into the World Union. At the end of Culpa 1, the success she had always craved was near. But life and events are rarely that simple. Faced with growing disillusions with the World Union, lingering questions about her past, and ultimately her future in this perfect society Phoenix arrives at a decisive point in her life.  What of the mysterious Renovators and other strange events? And then there are the increasing nightmares, clouding her mind with unanswered questions about her past. What does it all mean?

Case closed?  Not for this intrepid young woman.

Culpa Innata 2: Chaos Rising begins with Phoenix's journey to the heart of chaos and resistance, the Rogue States, armed by a deceptively simple mandate. Meet the Russian detective in charge of the case, take custody of the captured murderer and transport him to the World Union to face ultimate justice. But Phoenix is not the same young woman who started this investigation and what began in Adrianopolis follows a wild and unpredictable path to surprising conclusions.

Play as both Anatoly Pavlov, the cynical survivor of societal collapse and the disillusioned yet politically naive Phoenix Wallis. Deeply bound by mysterious events, Anatoly and Phoenix will encounter obstacles far more challenging than ever before, testing their courage, determination and wits as they seek the truth hidden beneath the worlds that they know.

Deleted UserThanks for the Unwritten Tales link, had a look at Whispered World as well. (Luckily I still seem to have a slight command of some basic German learnt at school)
Anyway - the graphics mix (of Whispered World) seems slightly strange, with the amount of depth of the beautifully rendered backgrounds, and then the  flat, comic-booky characters juxtaposed against that rich background canvas, but I think the effect is something that could grow on one.

Besides Dracula 3, Vampyre Story is another vampire game that I'd like to get my hands on.

Btw, I am really also looking forward to Still Life 2 - I don't know if the latter was featured at Leipzig?

I didnīt, i was at your press conference

I was just in a permanent hurry, so i probably left out quite a lot of games in my short report(s), but as an extra info beside your blog, i already uploaded the first 3 official so blonde wii version -screenshots some minutes ago.

Hereīs the link
http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery.php?id=455

Plus something interesting for the Hal Barwood fans out there : tons of new Mata Hari screenshots and artworks:
http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery_game.php?id=323

Even though Mata Hari was presented at the GC, I didnīt see it myself, but all the new material makes the waiting for a new Hal Barwood Adventure even harder, but fortunately it wonīt be that long to wait anymore.

And last but not least, here are some Black Mirror 2 Artworks and concept arts
( Unfortunately there arenīt that many "real" screenshots yet, but i have to say that I really liked what Iīve seen of Black Mirror2 at the GC ( without beeing the biggest fan of the first game).

Thanks Lucien. I completely missed Alter ego at the GC, but the cutscenes in the trailer definately look really cool!
@ TC
Concerning an english version of Edna bricht aus, iīm surely not the right person to answer that, but if enough people from english speaking countries yell out "We want Edna" loud enough for Daedalic to hear, it would surely  not be the worst thing.

And i really hope youīll get a chance to play it, because the game is stunning in each and every way.

@The Traveler

You know itīs funny because the concerns you have about the whispered world, are those I had about Edna before i played it, but it turned out that all my concerns were completely senseless. The graphic style that may seem strange in the beginning, is full of charme and since the whispered world comes from the same company (even though it wasnīt drawn by the same person) i wouldnīt be too concerned about the point that you mentioned.
After seeing it in motion at the GC ,i really have to say that not only the drawn backgrounds are beautiful but the characters really offer a lot of charme.
Despite that the melancholic side of the whispered world blew me away, thereīll definately be a lot of depth added to the game  and the touching soundtrack bits  i heard ,really add a lot to that depth.

Concerning Still Life 2
As far as i know Still Life2 was not at the Games Convention.

The Divinity 2 and Venetica guys kind of hogged the time available (sorry guys, I love your games) so I had to rush a little in my presentation.  I hope it didn't spoil it for you.

No, it didnīt spoil it,
it was wonderful you were there at all, personally i just thought it was a little sad for you, there was so little time for you to talk about your own game, after the looong introduction of the 2 rpg-games ( No offense to Jan Klose and the Divinity maker), but i guess that was just bad luck.

Weīre busy writing our GC-coverage for  adventurecorner.de and of course So Blonde and your infos from the press conference will be included in our GC-coverage.

That's the way of these things, but I'm still really excited over the opportunity of exploring the characters and ideas was glad to be given the opportunity to talk about the project.

And I kind of got my own back.  While I was at the show, I took the opportunity to pitch some ideas for new projects with a number of people and often went over my alotted time due to my enthusiasm.  One meeting went over by ten minutes, which I hope is a good sign.

Some other great news. Gobliiins 4 by Pierre Gilhodes was demonstrated on GC by russian studio Snowball (so it is possible that you've missed it). Snowball is currently involved into the localization process, and the game will be out (worldwide) in February. People from Snowball say that the game is very much alike the first games, with the same atmosphere, humor and crazy puzzles.

That sounds interesting, weīll be watching what youīll come up with in the future.

Concerning the GC, here are some more screenshots:

Memento Mori:
http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery.php?id=417

Memento Mori was shown to us, but I canīt really say too much about it, unless that the graphic effects are pretty nice. Beside that I didnīt really see anything that made the game stand out concerning the heavy concurrence. But thatīs just a rather superficial impression, since I canīt really judge the  game as a whole, weīll see when itīs released.

And then there are 2 screenshots of the new Deck13 ( Ankh, Jack Keane) Adventure "Haunted".
The game was in a very early stage of development so there isnīt really too much  to say about  it, unless that it combines humor with some spooky elements.

http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery.php?id=439

One of my colleagues was at the press conference for the new Deep Silver ( Secret Files Tunguska, Secret Files 2) adventure. From what I heard itīs gonna have some Indiana Jones like adventure-story. There isnīt even a name yet, just 1 artwork and 1 screenshot ( at least thatīs what we received). I think it looks really nice and concerning that the game comes from Deep Silver it probably has quite some potential.

I'm fairly surprised at the lack of information about Secret Files 2, since the playable demo for the German talking version was released a couple of days ago...

I can only judge this for the german market, but over here there is definately no lack of information. All the magazines and internetsites did regular coverage and the game will be released on the 29. th of august ( In germany) , like 1 and a half months ago i received a preview version ( Preview-Gallery: http://www.adventurecorner.de/gallery.php?id=412, so there is definately no lack of information over here.

I wasnīt at our team-appointment with Deep Silver at the GC, but I guess that secret files2 wasnīt too much of an issue at the GC, since itīs as good as released , since  there are even the first reviews out there already and there was so much coverage already.
