Would a used version of Guild Wars work  or is the access code limited to one computer?  If a used version worked would the new owner be stuck with previous owners characters?  I've seen used versions of the game on Amazon and wonder if they work.

Deleted UserThey are not limited to one computer, Kewalaka, but to one username, or account.  I would consider buying an MMORPG secondhand online, reasonably risky, as you don't have a chance to verify if you have been given all the correct details, before you receive the game.

I took over a copy of Guildwars from a friend of mine, (who rather went for a box set with expansions, of the game), and I now have to play using his username.  It still works, so if you are sure that you have all the proper codes and the correct username, it's quite possible to use a copy that you have acquired secondhand.

Fortunately you can delete and re-create characters to your hearts content, so in answer to your second question, -no, you will not be stuck with the previous owner's characters, you can create your own.

Hope that helps.

Prophecies, right now
As soon as  I finish it I'll run out and buy Factions... if I don't get too caught up in PvP! That's what my heart really desires. To have the bestest, baddest PvP character the world has ever seen!

Okay well I'm not quite that extreme about it, but having never really gotten into the PvP aspect of any game before, I'm rather tempted now.

Deleted UserHm. It sounds like a good thing you haven't tried WOW yet, Arcadia! That apparently hooks you even worse than Guildwars.  I never got past the first Guildwars, because my bandwidth is rather expensive, so I try to keep it down to reasonable levels...

I've tried just about every MMORPG except WoW. My boyfriend made me promise not to play it... though he's the one at risk, with his addictive personality
I can barely finish a single player campaign game, let alone spend thousands of hours playing a non-linear game with no end in sight :-|

Let me know if you ever start playing again

I found out from the Guild Wars: Platinum Edition box and from the FAQ at guildwars.com that those people selling used games on Amazon are not supposed to be doing that. And PlayNC will not provide customer support for previously used games.

I not only have Guild Wars but I have four characters in it already, two in post-searing and two in pre. I also just bought Factions and have 1 character in it. I had to upgrade the original game to Game of the Year edition to get the imp and bonus weapons. I have Eye of the North but haven't gotten to where I can play it yet. I bought new from Best Buy and Factions from the Guild Wars in game store.

Speaking of Guild Wars and seeing that there are some experienced players here, can anyone tell me if Guild Wars offers decent solo gameplay? I know that's not what MMORPG's are primarily created for, of course, but sometimes they do well in that department. I'm not a big fan of MMORPG's, as you can tell from my signature, but I was curious about this game as it has free online play. And if it happens to let one solo a decent amount of the game, I'd be tempted to pick it up.

.

Evidently, Guild Wars is very good for solo players.

Here's a nice overview of the game:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59083

And here's a forum thread about how to solo:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32980

For much more info, try Googling "Guild Wars + solo". Apparently, a lot of people like to play it alone.

Cheers, Terry

There is one quest in the beginning which requires that you have another player character partner (but it can be completed in less than a minute). Later quests are easier with partners but you can choose computer controlled henchmen. If you have the Eye of the North expansion or the Nightfall campaign you can gain heroes that are better than henchmen and improve as they gain experience.

Guild Wars can be played solo buts its more difficult, however going solo does reserve all the experience, gold and other loot for you. Heroes and henchmen will take a cut but not as much as other players.

I've been playing GW from beta till now, mostly PVE. And the first year it was quite addictive, now (and the last 2 years) I'm only looking in once in a while and played through the expansions.

With heroes it is pretty easy to play through most of the game alone. Actually there is only one mission in Nightfall, quite before the end, that is impossible to master alone, we even didn't manage with two people. But since everyone has that problem you always find a group for that certain mission (usually you won't make it through with the first few groups, though).
Alas, especially Prophecies has become much to easy with heroes.

My suggestion is to find a nice guild of casual players.

PS: I love this game very much! It's just fantastic!
PPS: Including Guild Wars I also played most other big MMORPGs during the last couple of years. I also still play WoW for a month here and then and I'm going to give Vanguard a 2nd chance these days and also hope Age of Conan will one day be bugfree and full of content since especially AoC finally was a game that promised to be ideal for mature players.

I wonder if anyone managed to kill Rotscale, level 30 bone dragon, and its 4 level 24 rotting dragon guards and various undead underlings (level 10-17). I was smart enough not to try.
