Status : Offline | I've pretty much given up on retail outlets around here (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.). They don't really seem to be interested in selling PC games like they used to. Even the local Wal Mart cut their PC games display in half.
I've been buying all my AGs right here at the JA Store (they have all the latest AGs). The shipping is very fast (usually 3 days in the US) and they are quite reliable. I bought Perry Rhodan a few weeks ago here. This game has been okay so far (I'm stuck in chapter 3) but I'm not sure if it's worth the $34.95 (plus $4.00 shipping) they're asking.
I don't buy download-only games. Never have, never will........Mike

Status : Offline | Thanks, all! Just now I checked Amazon.com and saw 2 starting at $17.99 condition: new; I've placed this in my cart at Amazon but won't actually proceed to check-out until about a week before my birthday. Also, I'd like to know: is there any fighting/self-defense/fast-action sequences that I'll have to do in this game? I hope not as my reflexes are slow, and I'm hearing impaired [70% of my hearing gone, both ears even with hearing aids] (hope I don't need good hearing to win the game)

I can safely say that as far as I remember there aren't any fighting sequences in the demo (don't know about the rest of the game though). In the demo I've played you had to make good use of your mind and logical thinking abilities to "win" the demo. I don'tthink I've come across any fast paced action or timed sequences in the demo either. It's been a while since I played it, so maybe I remember it wrong, but I don't there are any.
As I remember it, you could turn ON subtitles for the game, too.

Status : Offline | Thanks! It looks like this game is for me, then. It's been a good 10 years since they were putting out all kinds of alien kind of computer games (you know, the kind where you talk to aliens and go from planet to planet) and currently, I've made a list of the games that came out 10 yrs ago, and am in the process of getting these. Even the Star Trek games (Star Trek: Legacy) they're putting out lately have fighting in them...that's violence. Today I'm kind of picky on what games I buy as games today have too much fighting in them.

Status : Offline | Have you checked out Mass Effect for the PC? It does have lot of fighting in the game, but you can pause the game at any time and order your team mates around. The game also has subtitles and if you put a lot of points into either charm or intimidate you can avoid some of the combat in the game.
I do think that Perry Rhodan is game for you, too...

Status : Offline | Jenny, I tried several of the download mirrors sites at the link you gave me, and they take up from 3-4 hours to 20 hours just to download the demo. Is there any I can get a faster download? I think I'm going to try demo downloads of these other upcoming/new games such as Overclocked, et al, to see if they'll run on my computers...that way I'll know whether to get them or not. BTW my laptop is down with a virus (trojan horse kind of viruses) so that's why I'm not using it now (I'm waiting for my busy nephew to install a virus scanner into it as well as the desktop)
(edit) I'm back. I've found a 10-second download (it's only about 300-500 KB) of the game. See below. Will this suffice?
GZ Downloads - The Immortals of Terra: A Perry Rhodan Adventure ...-
2nd edit: Right now I'm in the process of downloading the Overclocked English demo and it's gonna take up to 3 hrs. Does this happen to anyone else here at JA? we have Verizon internet service and my PC-savvy nephew told me that verizon is a fast internet, good for downloading stuff.
If the Immortals of Terra and Overclocked demos are 900+ MB and 1.39 GB each, I wonder how big the full games are?
I think I'll sweat out the 3 hrs. it takes to download the PR: Immortals of Terra demo in a couple of hrs.
[edit at 10:27 PM] ok, I've downloaded 2 demos (Overclocked & Perry Rhodan: Immortals of Terra [german demo]; this took me all day today to download Overclocked, and then PR: Immortals of Terra.)

| Deleted User | Just a few more notes on PR to those interested: I just checked CONTROL PANEL and the installed game uses 3.364 GB on the hard drive so it is a rather large game. Although I imagine a lot of work and creativity went into developing this game, it IS definitely a $20 game NOT a $35 game. I see that JA has reduced the price to $19.99 but not available till end of July. For those who use Amazon it is wise to check the items you want to buy in advance if possible since sometimes they flip-flop on the seller and price. AOTM it's $17.99 + $2.95 shipping from J&R Music and Computer. (where I got min) It was available from Amazon directly a few days ago for $19.99 but you'd need to buy something else to meet the 25$ min. for free shipping. I have only completed about half the game so what say may not be totally correct for the whole. I agree that there are no action or stealth sequences. Good. There is a rather difficult puzzle around the middle of the game. There are none of those linear dialog trees commonly found in AGs. All conversations are initiated and sustained by using the inventory which will include physical items as well as photo reps of other characters to discuss. A nice touch.

Status : Offline | Thanks for your info. I ordered mine at Amazon.com from--guess who? J and R music and computer world because of the nice shipping price...it was below $20.00 ($17.99 I think), new, & I ordered it late last night (along with Overclocked from this same seller--again, for the nice shipping price.), and the arrival estimate is July 29-Aug.1.
(edit) it looks like I brought these games during Perry Rhodan week!

I have an Athlon Barton XP 2500+ and an Nvidia GeForce 6600. Windows XP 512MB. The problem is with the 3D characters using pixel shaders and shadows. There are scenes with many characters (like the bar) where the game was very slow, so I had to lower the detail pretty much (even turn off pixel shader). Lucky most of the scenes are simple and I could set the details back. Also Jack Keane moves at a low FPS, but is still acceptable.
I think this kind of new adventure games would enjoy a new GeForce video card better.

I have an NVidia Geforce 3 card in my Dell desktop PC and in my laptop, I have a ATI Radeon X300, 64 MB. Are my video cards below or above these requirements?
