I noticed that today as well via GameSpot. My gut feeling was that it's a shameless attempt to get their site noticed on search engines (and sites that use  Game Rankings)  as this game is probably one of the most googled games out there at the moment. They do have a few (VERY few) AG reviews on that site, but considering just how small Limbo really is in the scheme of things, well, you decide.

I don't know if you can call it shameless on the site or reviewer's part. I mean these crooks are fair game and it was a well written review. A few comments in the review.

"As each test is counted as a level the story is told through episodes and sometimes the game can jump from one level to the next leaving certain aspects of the story untold. It also leaves the game feeling disjointed. It leaves me feeling confused and frustrated. For a game which is so story driven why are they making me work so hard to understand it?"

Well perhaps since these "developers" Stole everything they could from multiple sources you have to ask the question why steal? Was it the cost of the graphics was too prohibitive? Were they not talented enough to create their own? Perhaps that explains the disconnected story they were not very good writers and nobody was careless enough to leave a script laying around. I found this comment especially delicious.

"Overall it seems as if a 15 year old remedial English student tried his hand at writing a Stephen King novel. (So it's like a Dean Koontz story then? - Ed.)"

Perhaps they are a bit harsh but having the game loaded on my pc and experiencing the same as this reviewer when he said, "Many of the character you meet throughout the game range from mildly interesting to irritating." Much of the voice acting was so bad to call it simply irritating would be a kindness. One character voice was so raspy and overdone you could not understand the dialog at all. But perhaps the over the top raspy dialog was intentional. It's a good way to hide voice acting you stole run it through a mixer to disguise the original.

About a third of the way through it I was so irritated with dark dimly lit graphics terrible voices and disconnected plot I purged it from my system and mailed the disk to a gamer thousands of miles away and could not bring myself to charge them.

So perhaps the site is attempting to bring attention to itself by offering this review. Perhaps the reviewer was a bit harsh but for the most part it was spot on. But a few things are noticeable.  The game was garbage and these crooks deserved to get hammered  over it. The reviewer wrote an entertaining review which I mostly agree with.

I don't know about that.  I think that a review should only be a review if you first hand have had the experience with what you are reviewing.  Otherwise, you are commenting on someone else's experience.  I think it is more about ethics and trustworthiness when reviewing material.  If you review something that you have not experienced, then, ethically, you are not representing the material in it's true light.  Then this can become slander or libel.  This holds regardless if the source material is real, imaginary, stolen, horrific,  extraterrestrial, beautiful, uncensored, or smells funny.  You may make a judgment on anything IN the review, but it's not a review until you have something to review, hence re + view = "back or again" + "the act of looking/seeing".

I believe that is one of the only things they did do.   But it would be very interesting if they lifted that as well.

This brings up something.  Can anyone out there who has the game get a video snapshot of the end credits? Now that would be something really interesting to see.

So antler did you have a chance to play it?

There was a video of the ending with the credits, but it's since been edited to cut the credits. Anyway, there are only the names of the three guys with very general roles attributed to each.

Anyway, there are finally some replies!
First, the guy who made the music and is only credited in the manual says that all his music is original. Good for him.

Second, the developers are claiming that it's not their fault but some external unnamed source:
In response to the shocking notification that some alleged unauthorized copyrighted materials submitted by sources external to the development team have been found within the PC game Limbo of the Lost, we (the development team) have given our consent and full cooperation to both publishers who are recalling all units from all territories immediately.

Please be assured that we do not condone in anyway the use of unauthorized copyrighted materials and if we had been made aware earlier, we would of course have ceased development of the product and rectified the issue prior to the publication process.

There was also a link to a 2004 post on Wintermute's forums where Steve Bovis explains how he creates the backgrounds.  [smiley=bullcrap.gif]
