Lady K, thanks for that hint. I went on to another place.

Right now, I cannot figure out how to open the doors/gates in the dome.

Riven however seems a bit more involved with a lot more variety. If anything, the amount of ground to cover is substantially larger and more time consuming. While I have had several breakthroughs with it, I haven't had the same type of breakthrough as I had with Myst where everything fell into place.

That was an example of the genius of the Miller boys et al. With Riven, you know that this is very much a Myst game, but it is such a major step forward in design & challenge. Myst III, Exile continues with a design that seemed to blend elements of both Myst & Riven. Of course, it wasn't a Cyan product, but you almost wouldn't have known it unless you saw the significance of the 'developed by Presto' on the box, though we do know that not only did Presto confer at various points with Rand Miller, but Rand apparently did some work on it also.

Still, IMO, Riven is the 'piece de resistance' of the Myst series. I always flip-flop on whether Myst or Riven were my favorites, but when push comes to shove, Riven was the best.

Eric, I envy you being able to experience Myst & Riven for the first time. They will always have a special place in my gaming heart...obviously.

Bad Lady K. This is a classic: especially requires the spoiler option no matter how teeny-tiny the hint!

I am in the room with the golden bugs, and have looked into each bug, and rotated the room also and took note of the screens. And I went out and in, the revolving room with both kind of doors.
Spoiler AlertI noticed some writing on the wallsscho and the D'ni alphabet (I assume, from when I was in the submarine and visited the school).
I found the other entrance, but I can only look in.
I have not entered the dome room yet.

Thank you again Lady K for the 2nd hint

Argh, don't remind me.  Damned OMNI and their crackerjack broadcasting outfit.  I care not one wit for soccer, but I do care about having two more digital broadcast television channels!
/me mumbles bitterly.

For what it's worth, I agree with Ivinia: join in the fun!  I can't right now, but at least I can enjoy everyone else's experience vicariously.

Just to avoid confusion. Are you refering to the 2nd entrance to get into the room with the bugs or the second entrance to get out of the room with the bugs?

Thanks Ivinia.
I had a good laugh at myself and my lack of clarity. [smiley=doh.gif]
Not that door.
So, which door do I mean?...well, I have to go look. My game is on my other computer. Brb

Sorry!  I'm sitting in the corner now.  Clarinda asked, and since Ivinia was already past that point, I didn't think it would hurt.  I've put it in spoilers, but now you'll have to unquote me.

Ok, so you opened the door with the grating and there is that other door beyond it.

Slight Hint:
Spoiler AlertI haven't opened it either.  However, be sure to play around with turning that room and looking through the peepholes with each turn. You might find something interesting.

Bigger hint:
Spoiler AlertThere is more that one button that will rotate the room and allow you to look through the peephole.

Major hint:
Spoiler AlertThere is another door in that room that can only be seen when the room is rotated in the proper position(s).

Thank you for those creative hints. I did find number 3. Now I am in the
Spoiler Alertrevolving room, trying to get secret door open. Pushing bricks, fiddling with the bugs, etc.

Hint: When the giant squid attacks you when you are in the submarine, use the harpoon to stab it just below it's big eye.

Oh sorry, that was Twenty Leagues Under the Sea.

I gave in and looked at a hints page  :
, because this game was beginning to be not too much fun anymore.

I am going slow with the hints, so the good news is I haven't looked at a walkthrough.

I did go back to Myst and readjusted my contrast/light and colors.  I am going to try to make a wall-paper of one of the screenshots from the floating boat Age. (if possible).

Well I have hit a major snag.  My W98 machine is feeling suicidal and prefers to hang itself on the W98 screen and when it does start up - it's in safe mode and nothing works.    >
 >
  >
  >

And if that wasn't bad enough, the power board under my desk blew yesterday.   >
I am so tired of crawling around on all fours.... looks like you will have finished Riven before I've even got my machine in order.  Probably for the best, I think you're rushing it.

Ivinia will probably have finished the entire Myst series before I get through Riven.

That's doubtful Caroline. I have to divide my time this week between playing and finishing up some renders over here. It's all good though...

*sigh*...... *bigger sigh*...... I've had a terrible day.  My W98 machine won't play... I've bought a new more expensive Belkin power board which has to be returned as the input is too small for the internet wires.... (another 20 minute drive there and back at escalating petrol prices).... *sigh*  .... and I'm sick to death of crawling around on the floor with wires - my knees hate me.  I'm going to concentrate on getting my assignment in on time and leave Riven for next week when all my problems should be solved.

W98 machine is going to the shop to be fiddled with by a pro.   >

..and when will you get it back?  I'm finishing up some stuff over here before I jump back into Riven. I've been thinking about it for most of the week, but priorities say otherwise.

The shop was busy and so was I so the dud machine is still sitting here.  Good news is term has finished so I've got plenty of spare time now....  [smiley=jumping.gif]

... and I have just received a strategy guide for Obsidian that I wish I'd had first time round....

.... so now I'm wondering which game to replay.   Maybe I need to investigate this virtual pc thing?

Got farther in Riven, not too much 'into' it though, maybe it will grow on me. [smiley=shrug.gif].
