The symbolism is great and not over the top. You never feel really confident that there isn't anything wrong with Gregory Peck...
Color: Rope. Apart from the famous 10 minutes-shots of course, I think it's one of James Stewart's finest performances. It takes place in one room but it is yet one of the most dynamic films I've ever seen. Can't get enough of it.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Did any of you see the Alfred Hitchcock series years ago - I don't mean movies, think each one was only about an hour long and their were some really scary ones.

Status : Online | Thanks you guys, I could not remember the name: Spellbound with Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman.
The two others are: Rope which I rented a couple of years ago and think it is outstanding along with Strangers On A Train.

IIRC he had nothing to do with the episodes though - he was only presenting them

Rear Window & Birds are outstanding movies as well.

Status : Offline | Adding another nod for Psycho. Don't think it can be stated enough how unexpectedly terrifying this film must have been when it was first released. We are so used to twists and turns in our films now it's almost second nature - this started that trend!! I don't think i'll be spoiling the film for anyone when i write that having Marion knifed to death in the shower half way through the movie when she has been the focus for the duration was a brilliant and gutting twist ('specially for her! )
What makes this one live on and on
a) Anthony Perkins performance is decades ahead of his time. Compare everyone else doing standard declamatory thriller acting with Perkins twitchy, naturalistic everyman style. Totally modern and endlessly watchable. The final cell scene is unmatchable.
b) Bernard Herrmann's awesome score. This one, like so many of his Hitchcock scores, delivers. I've got a recording of the LA Symphonic doing the Psycho suite from the late 90s, and the shower sequence just turns my stomach it's so effective.
I think this is one of the best ten films ever, so definitely my top Hitchcock. Honorable mentions to Vertigo (Herrmann's best score bar none, IMO), The Birds & Rear Window.
The man was a total genius!!!!
