I have no way of formulating an independent opinion about the events you refer to but don't describe. I'm not that interested either - no offence intended - it's just that I don't know you and I don't live to hear about arguments that have nothing to do with me.
All I can say for sure is that you feel aggrieved and needed to air your sense of injustice. Now that you've got that off your chest I hope you are feeling better and I wish you well and hope you have many pleasant years of internet communication ahead of you.

Status : Offline | It was not the specifics of this particular situation that I meant with a story worth sharing, I meant the comparison between the two similar situations I have been in. I should have stressed more my particular appreciation for when I was treated with understanding and forgiveness. That is what is really worth remembering.
As I said, I am not looking to change the current situation. But if anyone is interested[s] [/s]everyone else please skip this paragraph[s] [/s]I outline the events from my necessarily subjective point of view with quotes and links at http://simosakari.livejournal.com/ (entries of Apr 3, 200. The part of the thread with those posts from me that resulted in the ban can be found at http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21703&page=6. (I am not asking anyone to read these. Given the subject matter, it does not make for particularly pleasant reading. But I guess I should have included the links in the first place.)
No offense taken, Caroline. I feel the same way. I do feel the need to point out, preferably to that person, when someone is being unjust, regardless of the personal cost to me of doing so. In that thread I tried to defend the notion that game developers also deserve to be treated with as much common respect as we would wish to be treated ourselves in our day to day lives. In this case the personal cost to me was banning, a price I do not mind paying for trying to do my part for the health of a community, as a member of that community.
Thank you, Caroline. Your points were well taken. I still feel my initial thought on editorial integrity has relevance beyond my own experience. But since anyone treated unfairly has less to worry about than than the one doing it, I am already moving on with my life. I also wish you only good days and pleasant experiences.

I checked and I can still log in but no longer post or PM. So either the ban is processed in stages or I have simply been gagged.
The expressions "farewell ticket", "so long", and "no longer welcome to post" were used in the notification... Of course merely stripping a user of the ability to post or PM as opposed to an outright ban would have the effect, whether intended or not, of leaving everyone else with the impression that the user in question is choosing to remain silent.
* (In Latin reference to the Adventure Companion motto SCIRE, TACERE.) (And "Senior"? Well, really! I may be almost thirty but...!)
P.S. At times like this it cheers me to recall a scene from Jeeves & Wooster, here quoted from memory:
WOOSTER: (WISTFUL) Oh, life is full of sadness, Jeeves. JEEVES: Yes, Sir.
(commiserating beat)
WOOSTER: Still, there it is. (WALKS AWAY, NOT AT ALL UNHAPPY)

John Alderton and Pauline Collins did a fine series in the 70s called Wodehouse Playhouse. That would be before your time but you may have heard of it if you're into vintage TV.

A big part of the reason I feel bad is no longer being able to convey my regret to the people whose feelings I may have hurt. I would hope the same is true of the others concerned. I am poor at judging how I come across and unfortunately it is as possible for me to go too far as it is for anyone else. Add to this the fact that offense is probably more often taken than it is given, and you have the main reason I mind the ban at this point. It means having to leave these issues unresolved, resulting in unnecessary anxiety for others as well as myself.
It is all very easy to think that banning the person perceived as the troublemaker will make the whole problem go away, but as far as the negative emotions already stirred up, it does leave them unresolved. For all concerned, including the moderator! (They deserve freedom from anxiety as much as anyone else, as long as they live up to the same standards they demand of others... again like anyone else.) There are ways of dealing with these emotions in personal interaction, in positive or even inspiring ways, but this is only possible if we leave room for it to happen. It seems less than constructive to cut communication channels when they are most needed.
(If you think like a hammer, many things start to look like nails. We could think like sticks of glue instead. Preferably, ecologically friendly glue.)
I love parts of the Fry & Laurie series, especially the second and third series/seasons. I and my girlfriend got the DVDs a short while ago though I had already watched and enjoyed its first run on Finnish television, in the early nineties. I think the fourth series got uncomfortably derivative of earlier stories...
I am definitely into some vintage TV, things like The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, The Prisoner, and Robin of Sherwood. I guess I could say the only good TV is dead TV since I watch nothing being made these days! I should also get around to reading more of the Wodehouse originals. The one novel of his that I have was very enjoyable, as refreshing as waking up to morning tea and biscuits in the English countryside on a sunny summer morning.
Thanks for the tip about Wodehouse Playhouse. I notice Play.com have the complete box set of that series. I think I could use more Wodehouse in my life...
