Well i just played it i nearly forgot what time it was , think of this game as a 2d point and click adventure version of penumbra ( VERY CREEPY! ). Even in the menu you are listening to some eeery style of music straight out of the latest horror flick.  The entire game is black and white with bits of selective colouring but don't let this put you off it works fine!.

The animation is crap , its very slow but luckily you can double click out of an area to go to the next screen or look at an item.  The effects in this game are VERY VERY good , with fog rolling across the screen , insects flying about birds crowing. The entire game is basically alive but in black and white. Don't forget the eeery music though it really adds to the creepy factor.

Every new bit of the game im waiting for something to come across me , something from the undead and well at one point i found it. I looked in this room and it was pitch black only to be greeted by dark shadows moving across the back of the room ( gave me goosebumps ). Especially with the change of music.

Thus far 8/10 if you want horror , ghostly music scary moments get this game!

Deleted UserThanks for your observations Pirate Neilsouth. They fit in well with the JA review by Eric. I'm definitely thinking of picking this one up since horror themed games are one of my favorites.

Deleted UserLooks like you are having a good adventure there Pirate! It will be awhile before I give it a go since I still have a long way to go with my current game (The Witcher) and so little game playing time available. I look forward to any final comments you have on the game. Enjoy.

Thanks Pirate! Were there any action, arcade or timed sequences in this game? And I can't really tell from the screen shots, is this a 3rd person point & click?

I don't buy download-only games. Never have, never will........Mike

MY take

I was a bit disappointed at first, but now the story has gotten the best of me. I must say the character animation is terrible (walking, Nanny's dog, the cats) and the voice acting can be horrible at times. The same phrases in some places are also starting to piss me off. WHY CAN'T I CHANGE VOLUME? Ambient noises are too loud in someplaces, can't even hear what Nigel is saying... Also maybe some kind of quick travel via map? I hate walking from the museum to the fens...

But the story is getting really interesting, puzzles are just right (most of them) so i'm happy. But i don't think it's the best adventure game ever...

Eh, i see you're still playing...

I particularly liked the 'Battery 13min' effect. Imagine being in a dark, ghost-haunted room and you've only got 13 minutes left on your battery...

The future ain't what it used to be!

I hate to tell you this, but er, the battery NEVER runs out, bizarrely the amount of time left keeps going up and down while you use the camcorder  :-?

LOST CROWN is outstanding. First of all the graphics are memorable (greyscale with colour splashes). Secondly the characters are human, with recognisable characteristics. The story carries one through the game. Progress is guided so there are not huge areas to search for objects. Yes, it is linear, but gently done.

No game is perfect and LC has a couple of things which could be better. Movement is a bit dodgy, speech cannot be interrupted, there is the odd grammar error in the text. These are minor defects in the overall scheme. Frankly, I forgot about these faults once I'd got into the story and you get into the story very early into the game.

This is my game of the year, so far. It is destined to be tomorrow's classic.

I agree. Which makes me wonder how some reviewers can say you waste a lot of time going from one end of the map to the other in search of things. I never saw any of that while playing. JB did an outstanding job limiting where you could go within an area to avoid these long trips.

I agree again. When I first started the game for the JA review, I figured it was in the B/B- category because of Nigels animations, the spotty voice acting, and because it didn't seem like much was going on. Yet as the game progressed after the first day, things just kept becoming so intriguing as the story unfolds, with so many toys to play with that the early shortcomings became a distant memory and hardly noticeable at that point.

This is my game of the year, so far. It is destined to be tomorrow's classic.

It would seem that many people agree including myself. I'm just surprised there isn't a bunch of threads in the main adventure game discussions area of this forum attesting to that.

What can I say, I've been playing adventure games for two decades now and this is definitely up there with the best (GK, Longest Journey, Grim Fandango..e.t.c.).  It's a fantastic game, simply.  The story, the atmosphere, the puzzles all add up to a great and very entertaining experience.

Beware though that some of those ghost pics and voices are REAL!

I couldn't agree more. I'm surprised there aren't more posts dedicated to it. This game is simply one of the best despite a few technical/production value flaws.
