You may need a firmware upgrade - Just got off the phone with BENQ support. After describing my situation the tech insisted the CD 1 is bad. I'll clarify my original post and see if you don't agree. CD 1 won't read--no Explorer files or CD name. CD 2 reads okay. I have subsequently tested 2 other CD and 2 other DVD games and they read okay. BENQ insisted that the CD 1 of the game was still bad even though another DVD burner on my laptop read and installed the game okay. I looked through BENQ for the DW1655 that I have and for firmware updates and didn't see anything specific except for several software programs and support software for firmware updates--no actual firmware updates. None of this is 100% certain and I was rather taken aback that the tech was so insistant I had no problems with the drive that I failed to confirm with him for certain that there was no firmware update available.
Thank you for the suggestion though. Researching this and the results will probably make it easier to get a replacement CD 1 from The Adventure Company for Destination: Treasure Island. The drive type is a BENQ DVD LS DW1655 and the string you asked for is \574B335730363635383043532030202020202020.
Thanks.

BTW - the firmware number should read something like: BCDC

| Deleted User | This thread caught my eye since I've got the exact same BenQ drive as Evenstar. I have not had any problems thus far (2 years now) and my firmware version is BCDB. I was just at BenQ's support site and did not see any firmware updates available for download. I agree with trying to get a replacement disc and see what happens. Good luck.

The long string I posted is apparently not the version number. I was skipping all the underscores. In fact, just before the string and before a short number of underscores is 'BCGB'. I suspect this is my actual firmware version. Is BCGB a later version or earlier version from BCDC? I can't find any firmware updates for my drive at BENQ site nor was BENQ's support concerned that I needed a firmware update.
BTW, I finished the game on my laptop plugged into my 46" flat screen so none of this really matters at this point...until next time.

BENQ has really good support (I've never had an issue with them) - but their web site is a bit lacking for firmware updates. BCDC was the last official release (so far as I was aware) - however, there does appear to be a later version -
BenQ DW 1655 BCIB
If it's just the one Disc you're having issues I'd probably hold off on flashing the drive. Use it as a last resort if you continue to have issues.
Edit - here's a more comprehensive list of their drivers: The Hardware Authority: BenQ Model: DW1655 (complete listing)
