Status : Offline | A while ago I asked if anyone here had any ideas about how to uncover two Easter Eggs, one in Discworld and one in Discworld II. I never solved those mysteries, but now I've uncovered another mystery in a game arguably even more obscure than these two:
I was browsing through the sound files of Toonstruck using Game Audio Player, uncovering various audio snippets that aren't heard in the game. Some of them are messages resulting from using inventory items on characters that can't possibly occur for one reason or another, while others are small exchanges that were cut from the game (such as Drew asking Flux to play against the arcade cashier).
However, I recently discovered something that made me pretty curious. As those of you who have played the game know, there are only two phone "numbers" you can dial, yet in the Toonstruck sound files, I found various automated phone messages from a number of the game characters, such as Jim the dog, Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun (there's even a low-quality recording of her theme song, which presumably plays in the background of her message), Ms. Fortune and Lugnut. I thought that these messages might be accessible by just dialing random numbers, but that doesn't seem to be working.
Is there any way that they can be accessed, or have they been cut from the game as well? The reason I'm asking is that I've made a little page documenting various sounds and graphics that didn't make it into Sierra's games but did make it into the resource files, and with all the unused material from Toonstruck that I'm digging up, I think I'll have to make a similar page on it. If these phone messages can't be played from inside the game, I'll have to include them.

I enjoyed Toonstruck, except for the rostiorie(sp) stick thing. My Win 95 computer was just fast enough he would spin it too fast. .This was a DOS game as I recall.
(Finally lucked out after quite a few attempts.)
Now you've got my curiousity up about the extra files. Would like to read your comments when you post your report.

The page documenting all this should be finished in a few days (I might as well whip up a page about the undiscovered Discworlf Easter Eggs, as long as I'm at it).
Too bad it isn't this easy to uncover unused art and animations in Toonstruck. *Shrug.*

I love the phone messages, especially Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun's Fun Fone. I know many people hated her character and her lovely loveliness, but she always has me in stitches and I consider myself her "special friend".
Drew's reference to [s]sex and uri.. oops![/s] the gold watering can is my favorite. 8-)
PS: The link to the zanydu clock comment doesn't work.

Seems like the spent several million dollars to produce this game.
I understand it didn't sell well though. Too bad, because a sequel would have been fun.

Hey Akril, have you noticed that your lead programmer is selling copies of the DW games on British ebay? Look at this auction: 220209645963. He promises to reveal the secret of how to unlock the DW2 Easter Egg, IF you buy one of his DW games.
I've sent him an email asking him if he will also reveal the secret of the F-word in DW1. I'll post his reply here.
If he does, I might consider buying one of his games, although I already own DW 1 and 2 in mint condition. Yeah, you can call me crazy, I don't mind. 8-)

Hmm... that's what bothers me. He didn't tell you when you asked, he just dropped hints. He even admits it's virtually *impossible* to discover. After all this time, he should be willing to just TELL us Discworld fans! But no, he's using his knowledge to sell games. : At a very high price too. Thirty-nine British pounds may not sound like much, but eighty American dollars sure does. Not worth it.
So I came to my senses. I'm not going to buy anything from him. I reckon some of those buyers will spill the beans. I know I would.
