after reading the sokal interview the line "One thing is sure, there won’t be a Syberia III" almost stoped my heart. i felt a bit funny in my stomach- in a bad way.

and i know its obvious. stories have to end at some point. but i wish they didnt. What characters will never leave your heart? (yeh, well cheesy i know- its the only way i can describe it).

i swear, out of all the media i have ever consumed im certan the adventure genre is the only one that a character in fiction feels like a friend. so much more then films or novels, and i read and watch films quite a lot- (only when out of reach of adventre games
)but none can create that "journey" feel. we are amoung the luckiest people alive to enjoy this beautiful form of story telling- and to think the previous 16 years of my 18 year life were without it. i didnt realise i was this dependant on stories.

what characters cant you let go off? i wont bore your any further with mine!
Its boring, there isn't any action at all. You walk around picking up things and using them with other items. You walk around and use the item on something. Walking around and talking to people is really lame, what about some shooting or something~APuddleduck&&

Deleted UserYes, RIP all of you wonderful adventure game characters out there.

As someone said about Larry. He finally got laid. To bad it was off. :'(

Well-written book characters can be hard to let go of. Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo leaving Middle Earth behind at the Grey Havens in LOTR - Return of the King was a very emotional chapter to read. I daresay there will be more than one tear shed in cinemas next Christmas when it's pictured on film.

I recently watched Braveheart again on TV. The end of that movie is very emotional too.

I remember everyone crying in Titanic when Leo died. Personally I didn't find that particular part of the movie touched me the most. It was watching the captain go down with the ship and that old couple hugging each other in bed as the water poured in that I found to be the most beautiful and tragic part.

Back to adventure games, Manny's departure in Grim Fandango was quite emotional. In a bitter-sweet way. But not much compared to my other examples I guess...

I'd undergo a huge pain if GK4 isn't released....
It seems I can't accept the fact that GK saga has, sooner or later, to end...

and that I won't see Gabriel in my monitor...)

And yes, Petter, Manny's departure... :'(

TLJ for sure and not an adventure game but just finished Unreal II and the ending made me want him to go on and be taken along with him for another fantastic adventure and was sad for him and what had happened in the closing events.

GK3 made me sad and a bit ticked because it ended (not the end game play) with so many things left up in the air and I want another one to see how things turn out or continue on in this great adventure.

My best "virtual" friends while gaming were Tex Murphy, Gabriel Knight and Grace.  These were characters that I thought about and missed long after the games were over.
I think I was most touched emotionally by the character in Sanitarium.
And, I always love strong female protagonist like April Ryan and Kate Walker.

psybafire - although Sokal said there wouldn't be a Syberia III, he didn't say that there wouldn't be another Kate Walker adventure!

I miss Manny and Glottis too.  Also, what is going on with Gabriel and Grace?  Has Gabriel come to his senses, searched for and found Grace?  Mosely grew on me too.

By the end of the adventures I was fond of April Ryan and Kate Walker.  Both matured and I would like to see them again (can't wait for Syberia II)

Still adventuring after all these years!

Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor...

... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary...

Friday the 14th is so very, very correct.  Glottis is probably the greatest character the adventure game has every produced.  I was actually replaying Grim Fandango a few months back and my roommate got so into it just by watching that he demanded I not play it unless he was around.  What a great, great game.

I've just spent a wonderful six weeks playing Grim Fandango - never had the chance before. So as far as I'm concerned, it's got to be Manny & Glottis.

I feel just the opposite. I'm much more apt to get attached to a character in a novel - maybe because the novel allows you to see into the character's thoughts.

With games I'm much more apt to get attached to the gameworld - like the Amerzone or Arcadia or Riven.

There are characters I miss though - Manny and Tex, Guybrush and Mephisto...
