Status : Offline | I'm done with Layton, and have started to look for a cheap second hand DS for myself. It is by the way incredible what some people consider "minor defects". Here are the ones I came across: Lower screen does not work Upper screen does not work DS game slot does not work (can in other words only play GBA games, but I already own a GBA) Has issues recharging the batteries/will only last for 30min One button does not work (does not specify which one).
I also found a wii that can't read game discs (under the DS-console category)

Status : Offline | Are DS games expensive in general, like Xbox and PS3 games? I might be tempted to look for one myself, if they aren't... it really seems as if there's a lot of AG's availabale for the DS, eh?
Can one save your game, generally, -does it have a reasonable memory card?

Well.
Not if you have a flash cart.
But I think the regular game price is around 20 euros.
However, it's a GREAT console for emulating old systems - Sega Genesis, SNES, Gameboy Color, even DOS and there are plenty of useful homebrew programs

A brand new 3DS game costs as much as a brand new PC game here (in other words a good 15€ less than a PS3 or 360 game). I don't know much more about the console, as this was the first game that I played through.

Here's some Nintendo facts:
1) My Nintendo DS has been trouble-free and i bought it 5 years ago. My Dsi XL and 3DS are trouble-free too.
2) I buy Nintendo DS adventure games on the average $19.95 US - which is 60% cheaper than an Xbox or PS3 typical release.
3) Every DS game I've bought has ran fine - never a problem with compatibility.

Status : Offline | Thanks. The DS doesn't sound like a bad deal. The only problem seems the lack of saving, tho you say one can save some games - this is generally a problem with consoles anyway, though.

You mean the autosave? I played quite a few that have autosave, but don't let you save on your own.

DS games are to be taken seriously. I was surprised that most adventures took me 15-20 hours to finish - that's a lot! Especially Layton and Hotel Dusk series.

D: I'm terribly slow, then... I have around 17 hours in each of them. I did everything but Weekly Puzles, mind you x)

Oh, and I thought DS was all Marios, Kongs and boring tetris makeovers.... Nothing wrong with Mario (although my 2d platformer of choice is Metroid)

Good discovery. Did you start with the first one, Remedy? I'll never get that image of the guy with all the piercings out of my head.

I started with Blue Madonna so I think I'll work my way backwards. The guy with the piercings was in that one too, as the cleaner. I thought he was hilarious! Is he in all of them?

If, as you say, he appears in Blue Madonna I’ll have to presume that he has been an interesting character (among others) in all of the games in the series from the beginning.

Rather simple and short, but with a really interesting premise and appealing protagonists that makes me wish the games had been much larger, instead 2-3 hours each. There are a number of unanswered questions at the end of the series, as well as a lot of room for more sequels, so here's hoping Dave Gilbert and the folks at Wadjet Eye pick up this project again sometime.

It does make the game a bit too easy if you make use of the hints, but I just pretend there isn't a hint function.
I've started thinking we should start a thread for hybrid games that adventure gamers might enjoy, here in the AG forum.

Well, if anyone knows of more games similar to this one, please let us know!
