Status : Offline | Just finished Culpa Innata and was left very underwhelmed. First off the navigation system was appalling. I dreaded any exploration bits as the arrows kept sending me back on myself. After a while it really grated. Continuity in conversation was also very annoying, specially when it came to reporting to Chief Morrsen- the most obtuse character possible btw when it came to issuing warrants.
The story started off really promisingly until the end when it unravelled fast. Spoiler AlertWhat was the point of Mata Hari? And the Pierre Deville misdirection was annoying. There were also so many unanswered questions that weren't even hinted at for a sequel- the hackers, butterflies, chaos, renovators etc. What was going on there? There was a hint that Phoenix was questioning the Union and that disappeared out of nowhere.
All in all could have been great but in the end just too frustrating.
I'm not sure what to play next. Maybe Jack Keane... any good?
Currently playing: Dragon Age Origins, Dishonored, The Witcher, Fallout 3, Deponia

Just started Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst. I hear a lot more about the sequel than this game, but this game is pretty good by HOG standards. Better puzzling, reasonable difficultly in finding hidden objects, fairly polished all around.

cute casual ADVENTURE game by bigfish, not one of those hidden object games. Beautiful atmosphere, nice graphics, let's say B+ because overall it's still just a casual game

Still, if it wasn't so short, and didn't have a clue system that gives the puzzle solutions away if you ask for them, there's not really much difference in this game's structure, and that of Myst, if you think about it carefully.
Oh, btw, I've just a few days ago finished the abovementioned game's sequel: Dark Flight. Probably even closer to a true-blue adventure game, aside from the fact that it was still quite short. Very enjoyable, I especially enjoyed all the play on symbolism, but I was rather disappointed with the blunt ending. A bit more fanfare regarding events surrounding the ending of the game would have been in order, I think.

| Deleted User | I was wondering if anyone knew if or when the final installment in the Drawn series would be arriving. I couldn't find any info at Big Fish or the official site.
I recently purchased all of the Carol Reed games and have started playing Remedy. I figure I'll plan on one per month (or one per week) depending on my reactions. Nice to find some games that I can still play on my old HP notebook. 8-)

However, the graphics were beautiful, the game was pretty funny, and it was long. I would love to see it made into a movie - the story, locations and characters are just perfect for it.

I've also been working on Drawn: The Painted Tower. Wonderful sense of style in the design of the game, though like most casual games it's too easy. There's too much hand holding as you play, even if one doesn't use hints.

I think you'll find that the sequels to both those games are an improvement. The Ravenhearst one has more of a natural flow to it, while Drawn Dark Flight has rather more complex puzzles - just be sure to choose the harder difficulty. Like I mentioned elsewhere, I found the ending a bit anti-climactic, but nevertheless still a worthwhile game to play.

(For those who don't know it, this should link to part 1.)
Thus far, we have a somewhat dystopian future setting, featuring a highly-connected populace, addiction to the virtual world, genetic engineering (including at least one rather unpleasant use of it), and at some shadowy individuals (including a "mind-jacker", if I recall correctly)...
MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
*ahem*
Sorry.

Status : Offline | I just finished Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper and I really enjoyed it. It brings a new take on the jack the ripper story, while offering you the change to be really investigating the crimes. Deduction boards, maps, corpse analysis, all this contributes to immersion, making you a part of the story. Also, the cinematics and the Whitechapel surroundings are really well done. The scenes in Whitechapel really gave me the chills sometimes, and it does give you a taste of what poverty was like in 19th century London. I've been in Whitechapel two weeks ago, doing one of the Jack the Ripper Tours and many of those dark alleys replenished with brick houses that you see in the game are still there. I recommend this game to anyone who likes good old investigations, with an accurate story and great contextualization and environments.
Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)
Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

Azada 2 was a big dissapointment compared to the original But the others are great
Now i'm playing The Secret Legacy: A Kate Brooks Adventure, which seems to be another dissapointment. The game feels rushed and unpolished, some Hidden object have akward hot spots :-/

The game crashed on me near the end of the game Spoiler Alert(Right after I obtained the red jewels for the Griffin's room) and wiped out my save. So I found myself rushing through the game again trying to get back to where I had been as quickly as possible. It didn't take all that long actually. I didn't time it exactly, but it was definitely under two hours from start to finish.
Anyway, notwithstanding that crash, it was a very pleasant little game. Looking forward to trying the sequel soon!

Just let me know if you still want those Gray Matter saves, ok? Shouldn't be a problem. I wonder what happened to Dona, btw.

Status : Online | Yes, I've been wanting to pick up the two most recent Sherlock Holmes games, but I keep putting it off. One reason is the introduction of occult whatnot in a detective game. Personal thing. I'm just a little tired of it. I don't mind if that's what the game is about, but if it's Sherlock Holmes, I'd rather a great whodunit adventure.
I recently finished a recent beta build of the new game from Wadjet Eye called Gemini Rue, and I have to say that I'm really impressed. Great story and lengthy adventure, with fun but not overly difficult puzzles. Just a real blast to play. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Blade Runner type stories and retro style games.
ATM I'm playing through Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within. When it first came out back in the 90s my computer wouldn't run it, and I just somehow missed ever picking it up (I know, shame on me). I'm about half way through and loving it. Those FMV games were awesome when they were done right.

I assume then that you played SH: Awakened and not liked it? It's one of my biggest favorites of all time, btw. But tastes differ, of course. I think you'll find that the last 2 games are different in tone again. SH vs Arsene Lupin is a lot more lighthearted, though very well done, and with hard enough puzzles to satisfy. If you had ever followed the Arsene Lupin stories by Maurice Leblanc you would have an especial appreciation for the game. Nothing occult in it that I can remember.
SH vs Jack TR is a very dark game, but with no suggestion of the occult in it. You simply investigate a straightforward set of murders. Actually, although Awakened was based to some extent on Lovecraftian tradition, it didn't necessarily involve a 'belief' in the occult, since you're just investigating a cult, not actually, er.. 'participating' in their beliefs. It does have it's creepy moments, though!

Status : Online | Finished "Puzzle Agent" a week ago. It has a charming atmosphere, great and unique visuals (though the fuzzy closeups are weird), some interesting puzzles, interesting locations and characters and decent voice acting.
On the other hand it's very short (of course, I cheated on those puzzles I didn't like or were hard). Some puzzles were way too easy. Others were hard and some unfair because the explanation for them was unclear. A few puzzle types repeated way too much, while others didn't even make an appearance - word puzzles, chess puzzles, etc. I felt that the story and characters weren't fleshed out enough. You learn some very general things about everyone, but that's it.
Despite this, I'd like a sequel. They did some things right, and I think a sequel which improves on the weak points could be great. However, seeing how they are literally giving this game away every chance they get, I don't think a sequel will happen.

There are comments about Gray Matter being too easy on another thread- surely that would have been the issue with JK? I mean it's fun and charming, with great voice acting, but those puzzles are a complete joke!
