So far I think it’s a great game. The musical score works well in the background and matter of fact I have music volume set at max with voice and sfx backed off. No complaints with the voices either.  I’d much rather be on a mission with Boston Low than with Perry Rhodan.

I would agree that I found the beginning parts of the game to be very easy and admittedly I was starting to become concerned. Difficulty does seem to increase gradually though. I have reached the point where Boston and Maggie reunite and by now the inventory is much more substantial with game and puzzle difficulty up a few notches and reasonable for my expectations.

Anyone else that missed the bus the first time and want to play along?   :

If you're prepared to be patient, I'm almost finished with Syberia, and had Black Mirror on my list as well.

Regarding Syberia: well, I'm busy struggling with a certain miracle cocktail I need for Helena's voice, I think.

About the 'slowness' of the game - to me that is not really the result of Kate's slow movement (as was mentioned in another thread) .  One can have her run after all, and she doesn't seem to run -that- slowly; also, one can skip dialogues and cutscenes, but I'm finding the graphics and the atmosphere sufficient to keep me interested.

Not playing BM2.  I have to talk myself into playing a point and click.  Not a fan.  But I did enjoy BM1.

Oh, I started playing Dark Fall Lost Souls.  Saw my first ghost. Not much tension in the game so far.

I didn't actually miss the bus, I guess the bus ran me over.
(technical difficulties with BM years ago shut me down)

Yes, personally I too would like to give BM another chance and then move on to play BM2.  OK, well that was my plan. The stumbling block is that I placed an order for the original game back on May 9 but it has not been delivered. Guess it is time to knock some heads and see what the problem is.. . Should this be resolved I'll be firing up BM soon after I finish playing 'The Dig".

The Black Mirror sounds like a fine idea. I briefly tried it last year, so I know it work, but otherwise it's just sitting in my closet. I'd be happy to join you and Shez, Traveller.

Well, in that case, it would be nice to do a group "play-along" thread like we did last year with Dracula 3 on this site, and the similar threads you find on ather AG sites.
We kind of chat as we go along, and cover our spoilers with spoiler brackets.  I really enjoyed doing this previously with one or 2 other games played in a group.

Since I still have other things to keep me busy, I can wait for you guys, but hoping it won't be much longer than a 10-day wait. Of course, one doesn't have to be perfectly synchronized for this, since different people game at a different pace, anyway.

I spent some time on Slip Space last night. I got through the first puzzle and am looking forward to more. I really like the look of the game , it reminds me of Chaos a Fantasy Adventure.

To get version 1.0 up and running under Vista I ended up using the English err patch.  I expect to be starting it first thing next week.

Oh good!  Sheherazade sounded pretty much at the end of Syberia, so I'll start a thread for it some time over the weekend, and we can all start playing in the next few days or so.

I got the Adventure Company release of  Black Mirror some time ago as a birthday gift from a friend. I went to install it today and as soon as I saw the StarForce logo screen asking me to restart my computer quit the installer ran a StarForce removal utility and manually checked over my device manager and registry to make sure that all traces of starforce were gone.

I as well as acquaintances of mine have personally experienced USB port and CD/DVD burner faliures due to StarForce and as I work from home and rely on my burners to deliver presentations/reports/ and audio/video data to clients I can not risk a failure of these devices. In short I will not touch StarForce, not even with a 10 foot pole.

I have read over the forum posts on BM and SF and have found that a crack is reccomended for those wishing to avoid StarForce issues, I not only wish to avoid issues but wish to avoid having any trace of the vile starforce on my system.

I've heard nothing but good things about BM and would love to play it, I would even be willing to go so far as to do a manual install if such is necessary, but if starforce drivers are automaticaly installed by the game and I can not avoid them I'm afraid I will have to find the game a new home.

Any suggestions?

Hi, the trick is to not run the game after installing it. That's when Starforce is installed.

What you should do is install the game (make a full install), remove the disc from the CD/DVD drive once it's done installing and put it away. Download the No CD cracks (there's two .rar files for The Black Mirror), place them in The Black Mirror install directory and extract them there (click yes when it asks if you want to overwrite the files).

You should be good to go. Check your device manager and registry just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately with some older games cut before Starforce was revealed as the threat that it is, ie brute force and massive ignorance approach to DRM, some drivers are installed BEFORE you run the game..and hide very well in your system. I lost my system to this from an attempt to run Brothers in Arms which is Starforced. I was very careful yet i still lost first my DVD drives and then the entire system.   I would reccomend you NEVER play ANY game protected with Starforce, sad to say. You will most likely find small drivers hidden in many places, there is a utility that removes some but you will have to dig in your registry for others. Good luck. And hopefuly forewarned is forearmed.

The only good result of this was a considerable strengthening of "users rights" in that Game developers and publishers  now pay attention somwhat when millions of us object LOUDLY when our computers are destroyed by their DRM.  Somewhat.

"
o-it-yourself StarForce Removal

Even if you uninstall a StarForce-dependent game, the StarForce device
driver itself stays on your system. Here's a handy three-step guide to
removing all traces of the StarForce software (special thanks to the astute
folks at the glop.org forums for documenting this procedure).

Remove the device drivers. Select the System icon in your Windows Control
Panel. Click the Device Manager button in the hardware tab and then select
"Show Hidden Devices" from the View menu. Now check the Non-Plug and Play
Drivers device tree, and you should find a few StarForce entries. Uninstall
these and reboot your PC.

Delete the system files. Browse to your C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder
and look for a trio of files called sfdrv01.sys, sfhlp02.sys, and
sfsync02.sys (the actual numbers on the files may be different for you).
Delete 'em.

Clean your registry. While this isn't a very difficult step, it does involve
tinkering with your Windows registry-so be careful here, as damaging your
registry could cause serious system problems. Now that you've been properly
warned, type "regedit" into the Run dialog box from your start menu. Once
the Registry Editor opens, select the Find option from the Edit menu. Now
search your registry for all instances of "sfdrv," "sfhlp," and "sfsync,"
deleting the offending registry keys as they turn up. Once that's done,
close the Registry Editor and reboot your PC-which should now be StarForce
free."

Starforce Removal Tool:

http://onlinesecurity-on.com/downloads/sfdrvrem.zip

this is a Starforce created driver removal utility but they make it vey hard to find the link on the page that they post it on and you only find it after they try to push a bunch of fluff that there is no damage caused by their system.

As with any and all shared informaton about such things we are individually responsible for what we do or dont do and this is NOT professional advice or a guarantee of anything. Just a fellow game player sharing experince and hope.

I recently finished Azada. An interesting assortment of puzzles, not too hard overall, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I'm getting a burning desire to play Dreamfall again. Why?  I don't know!  But I love games set in a realistic future, and this is the only good one I have (apart from BladeRunner, which begins and ends in Pixelated City).

I started Dreamfall about four or five times and never really got anywhere for various reasons, first of all I couldn't manoevre Zoe around Casablanca until somebody gave me the tip for holding the W key down and using the mouse to move the character. There was the 'combat' system that I was hopeless at but somebody told me it doesn't really matter? I also couldn't get past the first puzzle involving the security lock on her friends apartment despite apparently having done everything correctly according to various walkthroughs.  Then I read that the ending doesn't really tie anything up which was the final straw and I haven't even looked at the box for about five years..However many people seem to regard it as a classic so I might dig it out again and have another go!

Steve i wil happily help you with the lock...and re her movment, change both X and Y axis in the camera section for some reason FunCom made them both backwards once that is set right she is much more fun to move...

and if your computer can do it, you can set the graphics really high and get a most beautiful game.

It is a wonderful one, the quirks are bearable and worth the effort to get past...  and the combat is not too much of an issue... it is just a luscious and fun game with a beautiful story and fun characters.  and more to come, when they get their current MMORPG done.

I loved Dreamfall when I played it on my old laptop (XP). I replayed TLJ recently and was keen to follow on with Dreamfall but it refused to install on my newer Vista-running laptop.
In fact it caused my system to bug and nearly crash so I regretfully gave up.

I found the practice fighting almost harder than when you have to fight a villain, because you don't need tactics, just quick hits.  But yeah, I could live without the fighting and sneaking, but they are far from difficult.  Read a walkthrough to get through it.

Maum there is a fix i believe for Dreamfall on Vista, i will talk to the people at Funcom and find out for you, and back soon, hopefully we can get you back to see Zoe

and ys I agree H, the sneaking in the crypt is one of the tougher parts of the game...and in the science labs, but they were trying to cover several genres with this game and did indeed, create a remarkable and beautiful result none the less.
