Status : Offline | I just finished Sherlock Holmes Mystery of the mummy. The game had it's fare amount of flaws which really prevented it from being anything special. The pixel hunting was also incredibly annoying, and at times I could wander around aimlessly because I missed a hook or something similar in the roof. The logical puzzles on the other hand were good, and you can feel that if the developers were more experienced, this game could have been great. I'm glad that they did not give up after this game, or else we might not have had The awakened. As luck might have it, the next part in the series fell trough my mailbox mere moments ago. I'll probably play that next.

Once you have followed MKB's link, (that you have to click on); on the page it takes you to, look right at the bottom of the page, and click on the blue arrow in the red box that says "download" at the bottom of the page. That is the saved game for this part of the game, that you need.

The quiz at the end of each day might annoy some, but I find it to be a really good idea, as it forces you to think and draw some conclusions. It also helps to make sure that you and the game is at the same page, so that the game does not race ahead with it's story, leaving the player behind. While there is a bit of tedious pixel hunting, it's not nearly as bad as mystery of the mummy. Hopefully i'll get vs Arsen Lupin (nemesis) & vs jack the ripper soon, but sadly there seem to be some problems for the place that I ordered the games from, and they have not recieved any new stock of these games for a while. They did assure me that it's only a temporary problem, and I can always cancel any order that I have placed (but as it's about 10€ cheaper than the 2nd cheapest place for arsen lupin, and almost 15€ cheaper for jack the ripper, I think i'd be better of waiting).

Done with Case of the silver earring.

Glad to see you are enjoying the Sherlock Holmes games, Fnord! I liked them all, but found they definitely increased in quality toward the later releases. I didn't like the Sherlock character of the Mummy game, and also found the story weak. I found Silver Earring much more enjoyable; but my all-time fave is still The Awakened. 8-) The latter two in the series ( Arsene Lupin/Nemesis and JTR) were still good games, but I personally found a platau in the quality from Awakened onwards.

There are instructions on the GOG site how to play this game without interlacing and I tried that, but the game looked to shiny and blocky to me that way so I reinstalled the interlaced version and it looked much better in my opinion.
I got thru 3 chapters yesterday and I'm on Chapter 5 at the lodge. What a fun game! This is one of those games that keeps me playing. Others, unfortunately, for some reason I have difficulty in keeping at them. So I will enjoy this one to the end and then try to get back into something else.

While it was not a horrible game, there are so many other great AGs out there that playing games of that quality feels a bit pointless. Case of the silver earring did feel like a Sherlock Holmes case (although it lacks some of Holmes eccentricity that can be found in the books), and the Awakened had a nice mix of fictional works in it.
I wonder why Frogwares decided to port mystery of the mummy and not case of the silver earring to DS & Wii, seeing how it's generally regarded as the weakest entry in the series. The fixed camera angles would probably also have made the DS port work better.
Now i'm pondering if I should replay the awakened while waiting for Nemesis & JTR to show up.

I preferred it without the interlacing, but about the rest, I agree with you. Very enjoyable game.
..except if you're playing it for the first time and have to figure out the partSpoiler Alert about the cuckoo-clock....

When I first played GK2, the cuckoo clock did give me the heebe jeebes. This time, however, I remembered and had no difficulty.

After that I played Blackwell Legacy. This was a game begging for more. The first three quarters were excellent with fabulous voice work from the actress that played Rosangela; certainly one of the best voices I have encountered. The latter part of the game petered out and I was surprised by how short it was.
Next up was Blackwell Unbound. I couldn't get into this one (I wasn't as keen on the character of Lauren as I was Rosangela) and used a walkthrough to finish it off, again being surprised by the short length - although it's still longer than the pathetically short Static Investigator Training I had finished a couple of weeks ago.
Now I am onto GOG downloads and have just started Phantasmagoria. I've only been playing for half an hour, but this looks superb. I've already downloaded Phantasmagoria 2 and the two Gabriel Knight games, along with Egypt 2 and 3 from Big Fish - plenty to keep me busy for a while.

I quite like the deduction and investigation system. I'm quite interested in Jack the Ripper though and know a lot about the murders already so I do feel like I'm cheating a bit.

I'm now playing Art of Murder: Cards of Destiny.

When finished I've got Dark Fall Lost Souls waiting and I'm really looking forward to it!

Status : Online | I finished Phantasmagoria. I thought it started well enough and had some great moments, such as the portrayal of the deaths of the wives and the music was suitably fitting, but I really didn't like the last chapter, which was little more than an arcade sequence really, and was highly frustrating as I must have died at least 50 times. I can see why these types of games didn't take off for too long. Big big big thanks to GOG for making this available.
I need a break from Phantasmagoria so will play Phantasmagoria 2 later. Now it's back to Blackwell and I've started the Blackwell Convergence. Hopefully I'll like it more than Blackwell Unbound, although sadly, Rosangela is not voiced by the same excellent actress as in the Blackwell Legacy.

I guess those games I own and haven't played yet will have to wait while I play this game...again! [smiley=doh.gif]

Anyway, recently finished Dracula 1 Resurrection which was O.K except that it was very dark in places making it difficult to find hotspots, now on Dracula 2 The Last Sanctuary but unfortunately. having to keep on downloading saves because of game freezes in places so goodness knows whether I'll ever bother to finish this one!
