Thanks for the links Jenny, they look helpful. Appreciate it. Heck, sometimes getting these older games to run successfully on our modern PC's is just part of the 'adventure.'

That "installer patch" that Jenny had linked to, looks like the patch I had used, Camaroboy. Good luck!

finished Three Cards to Midnight recently...
I'm planning on replaying Longest Journey...but with my friend. She has never played an adventure game before and i think it's the perfect game to introduce her into the genre.
Game i'm most looking forward to now is Culpa Innata II...which apparently is coming this fall!!

| Deleted User | Ugh. Guess I won’t be playing Black Dahlia as soon as I had predicted…. Several days ago I ordered it from one of the vendors on Amazon Marketplace. Note: In the past I’ve made similar purchases from other sellers offering their wares with flawless transactions. The order arrived today and upon opening the shipping box I was quite impressed observing the amount of care taken in preparing the item for shipment. The oversized game box and internal cardboard inserts looked as though they had never been crushed. Everything I expected appeared to be present; the heavy fold-out disc holder, a manual that looked as though it had never been used, even included was the ‘Interplay Productions Reference and Troubleshooting Guide’ and the product registration card. : The game discs appeared remarkably well preserved with only a few slight blemishes and some superficial smudges that were easily removed. Rather than shipping the discs in the holder, they had been placed in individual paper sleeves. Perhaps, I thought, to keep them from sliding around during transit and handling. So what’s wrong with this picture? Oh, yeah, right. There were seven discs. >

You need not fear, if the seller does not have the 8th disk and will not give a full refund just file a claim with Amazon and you WILL get all your money back or the seller will not be able to sell there again. Amazon will refund your money if they do not comply. I know as I had a buyer break a vintage disk and I was given the ultimatum to refund or bye bye. Amazon says they hold the sellers to as high a standard as they themselves have. They don't realize that when you deal with rare games (antiques if you will) you do not have stocked shelves full of these game and can just send another game out like they would. They have also will soon change their rules and a seller will not get paid for an item until AFTER you have shipped it. So if the buyer cancels the order after or cancel their Credit Card payment you are screwed especially if you deal with rare and hard to find games. So it still is a great place to buy games but needless to say I don't sell much there anymore.

| Deleted User | Thanks GreyFuss. It's possible that the seller may have misplaced the missing disc (disc #2) but probably not very likely. I'm not really worried as I'm sure the seller will make proper restitution. (I've made the appropriate e-mail response and I do have the seller's name and address) It's just that I thought I had found a reasonably good deal on this one and that I'd gotten all that I wanted but as these things go I was more emotionally disappointed.

Status : Offline | I recently started in on Riddle of the Sphinx, which I discovered at a second-hand-goods store. So far so good - there's quite a bit of exposition thus far, both spoken and written, it seems, and one or two slightly tedious elements (a certain remote-control shaft ascension comes to mind), but I'm nevertheless enjoying it, and, once I figured out what was intended, rather enjoyed the first serious puzzle that I tackled. The story being revealed is also - nascent though it is at this early point - somewhat interesting, and shows promising potential. ^_^

Nah, best to stay inside (with the AC on if necessary) and wait it out untill it comes your way. If you’re a fan of story driven games and inventory related puzzles (that’s me) then you’re definitely the intended audience for this one. If I recall, there was only one mechanical type puzzle. I’d have to say that the story itself is the best feature of the game. The thing is unfortunately, that for the most part the actual progression of game play itself didn’t seem very inspiring, or for that matter just plain too easy. And yes, you do get a rather bizarre yet acceptable conclusion. I suppose it’s too early for a spoiler but I wonder if I should have seen that coming. On the plus side, overall the graphics seem nicely done and indeed there are some nice visuals of the various locales the two characters visit through the course of the investigation. Anyhow I’d suggest perusing the review over at Adventure Gamers
http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,1044/
since in my opinion they gave it a fair shake. (3.5/5) There’s another at Gamespot (no link provided intentionally) which I think is just crap but I guess that’s the norm. Would have liked it even more if I'd waited for a price drop.

Edit: Sadly the image shown of the monastery on the hill looks peaceful. I should have hit print screen when it exploded in fire.

I think I have come to the realization that I am no longer a fan of third person adventures, at least not of the ones that have come out in the last few years and I have Still Life 2 waiting on my desk. : Viva La first person.....

I'm playing the game, started last weekend, lost interest and put it down (I'll pick it up again tomorrow).
Your description sounds more like the Scorpio Ritual - which I thought was a good game (but too darn short, and awfully easy). It did fit the ticket though; all I wanted was an enjoyable little weekend game.

| Deleted User | Memento Mori is significantly longer than Scorpio Ritual. Not sure if it's the best way to put this into perspective but the Gameboomers walkthrough for SR is fourteen pages vs. thirty-two for MM.

(My copy of the first Darkfall seems to have gotten lost one of the times I moved, and I hear the things added to Lights Out are good fun. )
I'm also hoping to play The Lost Crown soon.

| Deleted User | Well, I'll be honest here. The frequent crashing in Black Dahlia eventually wore me down. It would be so bad, sometimes, that I would crash every single time after an FMV sequence, having to replay one of them (The planet hopping and the area you reach after hopping from planet to planet) about four times before I could manage to make a save and progress a bit.
I also seem to be a bit stuck in the sewers part, so I've decided to give Black Dahlia a bit of a rest.
My brother from Scotland has been visiting, saw him last night, and he had a cool little present for me. I had let the word out that I'm looking for Memento Mori, amongst a few other games, and he got it for me! I'll be installing it soon, and let's see how it goes...

As for me, I'm currently playing The Lost Crown, and rather enjoying it - voice acting aside, admittedly.
Depending on how this game goes, I may well end up buying the sequel (I'm already planning on getting Dark Fall 3).
